  1. A joke that you all have probably heard by now, but I'm gonna say it anyway: What's the difference between skydiving and crack? Your first hit of crack is free. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  2. Is line dump a mal, or does it just mean you get whacked? Does the out-of-sequence unstowing cause other malfunctions? Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  3. Practice flaring, and slowly letting the toggles back up. This will give you an idea of the pressure and speed needed to get a good flare, and will also keep you from reflexively letting the toggles all the way up if you flare too high. Stall your canopy once or twice too, so you learn to recognize it and recover. Practice braked turns - pulling both toggles partway down, then letting one back up a little to start a turn in the oppposite direction. These are good for low turns to avoid obstacles or other jumpers when you might not have enough altitude to do a regular toggle turn and recover fully. (I've also heard these referred to as flat turns.) Experiment with front and rear riser inputs - not really useful to you now except for collision avoidance right after opening. All of this should be done up high - if the S&TA and everyone on the load is okay with it, pull high (~5k)EDIT whoops, forgot you're doing AFF... /EDIT so you can play around and not be in anyone's way. You also want to leave yourself room for emergency procedures if something goes wrong. Also, be sure to check all around you - 360º, and above and below too - before you try anything. If these maneuvers are new to you, you can't be sure how far you'll turn or dive. You don't want to do I-CReW with anyone. 4. If that happens, go forward to the spellcheck page, highlight all of your text, Ctrl+C to copy it, and then back to the blank posting page. Paste all of your text there. You won't get any of the urls and smileys and quotes back, but if it was a long post at least you haven't lost everything. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  5. Canadians aren't stupid! They're awesome! Let's have a cheer for the Canadians!! Give me a C, eh! Give me an N, eh! Give me a D, eh! What does that spell? CANADA!!! Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  6. I recently switched from a Manta 290 (ZP) to a PD 230 (F-111), changing wingloadings from 0.8 to 1.0. I noticed more forward drive and a little faster descent but nothing that put me in danger or felt out of control. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  7. Good to have you back. Be sure to post any pictures you get (from skydiving and Mexico)!! Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  8. That was my first thought, too! Seriously, I can't think of much. Talking is useless. If your eyes go really wide, the instructors will think it's just shock at being in freefall. Maybe patting your rig and then pointing to them? Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  9. I had the same problem two weeks ago. I just moved my hands together in front of my face so that I could hang on to my altimeter with my right hand, yet still be symmetric. Although a loose wristband was the problem last time, I feel like the Altimaster IIs, with their larger face, can hang out past the edges of your wrist, catch air, and be pushed around a little. The Altimaster-IIIs actually get smaller as you go from the base to the face, so as long as it's strapped tightly it can't catch air on an odd edge. Hmmmm... that didn't come out very clearly. But take a look at one and you'll see what I mean. The Altimaster III just looks more "aerodynamic" than the Altimaster II. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  10. Well spoken!! Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  11. Check out this old thread. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  12. Yeah, it really galls me to hear people say "I am so offended by (insert person/publication here). It should be banned!!" WHAT?! You do NOT have a right to not be offended. I, however, DO have a right to free speech. If it offends you, rebut it. Don't suppress it. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  13. I think all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  14. Your router definitely is worth it if you're doing LAN parties or if you have more than one computer and want to share connections. I just didn't want folks to think a router was necessary for security. Just FY'allsI, BlackICE has some issues with spyware and trojans (see bottom of this page). ZoneAlarm is a cheaper and more complete solution. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  15. You don't need a $120 router, you need $0 ZoneAlarm. Although if you have the router, you get to screw around with it and messing with computers is always fun!! Right? Guys? ... Gals? ... anyone? Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  16. Clemson?! Check my e-mail address and then tell me if you think that I go to a school that believes tigers are orange and purple. Blues, Squares, PrincetonTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  17. Thank you so much Jean!! Detailed information from people who know is why these forums were created (and validate the excessive hours I spend here). Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  18. Back-of-the-envelope comparison, using skydiving stats from '98 (earliest conveniently available) and driving stats from '97 (latest available): 1 skydive carries the same fatality risk as 440 miles on US Highways (not just interstates). There are of course lots of little exemptions you could claim: do you jump a lightly-loaded canopy? AAD? RSL? Drive a big car? Drive in your neighborhood or on the open road? My point isn't to say that driving is more/less dangerous than skydiving, but to give people an equivalent risk factor for something most of us don't think twice about doing. In my "presentations" on skydiving, I use this number so people can get a better idea of how often "almost never" happens. So. How many miles are on your car? 19. Nah, first of all we couldn't find a splitter, and second of all they'll be putting sound out simultaneously (playing mp3's on 'Fat Man' and Combat Flight Sim 2 on 'Little Boy') so I need an actual switch. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*

  21. And just for fun... This project will: End successfully when the switch works Be abandoned when the cost of materials exceeds the cost of a second set of speakers End unsuccessfully when PTiger gets electrocuted Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  22. OK, a little help from the electrically inclined (or those that have shocked themselves enough times to know what not to do) would be appreciated. I'm trying to rig a switch for my computer speakers but I've run into a problem with the ground wire(s). Anyone who knows what a ground wire is should click here to find out how you can help. Thanks in advance everyone!! Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  23. Hey Lazerq3, I'll Roshambo you for that tape. Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
  24. Preach on, brother Terrence!!! I can't stand women who wear low-cut tops or otherwise skimpy clothes and then get angry when they get noticed. "It's for fashion, not for ogling!" Fashion my ass! If I walked around with half a nut hanging out, it wouldn't be because it's fashionable. It would be because I WANTED PEOPLE TO LOOK AT IT. 25. The link is now up. I also wrangled OPS privileges, so you all had better behave!! Blues, Squares, PTiger *insert sub-100 character sig here*
