  1. I usually export a single AVI file with DV compression from Premiere, but thats just a temporary file. Its used for encoding to DivX or MPEG. DivX: I reduce interlace flicker while encoding to DivX with VirtualDub. No problem with those videos, quality is best when played with the DivX player (The Playa). MPEG: When i encode to mpeg, i don't encode für use on a PC but for use on an SVCD, since they get played on a DVD player so i don't need deintelacing. I use TMPEG for that. If your DV Format AVI doesn't play fluid then thats probalby because your HD can't read that fast because notebook HD are slower and DV compression requires to much space. I would recomend encoding to a nice deinterlaced DivX Video. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  2. I don't think that will ever apply to me. 14 days of vacation in any work contract in illegal in my country
  3. As far as i know a reserve ride happens every 700 to 1000 jumps. I was tough it happens in average every 800. But thats just numbers fact is it can happen any time, so be ready for it on every jump. Once you are under a good canopy that still doesn't mean you are save. One of the major reasons for fatalaties is landing problems, most of them under high performance canopies among them a lot of jumpers with low experience but not all of them. But having a big fully functional canopy still should not make you feel totaly save. I have 221 jumps no cutaways, only a mini malfunction, that was due to my pilot chute getting cought up in the steering lines. Consequence was it did not fly totally straight. 4. Was the knot similar to the one discussed in this thread? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=470530;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; I don't understand how the knot came into your brake lines. 5. The original text said "luft anker" that translates to "air anchor" the original author uses it sort of as a nick name for his pilot chute. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  6. ROFL can anybody that does not understand german understand that translation? What Program did you use for the translation? Here are a few corrections, but its not error free now, but you should know what happend now. Accident course of events hello everything with one another for all interesting below the exact operational sequence of the incident: In that night we checked the wind several times in the area of the uptown towers. On the day a quite strong wind blew in Munich. At the night the wind became weaker and at around 01:00 groundwinds where 2,6m/sec on average at night, with a maximum of 4m/sec (measured with "wind masters"). For a building that was still too much for me. At approximately 02:00 o'clock there was almost zero wind and thus I walked into the building and arrived over the well lit up stairway into the 36nd floor, which was still open and without windows. I made myself ready for the jump, the wind at the exit could hardly be felt and the flags and bushes at the ground did not move after repeatedly checking the situation (traffic, wind etc..) I jumped starting from stable exit, delay from approximately 1.5 seconds, stable and symmetrical after body position throw my air anchor (pilot chute), which I held with my hand, I had an extremely rapid 180° opening towards the building. that was because my pilot chute reciprocated very strongly and twisted my canopy as it withdrew from the container. with a backriserturn i tried to clear the situation, which did not suceed because i was to close to the building. I collided with the building and the canopy collapsed rapidly. By rapid acts i was able to inflate the canopy almost completly. Since however the "nose" looked to the object, I collided a second time with the glass facade now collapsing the canopy completely and lines got caught at my left leg. I succeeded to get me the leg free however now wound my whole remaining body in the lines. I knew the fact that this was the end of life... floor for floor i fell backwards down and fought with the lines. suddenly my fall abruptly stopped as I looked upward i saw that 2 A-lines and some fabric hung on a an attachment point for a 150m high construction crane, I thought that this can be only of short term and i would continue to fall the remaining 10 floors. besides i noticed that my right 3-Rig System was broken and the 3 risers hung half meter above me. The cutaway cable wedged was still in the loop (no reserve only for separate with tree landings etc..) Rainer informed the fire-brigade, which freed me in a complex maneuver (cut open the house front) For about 1 hour i dangled helplessly on the 10th floor. I had suffered no injuries and was arrest. the executive officials where extremely nice. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  7. Nope, not Felix. There is a thread about that in Stammtisch here on this site. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=713252;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Wich links to the report of what happend by the base jumper http://skydance.at/stories/90148/#90620 But its all in german. The building is not far from where i am now. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  8. Why only in my country? Archos Products are sold in nearly every country. I have a jukebox studio 20 pretty good value for money. I don't think so. The Archos devices all work like a exchangable hard drive, you plug it into your computer and you got an additional Harddisk. They do ship Musicmatch Jukebox with some of their devices, but i have never used it. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  9. Have a look at the Jukebox Multimedia Products from Archos http://archos.com/. A lot of them have card readers available for them to read different types of memory cards. Advantages? It can show you the pics on a color display, plays certain Videos, can work as a VCR and if the hard disk is to small for your needs, just exchange it for a bigger one (or have it exchanged). But i will agree that the iPod looks a lot better. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  10. Quade, you are totally right here. The US media did under-report things during and after the Iraq war and still does. I remember seing a documentation about the media during the war. One thing i can recall was the comment of a reporter (i think from fox news) that she felt bad that she did not and could not report everything she wanted, up to the extent that she wanted to. In this case she was talking about civilian casualties. I guess there is a simple explaination for why this had to be. Private media has to show what the people want to see, or else nobody will watch it. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  11. Definately a must see. It's the type of movie that reminds us how humand do react in extreme situations. Did the movie just come to the american theaters? Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  12. Thanks for all the usefull links. I remembered prices for electronics being cheaper in the US, but the difference is not that great (15%, but without US tax). Cheapest price for what i was looking for (Archos Recorder 20 mp3 Player) was found by nextag.com. Thanks again Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  13. Hi There, can anybody name me a website that finds me the best price on digital cameras, computer hardware and stuff like that for the US market? I got a good link to the prices in my home country but need one for the US. Thanks Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  14. I don't know, i jumped the DO-27 in Kaufbeuren, but that DO-27 is not regularly for skydiving. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  15. It is a DO-27. More pics: http://www.do-27.de/ More info: http://www.dornierdo27.de/ There is a dropzone in germany that is currently geting one of these modified with a turbine. But i am not sure it will ever actually fly. Franco If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  16. Here is another one. Hope it is a hard one. If it does not cost anything you are the product.
  17. Hi, all over the place there is the question on how much experience someone should have before starting video. All experienced jumpers mention that there is a lot of experience an very good control of you body in freefall required. This, for sure, is the most important part if you want to shot perfect video.Concerning safety it is worth to take a look at the incident reports. http://www.skydivingfatalities.info A search for the word video in all fatalaties shows you this page. Video incidents Not all of them involve the Cameraflyer, here are the numbers that (possibly) do: 1 cause: Canopy Collision/Low turn Experience 387 jumps 3 cause: Malfunction Experience 400 jumps 7 cause: Malfunction Experience 780 jumps in all three cases video was possibly or part of the problem 4 cause: CRW jump, Slider entaglement on the camera Experience 2000 jumps 23 cause: Entaglement with Eyepiece Experience: 323 jumps 24 cause: Entaglement mit Front mounted still Camera Experience: 3000 jumps In all these 3 cases the camera was the problem. Experience doesn't save you, if you call someone experienced with 500 jumps, then there is no real tendency for inexperienced cameraflyers to get killed more often. From reading all the incident reports things that can save you are probably: -Snag free Helmet, no Suspensionlinehooks (Ringssights), no gaps, no lenses sticking out, nothing. -a good cutaway system -Nothing in your sight, Ringsights should flip up, reinforcements for paper holes should be transparent -an audible is highly recomended -a certain amount of experience -skydive like you normaly would, don't care much about what is going to be on your Video, that will keep you from getting distracted. I guess this is the advice that should be given to someone like me who has just a little more than 200 jumps and that started Video. I know thats not the recepie for great video, but i am not jumping camera for profit, just for fun. Great Video will develop with more experience and routine that keeps me from getting distracted. Ok, thats my opinion, what do you think about it? FrancoR
  18. Have a look at this thred in incidents: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=626949;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread There fonzi writes that the person was told not to jump because he had twisted risers. He took the wrong decision and jumped, it was his last jump. If people would take the decision not to jump because they are uncomfortable with something, maybe a few incidents could be avoided. Whats the cost of a jumpticket compared to the price of a possible injury or death? It should not be an issue if people take the decision not to jump, even if it seemed totaly unnecesary.
