Hmmm...you sound as if we aren't already involved in 2 wars. And the possibility of being wrong exists on both sides. My take on the N Korea situation; since the end of WWII we've played unsuccessfully at regime change. Too many past administrations have played softball with N Korea. I still don't believe they are as big a threat as you might. Kim has no choice other than bravado lest he looks bad to his people. Remember, when dealing with N Korea you aren't dealing with a government or a population that has any clue how the rest of the world thinks and acts. And, China doesn't want this crazy fuck to have that much power. I look for them to get more involved. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

He may not be perceived as a threat to you for any one of a number of reasons, your sex and skin color come to mind, however, that is pretty much the definition of old white man privilege. Can you see where he may be legitimately perceived as a threat by people who aren't you? Also, since when does being a perceived threat equate with evil? That doesn't logically follow at all. Some of the most evil people who ever lived on the planet where not perceived threats until it was revealed they were amazingly evil; John Wayne Gacy, Dillion Roof, Tim McVey. The list goes on and on. What the hell are you going on about? Yes he could, but you have to dismiss many things for him to be a legitimate threat. Two other branches of government he needs to maneuver through. The people you use as examples of evil were anonymous until they were discovered. Are you wringing your hands worrying about people on which you have no information? Good luck sleeping at night. Old white man privilege? I'm assuming you mean I've achieved things in my life solely based on my race, and you'd be somewhat correct however the opportunities afforded me could have been had by most anyone. Opportunity comes disguised as hard work. Most people don't recognize it until it has passed them by. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

The US system is now so fucked up there is no way but to move to a single payer. It's a love triangle between hospitals, insurers, and attorneys. All 3 can get fucked now. Medicare works for those over 65. Just take the model and open it to all. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

You were the first person to mention threats. In fact if you recall (which I'm sure you do, you're just being difficult) I argued that Trump could theoretically be evil and not pose a threat to the country. Remember that? It was yesterday. Really not very long ago. So, since you brought the concept of real vs perceived threats as they relate to Trump into this thread, I really thought you might have some idea about what those real vs perceived threats might be. Do you not? I'm not saying Trump is evil. I'm saying many here can't tell the difference from a perceived threat vs. a real one. That Trump is evil is a perceived threat IMHO. I'd consider sexual assault to be pretty 'horrendous'. While he's never been convicted or even charged, the numerous allegations and his own admissions add up to a pretty convincing overall narrative. So Bill Clinton was also evil? Oh good, we're back at the "Bill Clinton did it too" thing. Sexual assault is evil. If Bill Clinton sexually assaulted someone then YES he is evil. I would like nothing more for the truth to come out in those cases because to me it does not matter if he's a member of the political party that I vote for or that I supported some of the things he did. Back to you. Do you think it is wrong to sexually assault someone? Absolutely it's wrong. I don't know whether it qualifies as evil. e·vil ˈēvəl/Submit adjective 1. profoundly immoral and malevolent. "his evil deeds" synonyms: wicked, bad, wrong, immoral, sinful, foul, vile, dishonorable, corrupt, iniquitous, depraved, reprobate, villainous, nefarious, vicious, malicious; malevolent, sinister, demonic, devilish, diabolical, fiendish, dark; monstrous, shocking, despicable, atrocious, heinous, odious, contemptible, horrible, execrable; informallowdown, dirty "an evil deed" Please don't dent the planet. That's a list of the most evil people the world has seen. If Trump were on that list would you finally quit defending every move of his? ...only when you quit villainizing his every move. So it doesn't matter to you if Trump were actually on that list as someone who committed horrendous acts, he's on your team so you're going to defend him just for the point of defending him. And THAT is exactly how those people got on that list. They were terrible people in their upbringing, most were normal soldiers with unremarkable careers who were enabled by people like you. Perhaps we have a different definition of horrendous. What "horrendous" acts has he committed? Why does it have to be "horrendous" to be evil. Deliberately harming others, even in a small way, is evil. Trump has done this, consistently, throughout his career. I'm not the one using the horrendous tag. Please don't dent the planet. So... could ya use some examples? Let's use a real simple one...the AAD. Could ya use some examples that relate to Trump? I'd need to know what threat you think Trump brings. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Yours is a poor argument because a number of other threats you have more control over. The threat of dying in a hook turn accident is completely mitigated by consciously not performing them. However, there is no other threat mitigation a jumper himself can take when it comes to instances of him being rendered unable to pull (or otherwise becoming unaware). While the AAD is no guarantee of a successful outcome, I've seen an unreasonable number of people's lives saved by AADs. If they hadn't had them, they would have certainly have cratered. You can find videos on YouTube of this happening all day long. Not debating their effectiveness. Refusing to make a jump without one (not a long term series of jumps) is a perceived threat that jumping without an AAD is dangerous. If you have control over something then it's not a threat at all. Not using an AAD is a threat to me. It's small, but the odds of me being killed due to the lack of an AAD is definitely higher than the odds of me being killed by a terrorist on an airplane that I am on, although I have come close on both accounts. Yet I spend far more time dealing with the TSA than I do dealing with my AAD. So it's certainly a real, and not a perceived, threat. It's simply a _small_ real threat. (And yes, I would still jump without one.) The additional safety the AAD provides is so miniscule it's hardly a blip. The perceived threat... jumping without one is dangerous. My biggest fear about trump is that he will get us into a war. I perceive that to be a real threat. Bush 2 did that, for no good reason, and I think that was his greatest mistake. But this guy is so much worse. I don't have to ask; I've made my decision. Based on my observations since being in the army in 1970, so I'm not that young, but yeah, I don't look a day over 65, I'm told. Young at heart anyway. Peace You weren't afraid about wars when Obama was in office? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

