Ya, Kevin, great interview! When I first saw "Senseless" I was appalled - to me it was exactly the kind of thing that most people think of when they stereotype skydivers. Since I was working with (against?) the school administration to try and start a skydiving club, the show just frustrated me. A while later I read through his website and got a better idea of who he is and why he does those stunts. This interview also helped me understand him a little more. I'm still ambivalent about some of the stunts, but now I have a lot more respect for Troy Hartman than I initially did. I'll say it again - great interview!! Blues, squares, PTiger

All these smart people at Carnegie Mellon have come up with a different kind of pogo stick. They claim it feels like freefall for about a quarter of a second. Not much, but when you have a serious case of ground poisoning and it's too cloudy to jump, it may be all you can do... Blues, squares, PTiger

Have a great time Brandon - just remember: "Donde esta cerveza?" is the key to surviving in Mexico. Tell us all about it when you get back! Blues, squares, PTiger

How about a script that "pies" someone after they reach a milestone in post numbers? Example - I make post #200, and a reply is immediately posted from AutoPie™ that links to a picture, or simply says "PalmettoTiger just got pied for his 200th post! Get back to work or go skydiving, ya lazy bum!" I was thinking of registering the username "Pie" and doing it myself but figured it might be taken the wrong way if it wasn't an official part of the DZ.com forums. Blues, squares, PTiger

Nothing very promising... found this on Freshmeat, it appears to be a simple player. It's at v0.2 right now, so I wouldn't get my hopes up. Searching /. turned up these two but I didn't have time to investigate them further: Embedded Linux and Video Capture Video Production on Linux Blues, squares, PTiger

"Shi*! Motherfucke*! That fuckin* hurt like a bitc*!" Truer words were never spoken. Seriously, seeing that video was better preparation than any amount of FJC lecturing. If you're ever in the neighborhood of Shaw AFB look me up and I'll buy you a beer or three. Blues, squares, PTiger

h4w h4w h4w Wingnut, are you sure you aren't a sailor!? You had some, uh... "choice" words about that opening.

Yeah pal, I think you just proved that pretty effectively. Most of us grew up after high school and stopped trying to belittle other people because they didn't live their life the way the "cool" kids lived. Guess you never made that leap, huh? Blues, squares, No... strike that. No blue skies for you. PTiger Edited by palmettoTiger on 5/14/01 07:57 AM.

I hope no one needs the reminder, but it's a beautiful day and I can see how some skydivers would forget, especially if they've been stuck in some godforsaken place where jumping isn't possible, like an oil rig, or England. Today is Mother's Day!! Everyone who has a mother (that should be most of you, but who knows what kind of loonies we've got hanging around ) call her and thank her for everything she's done ever since you were born!! That is all. Blues, squares, PTiger

Glad to hear you're okay man. How about auctioning off cells from your main? "Own a piece of Wingnut's life! Only 12.95 plus shipping and handling!" Blues, squares, PTiger

I know where you're at, bro. It's a 75-minute drive to my DZ, so I'll start out all giddy and the top is down and the wind is roaring and I'm listening to my road music and I'm speeding (just a tad, I swear) and everything is right with the world. Then, after about 30 minutes, the road music no longer feels right so I'll switch to stuff that's less energetic, and I'll slow down, and I'll start going over emergency procedures. By the time I get to the DZ, I've nearly talked myself out of jumping. I actually didn't jump last time I was there, but I don't think it's a huge deal because the only thing on the flight line was a Cessna. I'm spoiled and I've never jumped anything other than King/Queen Air and Super Otters. I took one look at that plane and said to myself "Hop and pop, maybe, but from that plane? No." It was late on a Sunday so I just sat back, waited for the beer light to come on, and talked gear with the other jumpers. As soon as the used rig I'm buying arrives, though, I'm going to take it down there to get it inspected and have the Cypres installed, and I might be "forced" to make a jump or two while I'm there. Bottom line, don't sweat the nervousness, if you don't feel like jumping then don't jump. But at the same time remember that everybody gets freaked out about jumping now and then, and don't let yourself go too long without getting back up there! Blues, squares, PTiger

A personal favorite to sing when there are tandems on the plane (as long as they don't seem too freaked out): There was blood upon the risers, There were brains upon his boots.... Blues, squares, PTiger

Dude's name is Bill Booth. Founder of Relative Workshop and inventor of the 3-ring release, though I could be wrong on that. My favorite part of the video is when he mentions that "we hope to have a rule change sometime in the early 90s." I loved hearing that in May of 2000. The part where they show the ambulance driving off of the field is actually more entertaining than scary... have any of you seen the parody of the tandem waiver video that's floating around? I think it's on Pilot Dave's FTP. Blues, squares, PTiger

Thanks for all of your feedback, everyone. I'm working hard to earn the nickname "Caution" so hearing that other novices (novii?) aren't in over their heads at 1:1 is a big relief. Now I have to get back to mowing lawns, blackmailing celebrities, and robbing little old ladies - I went a little over budget on the container, reserve, and AAD. Oops! The money I got from selling my kidney didn't last as long as I thought it would... Blues, squares, PTiger

Well, it goes off kinda quickly so it's not as fun as some other times. And getting it pulled by someone else isn't nearly as much fun!! Blues, squares, PTiger

I agree with Austin... anyone heard the song "Villains" by the Verve Pipe? Listing the lyrics here wouldn't do the song justice, but basically it's about how magazines picture the criminals to get you to buy them and then sell you stuff with sexually suggestive advertising while completely ignore the victims. My understanding is that it's not going to be publicly televised. The confusion is because there are too many family members of victims that want to witness the execution. Usually executions are witnessed by a representative of the press, a representative from the prison system, and religious representative chosen by the condemned. Also, the condemned's family and the victim's family are given the option to view the execution. With 168 victims in the bombing, there's not enough space in the witness room for all the affected people to see it. So they're using closed-circuit (i.e. non-broadcast) TV to allow every family member a chance to witness the execution. Pyke, as for the Justice Dept's decision to delay the execution, I think it's a good move. You don't want to give ammo to the other crazy militia groups - "Hey, they railroaded him! It was a conspiracy! Evidence was withheld until after he died!" Etc. etc. Blues, squares, PTiger

What do you think of the P4? I'm not inclined to "upgrade" anytime soon. From what I've heard, just to achieve 0 performance gain, I have to buy a new mainboard and junk my SDRAM for Rambus. Er, strike that. Rambus is a bunch of lawyers. RDRAM is a memory type. Blues, squares, PTiger

If you're using Windows 95 or newer, click on Start, then Run. In the box, type "winipcfg". Look at the different adapters in the pulldown box, and when you see one that has an IP address and subnet mask, post those numbers here. Blues, squares, PTiger
