Ahh, well. It was worth a try. Hey.... can I be first alternate? Blues, squares, PTiger

For all of you who need help with pick-up lines (weren't some of you asking about lines to use at Texel?), I have found a solution. Let me know how the testing goes!!

To make this more interesting: Say, hypothetically, you know a jumper with 10 jumps. Fresh off of student status. He (er, he/she, we don't know ) weighs 225 out the door. If he had the choice between a Sabre 230 and Silhouette 230, which would you recommend? Blues, squares, PTiger

Ground poisoning -- that's great!! I have 3 new skydiving terms from this week: ground poisoning, cock check, and hump loading. Must... use... at DZ... this weekend....

Here is the followup story reporting that the jumper in question is expected to make a full recovery. Blues, squares, PTiger

Yeah, they have a big-screen TV in the packing area so you can watch skydiving movies (or whatever's on, but why?) from damn near the other side of the landing area. Oh, and you can join the manifest staff in singing "Build Me Up, Buttercup" if you have a good voice. Blues, squares, PTiger

For true accuracy, the "male" button should be a lot easier to find than the "female" button. Blues, squares, PTiger

Don't know about Scottish roads and drivers, but according to rough calculations the fatality risk of 1 skydive in the US is the same as driving 440 miles on US highways. How many miles are on your car? And can you think of 440 of them that are as exciting as one skydive? Skydiving is risky. Anyone who tells you it isn't is lying to you. But if vehicular fatalities were covered with the same uninformed gusto that the press applies to skydiving incidents, you'd be afraid of your car too. I've studied English, German, and Japanese and still can't find the right words to describe skydiving. If I could convey to everyone what a thrilling experience skydiving is for me, I'm convinced that 95% percent of the population would try it once just to see if it can be the same experience for them. "Fun, exciting, thrilling, beautiful" don't even come close. Blues, squares, PTiger

Yeah, but if we started working for you then we'd have to quit posting here -- the boss would always be able to tell if we're not hacking away at three-banana problems like diligent little code monkeys should! Blues, squares, PTiger

The reviews in the gear section are all positive and I have an opportunity to get one at a good price. Does anyone here know of novices jumping silhouettes? What wingloading are they at? PD seems to be recommending .75 for novices - are they being conservative for liability reasons or are their recommendations generally in line with most people's experience? Thanks in advance! I was starting to think I'd never get to do AFF when I was at Cross Keys; every time I made it down there or at least had time and transportation (both rare for me) the winds were kicking too high. Then when I came to SC I was shocked to find out that nearly every weekend is blue skies and low wind!! WOOHOO! Of course, I have yet to spend a day at the DZ during our lovely 100% humidity, 100 degree days of summer, so I'm sure it will even out. But still... thank God for less wind!! PS No offense to the X-Keys crowd, as soon as I get back up there I wouldn't think of jumping anywhere else. Blues, squares, PTiger

Yeah, just about the only way to make a small fortune in skydiving is to start with a large one. Blues, squares, PTiger

Welcome to the forums Dave! Oh, and... BEER! While I'm on the subject of milestones, everybody keep a virtual pie handy for Cloud9 who's sitting pretty at 99 posts... Blues, squares, PTiger

SCREW bungee jumping. What, 2 seconds of freefall, and then no time to play under canopy? Hey, broken rubber might have brought me IN to the world, but it sure as hell isn't going to take me out!!! Blues, squares, PTiger

It's a newsgroup, which is completely different from a web site. Well, it's all 0s and 1s in the end, but the concepts are different. A newsgroup is a lot like an e-mail list, except is isn't delivered to your inbox - the messages are sent to news servers, and if your account includes access to news servers (aka Usenet) then you can go to them and browse through the messages there. Deja.com also had a really extensive system for accessing newsgroups through web pages (which is slower than an actual news server and news program like Netscape Messenger or Outlook), but when Google bought them out the service got gutted. They're slowly bringing it back. If you're interested, go to http://www.google.com and poke around. Blues, squares, PTiger

Hey Greg, speaking of groaners, I think you almost took the cake with your post about your "static line" "night jump" out of a "beaver." The only thing you didn't explain was whether you got "baglock" or not. Blues, squares, PTiger

Sorry for the obscure jokes, I don't think many people got it. The 1st week of August is 9 months before the 1st week of May, when so many people seem to be having birthdays. November 14th is exactly 9 months after February 14th... Valentine's Day. Blues, squares, PTiger

I don't mean to sound pessimistic but there's a reason lots of people are selling Sabres. Tell your friend that it's a good canopy as long as he/she is willing to put a lot of effort (and maybe a neck adjustment or two) into learning to pack it correctly. Blues, squares, PTiger