He could be evil and not be a threat to the US itself. He could be evil but relatively benign if he thought his own self interest aligned with not doing anything too overtly horrible. So... could ya use some examples? Let's use a real simple one...the AAD. I'll bet at this point in time a majority of up jumpers wouldn't make a jump without one. Yet everyone knows the actual threat of being knocked unconscious or being unable to deploy your reserve on any given jump is miniscule. Sure, sure...I understand about using every available means to be safe, but is jumping without an AAD that much more unsafe than jumping with one? Please don't dent the planet. Whether Trump is evil and whether Trump is a real threat to the American people are two different issues. The answer to one is not necessarily the answer to the other. That said, what are the real threats and perceived threats in this situation? In reality, how many American lives are seriously under threat from North Korea or Iran for instance, vs the number seriously threatened by the US government once more turning its back on universal healthcare? Well, he can be a threat without being evil but he can't be evil and not be a threat...unless you're OK with evil people. As far as real vs. perceived threats; The list is a long one. I place the blame on corporations mostly. They seem to be able to ratchet up a perceived threat to get people to purchase their products. It's also pervasive in health care, and anything that has to do with infants. Young parents are particularly susceptible. Our government is really good at it. But if you take a moment to really think, many of today's perceived threats aren't actually threatening at all. I know many of you here think Trump is a threat. There are probably some areas where you are correct. But I don't really think he is evil. Here's a good list of the truly evil. Trump isn't even close. http://emgn.com/entertainment/25-of-the-most-evil-people-the-world-has-ever-seen-the-things-they-did-are-absolutely-disgusting/ Please don't dent the planet. The mere fact that you have to ask this question demonstrates a lack of recognizing real threats vs. perceived threats, a problem I see in many younger people. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Try again: Can you cite a valid ruling from any federal court which ruled DACA unConstitutional? Not yet. Translation - NO. Until overturned after judicial review an executive order has a presumption of constitutionality. Absolutely agree John however, if you look at DAPA it's essentially the same thing as DACA except it was designed for the parents. I'm torn on this one. After watching some of the stories on the people who might be uprooted I'm inclined to scale it back some. Maybe only apply it to folks who arrived after the XO. Give the ones already here a path to citizenship. I certainly don't want to see people who've been here since the middle 80's booted out. My concern is once again we are offering an enticement to illegals who haven't yet arrived. Their greatest hope is to gain citizenship. We need to revise our immigration laws to make it easier to come here. But until we secure the borders its a moot point. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Lawyers on both sides said this would be overturned. kallend does not care because laws and constitutional limitations only apply to Repuplicans Well, no. Not really. https://pennstatelaw.psu.edu/sites/default/files/documents/pdfs/Immigrants/LawProfLetterDACAFinal8.13.pdf I've yet to read an equivalently well researched analysis that concludes that it is unconstitutional. If you guys have one, I'm eager to read it. Pro-tip: things aren't "unconstitutional" because you don't like them. And vice versa. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

There wasn't any "argument" to attack, that's what we were all laughing at. I don't see anyone laughing. While I'm conservative and not stupid, I at least have the courage of my convictions. If your posting a link whose headline reads Study links low intelligence with right-wing beliefs isn't a reference to my intelligence I'm not sure what it is. I don't mind if that's your belief but at least stick to it man. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I don't think I will take his opinion as overly unbiased when it comes to DACA's legality. Right up there with over 100 college professors and lecturers. Ultimately it will be decided by the Supremes. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

It all makes sense, really: https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/study-links-low-intelligence-with-right-wing-beliefs/article543361/?ref=http://www.theglobeandmail.com& Perhaps you have something of substance to add to the discussion? I understand you want to believe that conservatives are stupid. I guess if you can't attack the argument you must attack the poster. BTW...if you're going to copy and paste a link at least be smart enough to make it a clicky. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

The DACA controversy demonstrates the wages of the "progressive" conceit that our ingenious constitutional system is obsolete, that modern problems are so unprecedentedly complex they demand extra-constitutional solutions — such as a president's usurping of congressional power, exactly the road to tyranny the Framers feared. That is what President Barack Obama did in presidentially legislating the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program. Contrary to much of the public commentary, the defect in DACA is not that it was done in the form of an executive action (under the guise of a Department of Homeland Security memorandum). There is nothing wrong with an executive order that merely directs the lawful operations of the executive branch. The problem is the substance of executive action. DACA is defective in two ways. First, it presumes to exercise legislative power by conferring positive legal benefits on a category of aliens. Second, it distorts the doctrine of prosecutorial discretion to rationalize this presidential legislating and to grant a de facto amnesty. These maneuvers violated core constitutional principles: separation of powers and the president's duty to execute the laws faithfully. There has never been a shred of honesty in the politics of DACA. Democrats have taken the constitutionally heretical position that a president must act if Congress "fails" to. They now claim that to vacate DACA would be a travesty, notwithstanding that the program is blatantly illegal and would be undone by the courts if President Donald Trump does not withdraw it. https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2017/09/05/end-daca-follow-constitution Please don't dent the planet. Which article of the Constitution did it violate? How about separation of powers and the president's duty to execute the laws faithfully? Which article of the Constitution did it violate? Setting priorities within the budget allocated by Congress is within the authority of the President. If you'd like to refute my statement have at it. Please don't dent the planet.
