  1. Agreed. One that I remember in particular was for a friend killed in a school shooting. Seeing her made it feel real (the whole thing was so sureal overall, it was like being in a bad dream, and seeing her in the casket grounded me in reality). And this is the one reason I've heard (honestly don't recall where) that open caskets have been the norm in the past. ...something about the human grieving process and that often some cannot get out of the denial phase and begin to get over the loss without being confronted with irrefutable proof that their loved one truly is dead. Elvisio "keep mine closed" Rodriguez
  2. What was her name? Elois? Reservoir Dogs, wasn't it? Ah, Tarantino would be proud! Elvisio "think that was it" Rodriguez
  3. Wikipedia sez: Essex is a town in Chittenden County, Vermont, United States. The population was 18,626 at the 2000 census. This is probably what helps him get away with his style of business: he knows everyone who rides in his cab. With only 19.000 people, if you stiffed him it would take a matter of minutes before the whole town knew you were an asshole. Cool idea though. Elvisio "wonder if the DZ's will pick up on this" Rodriguez
  4. Pretty schweet, dude. So, chat it up a bit. What modifications were made to the rig and/or jumsuit to assist you with your body position? I see what looks like a web (like a stubby wingsuit) between your upper legs, izat so? Does the wind resistance on that web help push your legs back? Sure seems to help your track! Also looks like you have some extra structure to your leg straps. Something to hold up the legs on landing? Any other mods? All in all looked like a pretty smooth skydive. The most stressful part of the whole thing looked like the 270 line twist your camera guy had on deployment! Elvisio "do it to it" Rodriguez
  5. ...in engineers? Elvisio "not taking it personally" Rodriguez
  6. Any obvious reasons for the smelliness? What was the rest of the patient's presentation? Unkempt appearance? Other indicators of poor socioeconomic status? Or, did they have workout clothes on and might have just come from the gym? There may be a reason they can't shower. OTOH, they may just be fucking clueless and need a wake up call. Elvisio "game time decision" Rodriguez
  7. Cost? EDIT: a quick google romp shows many sites touting the Leaf but nobody ready to name a price. One site says to "expect $25,000-$30,000" but gives no source. Elvisio "penny pincher" Rodrigeuz
  8. Clicky no worky for me, but is it the same as this? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3631176;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread If so, you're busted! Elvisio "Ivan?" Rodriguez

  10. My opinion about "calling in sick:" you shouldn't have to be sick, or PRETEND to be sick, to call in. We work damn hard for whoever it is we work for. The company has and administers a system that limits the amount of truancy a particular employee has. It varies from company to company but simply put: miss too much time and you're out. If I decide to take a "day off" I shouldn't have to degrade myself and whoever it is I'm talking to by pretending I'm sick; as long as I keep from missing too much time. I just call, and I say "hey, I'm not going to be coming in today." And, for the record, this is ALSO the attitude I held when I was a department manager with thirty people reporting to me. The company gave me a system to use to track and control my team's absenteeism. I simply administered the system, never took it personally. Won't be in today? No problem, thanks for the call. But hey, call in too many times and, just as impersonally, your ass is on the street. NOW, if FMLA or short- or long-term disability was involved, then there needed to be a genuine need with the requisite paperwork to prove it. But otherwise, for just a day here or there, just call and say you won't be in, don't give me an earache with all the fake coughing on the line. Elvisio "them's the facts" Rodriguez
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6jfm0hq0bk&feature=haxa_popt00us05 Aw man, I know it makes me a nerd but I think I just got a little bit of a chubbie... And how cool that after all these years Jeff Bridges is back for the sequel... Elvisio "MCP was a bitch" Rodriguez

I still bust a stitch every time I watch the Kavorkian Scarf installment. ... I think it's because I'm in healthcare and have dealt with patients (and family members for that matter) on whom I'd love to try that particular trick. Elvisio "David Carradine might still be alive today if only..." Rodriguez
  13. Wow. Over eighty years later, and we could only HOPE that today's media could do as well with such a report. Small bit of confusion: did he holler before exiting the aircraft, and folks on the ground heard because the engine wasn't running (and presumably too close to the ground for opening)? Elvisio "nearly as fool-proof as possible" Rodriguez
  14. Good News: I'm finally scheduled to test out for the practical portion of my Paramedic exam on August 7. Bad News: Yikes! I'm scheduled to test out for the practical portion of my Paramedic exam on August 7! Elvisio "less posting, more studying, dammit!" Rodriguez
  15. Dude, that is the BOMB! Admit it: how many more people are going to read that ad compared to the usual "runs well, clean interior" kind of ad? Elvisio "the MC Hammer pants are CLASSIC" Rodriguez
  16. Not to overly alarm you, but consider that where there is one there are probably more. Consider chemical interdiction. Elvisio "interdicition?" Rodriguez

  18. I'm actually walking out the door to go to BW3 to watch UFC 100. Place your votes now, we'll see how you all did when I get back after much beer and wingy goodness! Elvisio "diet buster" Rodriguez
  19. They're pinning their future on the $40,000 Volt. Only GM... Elvisio "not for forty large" Rodriguez
  20. At best, the man was a twitchy, weird megamillionaire who didn't know what to do with his money. At worst, the man was a known pedophile who used his megamillions to get a away with it. I do not think I could possibly care less that he's been swept off the face of this Earth. Elvisio "too harsh?" Rodriguez
  21. Worked all day. Will work all day tomorrow. Fak. Elvisio "people keep doing dumb shit on July 4th weekend and end up in my ICU" Rodriguez
  22. Best part for me is that when I clicked on this link it was just above the "How do you like your bacon?" poll. Elvisio "extra crispy" Rodriguez
  23. But your PCP will have an answering service with somebody on call. They WILL take your call at any hour, it's their job. Elvisio "been there" Rodriguez
  24. For everyone who said they had been "sick for days" or "trying to sleep it off" before going to the ER, next time call your PCP (Primary Care Physician, i.e. your family doc). Your copay would have been much lower (what, maybe 20-50 bucks) and the care you received would have been the same. Unless you are dead or dying, always start with your PCP. Worst case scenario: they refer you to someone else. For issues like the tweaked knee, think about an urgent care facility. They'll get you the radiology exams you need to see if it's a bone or soft tissue issue, and refer you appropriately. Again: much cheaper than the ER. Average-Joe-Americans (even those with insurance) who have the wherewithal to pay their medical bills need to save the ER for situations where you're so sick or hurt that you honestly don't care how much it's going to cost, because it's going to cost a lot, 'nuff said. Our ERs are swamped by people who either cannot or will not pay their bills; they don't care, they're used to the gov't paying their bills. They go there because of the number of docs that don't accept Medicare/Medicaid. Also, for them, it's faster. Why make an appointment for three weeks down the road to see the one doc in your area that takes Medicaid when you can go to the ER today, and the price is essentially the same? The system is simply broken, until it gets fixed (and I really don't see that ever happening) this is the way it's going to be. Again, the moral of the story: CALL YOUR PCP. S/he knows you best. Elvisio "minion of the hospital system" Rodriguez
  25. My thoughts exactly: Clean up your resume, gonna be a couple of great job openings in the near future! Elvisio "what's the base pay?" Rodriguez
