Although I imagine fast food beer will be on a par with fast food food (i.e. nothing to get too excited about), it does take me back. On a class trip to Spain in the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school, there was nothing cooler (at the time that is) than sitting in McD's, eating fast food and drinking a beer in front of my high school teachers. I agree, but take exception to a degree: it's easier for the students to shortchange themselves. In a traditional class, the teacher has two roles: that of teacher, and that of disciplinarian. The teacher is expected to enforce the rules that will FORCE the student to learn. Some students say they "need" this kind of structure. Additionally, because it is much easier to cheat (IMO) in online classes, a student can slack off, not do much work, and often cheat their way back into a decent grade. BUT: the opportunity for real education is still there, if (and admittedly it's a big IF) the student does the work and maintains focus. This, in addition to the additionall accessability offered by online education, makes me of the opinion that online education is worthwhile. For my next degree I'm planning on finding an all-online ADN to BSN program. It's going to cost a pretty penny, and such programs are not as common as others, but for my future-in-flux it'll be the best option. Elvisio "BB can be a PITA, though" Rodriguez

The thread I was hoping for was something along the lines of "which city would win in an all-out, gang-type, turf war?" I just imagine millions of New Yorkers and Angelinos wielding baseball bats, chains, and guns and strutting across the country towards a final confrontation somewhere in the midwest. Great ending to an (overall) great Olympics! edit to add more: what a great shot by Crosby. It was a low percentage, bad angle shot, but he put it on the net and good things happened. This is a perfect example for all learning hockey players (including us out of shape middle aged beer-leaguers): you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. I can understand how a Canadian hockey fan could be a little irate by that previous period. But as a fan of hockey in general, HOLY CRAP what a great game so far! And for the most part, Luongo has been AWESOME! He's been making saves standing on his head! Elvisio "4 on 4 is EXHAUSTING" Rodriguez

Considering that it's "medically necessary" and prescribed by a doctor, I think we're going to see some interesting lawsuits in the near future regarding this issue. I think we might be mixing two separate discussions here: casual vs. medically necessary use. Elvisio "unmuddying the waters" Rodriguez -
Yay! So that way, they can be spared the pleasure of a quick death so that their scarred, destoryed, cirrhotic liver can force them to languish for months! Wow, you don't think my working in a surgical/trauma ICU has made me bitter at all, do you? Elvisio "yikes, a little rough even for me" Rodriguez

I was the one who started the rant about the US uniforms and the huge Polo logo. So this may seem like I'm stuck in a rut, but HOLY CHRIST who told Norway's curling team it was a good idea to wear those pants? Elvisio "I'm blind!" Rodriguez

"What you risk just to have thrills when you're in your twenties is absurd. It's all part of that process of doing things that are daring to be accepted by your peers -- and it's absolutely insane. You can enter a never-ending vapid hole trying to catch the next exciting moment without ever stopping to appreciate it. It can be a never-ending process of chasing something that isn't there. I know it's a clich [sic], but I'm happy to be alive. I went skydiving and my chutes didn't open. Two of them." http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/a-line/10-things-you-don-t-know-about-leo-dicaprio/372?nc Really? Two of his chutes didn't open? How many was he wearing, then? Who has the skinny on this? Is this just old news I never heard? I'm sure somebody on the West Coast knows the details. Reserve line over? Stuck slider on the reserve? Total BS ranting of a movie star who hasn't done anything productive lately and is in risk of slipping into obscurity? I must confess: A part of me (one that honestly gets smaller and smaller every year) does get a little buzz out of the fact that I am involved in an activity that seems so EXTREME to the rest of the world. BUT, as I age in both overall years and skydiving years, I find myself increasingly pissed off by people (in general) and celebrities (specifically) who did one tandem ten years ago and feel the need to continually bring it up and make our sport dumber by association. Not so Silent Bob and being to fat to Fly?
skydiver30960 replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
Who would the airlines piss off more: the skinny folks by doing nothing, or the huskies by being more diligent about policing this issue? At the moment, this story notwithstanding, there really doesn't seem to be much hubbub about it. Lots of comedians crack jokes (even the fat ones joking about themselves, Ralphie May did a portion of his show in it) but is there really any APPRECIABLE threat to the airline's bottom line at the moment? Not really, so I expect no change will happen. "A weight and balance issue?" Damn, that's shitty. If there was no true CG problem, it was a crappy excuse. If somebody actually did the math and there WAS a CG issue on a plane that big, did they think they were going to fix it by removing only one (admittedly overweight) person? Yikes. As much as I hate government regulation, and if the government regulates the airlines anymore I think I'll pop, but I really do think a weight limit needs to be set. Total weight allowable per seat = one person OR XXX pounds per seat. Weigh more than that, you pay for two (or more) seats. Problem with that is the airlines will have to be fair and charge anyone over that weight accordingly, doesn't matter if your fat or tall or muscular. Sucks for me because I'm 6'2" and 230 pounds. If I got my wishes, travelling would probably get a bunch more expensive. Elvisio "that's MY armrest, dammit!" Rodriguez -
Will James Bond and Ms. Moneypenny EVER work things out?

BINGO. The consumers got a thrown big green donkey dick on this one. "Hey everybody, add ethanol to your gas! It's better for the environment!" So for only 10% of the ethanol, I now only get a 10-20% reduction in the mileage (depending on season, amongst a couple other things). Also, the 10% ethanol seems to burn dirtier in my hybrid, so the "check engine" light is always on. Elvisio "fak" Rodriguez

So who's watching the start of the Olympics tonight?
skydiver30960 replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
Oh, you mean the giant Polo/Ralph Lauren commercial? Sorry, that's another thread... Actually we won't be watching: we're going to see Ralphie May on stage tonight. Otherwise, I'd probably cast a glance in the direction of the Olympics for sure. Elvisio "despite the crappy RL uniforms" Rodriguez
