Okay, I Screwed Up, I made an Idiot of myself, I'm a Moron!!
skydiverton replied to Unstable's topic in Instructors
Well you made a mistake. We all do sometimes. Please do not blame yourself to much. You just start as an instructor. The good point is you saw what happened and adjusted this for the other jumpers. There are a lot instructors (also experienced) which drop the second student at the same place. Lightweight student and big canopy is always critical. Perhaps you can try "Heavy first" next time. Try to evaluate yourself from time to time. Try not to make the same mistake twice. One of my examinors told me something like: It is better to sit at home in the evening and feel bad about not allowing a student to jump. Than feeling bad because you have to visit the student in hospital or worse that should not be allowed to jump. Making jokes with someone who makes a little mistake (but nothing happened) is very cheap humor. At the DZ I jump we would kick that guys ass. We had a funny thing last weekend. The instructor that does the ground-shool normaly. Did a tandem in the lastlift with all the students around a bonfire and he showed a perfect emergency procedure. Well after that we had to explain: Find canopy in corn-field to the students ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
the toggle gets loose durgin freefall, what would you do?
skydiverton replied to Unutsch's topic in Safety and Training
1) Buy yourself a rig suited fot the type of jump you plan. 2) Open your main it might open without a malfunction. In case it malfunctions you can pull your reserve. 3)Releasing your second toggle??? Thy that on the ground. Let a friend time it. How much altitude did it take. I'm sorry but this is a crazy idea. Conclusion: a) Avoid problems by avoiding them (proper gear, training) b) Stay with the emergency drill. Do not try to be intelligent at the moment the problem occurs. This will kill you one day. The solution you took (pulling reserve) is in each case a much better solution than trying to release the second toggle. There was a serious gear problem, you survived without injury. So you reaction was ok. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
It's what the manufacturer says. Just follow it or buy a rig that does not have this problem. It sound rather scary to me. A pilot which becomes loose during time? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Which mechanical altimeter do you like better?
skydiverton replied to cvfd1399's topic in Gear and Rigging
Got a Barigo, cheap altimeter, Already lasts for 10 years (1300 jumps) without big problems ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
You did 14 Tandems?!?!? Geeze dude, are you afraid to jump by yourself?? Ya Know, you CAN transition to a Solo method very easily - Just go ahead and ask one of your instructors.... ***Damn, My jokes suck at 2:30 in the morning...*** I've jumped a solorig before, and you know what happened?? I make a nice exit, pulled my droque and spend 15 minutes under canopy. YUM, YUM, FEEDING TROLLS ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

14 tandems ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

That might be an extra help if they are heavy. Less chance to become instable. Did 14 tandems this weekend, no kickers this time ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

1) giving someone a first0jump experencie without spending 1 dayin the classroom first. 2) Experience excitement of studentys right after freefall 3) Just bought a house, so a little $$ is welcome ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Most people underestimate the forces on a strong point. I once saw a broken strongpoint which was also not the official strongpoint but something manufactured by the owner. This was in france, with a pilatus porter No accidents, parachute opened because the jumpmaster had the line also in his hand (He had a minor injury on his hand because of the snap) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Like it sometimes (busines-trips) for the rest ... Well it pays alright. In each case it pays more than I can make with full-time (tandem) jumping in the netherlands. Ok I'm a senior design engineer Landing Gear, so all my bussines-trips go to helicopter and airplane builders (No free jumps out of prototype airplanes till now) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Did some tandems from a C182. Did not like it at all because of the climbing out and the reversed passenger position on the step. A bad body position will result very quickly in an unstable exit. I can imagine what would have happend with the jump I mentioned in the first article if made out of a C182. The dropzone I jump now has a C206 piston and a C206 turbine. Both with carco door. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Pilatus PC12, future jump A/C?
skydiverton replied to AggieDave's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Better buy a caravan. Far better economic. Pilatus makes nice airplanes, but way too expensive. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
1st injured student: Any other ideas on getting legs up and out?
skydiverton replied to JJohnson's topic in Instructors
I always tell them something like: If you can't pull up your legs we will land the total weight on your feet and fall forward on your face......It's your face, I don't care. Till now this has been a good motivation I only experience this problem with hamburger shaped passengers. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
Yes you are right. It was friday, I was at work looking out of the window and the sun was shining Turned out ok made 7 jumps this weekend ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
skydiverton replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
I'm in between the young- hot shot an the gray-old man. (I'm 32) I agree experience (in jumps or years) is much more important than being a hot-shot. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
My first tandem yesterday (about 400 tandems in total). I was very happy I made a stable exit out of our C206. (Sit in door face prop) We cleared the door perfect and inmediately after droque-setting the passenger freaked out (after 5 seconds in freefall) completely. kicking his legs and grabbing with his arms. I tried to correct him but het did not react at all. The guy was really fighting. So I decided to fly the tandem till about 6000ft (It was flyable). Than I did a quick pull and a very agressive X to maintain stability and allow the canopy to open correct. Under canopy the passenger calmed down very quickly and told me he could not breath (I always tell the passengers If you can not breath yell as loud as possible) I leard 3 thinks: 1) Never trust a passenger. They can freak out any moment (Passenger was reaction normal in the plane) 2) I stay with my stable exits instead of intentional loops 3) It supprized me how much control I still had (remaining heading) with a passenger kicking agressively and continiously grabing with his hands Again: "a tandemjump is not just another jump" Has someone experienced the same, how did you solve this? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Do your initial training in the US/CANADA or western europe. It is best to do the training in the country you live in. I do not know whether a foreign AFF-graduation is accepted in Canada. For example a german with a foreign AFF-graduation is not recognized in Germany. The person has to do a graduation re-jump. Prague is in the former communist-eastern-europe. Even in Wetsren-europe we have sometimes problems with those licenses (Prague is only 8hours drive for me) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
skydiverton replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
Netherlands: 1000Jumps 3years no instructor licence Germany: 500Jumps 3years and instructor licence France: 1000Jumps ??years and instructor licence Belgium: 500Jumps ??Years and instructor licence A lot of people only think about jumping much and making easy money when talking about tandem. Partially I agree(as a TM) at some dropzones you can jumpat lot and like a pilot of an airplane most of the times you have an easy job. But you are there to take action in case something is going to get wrong. Tandemjumping is a seperate discipline like RW or Freefly. You have to know what you are doing and learing does not stop with the graduation of your license. Unfortunately a lot of jumpers think to easy about it. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
1 decaNewton. This is sometimes used because it is about the force 1 Kg generates in earth gravity. So you will need a force of about 1daN to lift 1Kg (2.2lbs) This method of indicating a force is not commonly used any more, but some companies still do. This was the last serious question I've answered today. It is almost weekend here in europe and the weather is GOOD!!!!!!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Three years in sport requirement for Tandem instructors
skydiverton replied to freefalle's topic in Instructors
I agree, you do not only learn from jumping but also a lot from hanging around a DZ. Experience is not only a number of jumps. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig -
Bill, Of course You should have the ability to jump with your daughter, espessially in such an event. Now it becomes clear to me you only have problems with taking underage in the US because of legal issues. I assume you agree underage passengers can be taken in countries without such a law system. I think you do a great job for the sport, please continiue the way RS is doing. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

I would not recommend a student to jump a 140reserve. You will be stresses when you have to fly the canopy. For yourself are you confident you can land the canopy safely in an unknown area? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig

Riggers usually charge some extra for pop-tops with the pin at the backpad, not behind a cover at the same side as the closing flaps (like javelin and advance) I like the advance rig. My next rig will be one ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Using your droque to gain stability is a bad habit, Especially when you are jumping a sport rig
