  1. Remember that it IS possible to get too much of a good thing. Fiber is good, but c'mon! We had a guy at work (I work in an ICU) that had a small bowel obstruction from eating too many apricots. He didn't eat the pits, and rumor was he did eat a LOT of apricots, but it just ended up being too much fiber for his body to move around at once and he ended up losing a few feet of his small intestine. Just food for thought... or for the other end, in this particular case... Elvisio "resection junction, what's your function?" Rodriguez
  2. ...your last post was about planeside vs. gate checking... Yep, I'm with you. I love me some planeside. It's the best of both worlds: I KNOW my stuff is going to make it, I have it right up until I board and have it back as soon as I get off, but I don't have to deal with stowing it or shoving it under my seat! Unfortunately, unless you're on a puddle jumper, it's usually gate checking that goes on. But for my "it'll get there" statement, I figure it'd be pretty hard for a thrower to lose my bag from the front of the plane to the back of the plane, so if I only have one leg to my trip then I'm comfortable my stuff is going to make it. I'm sure it's happened (gate checked bags getting lost), and it would spin me into a previously undiscovered flavor of pissed off if it did, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Elvisio "next trip is in September, need to work on smuggling liquor onto a cruise boat" Rodriguez
  3. Nah. I'm more for decreasing the amount of time handed down by the courts in favor of punishments that fit the crimes. Each of the guys involved should be held while the donkey gets to kick each of them squarely in the nuts. Then the guys should be allowed to pick up their shattered testicles and continue with their now sterile lives. Two birds with one stone: justice is served and the possibility of these knuckleheads producing offspring is eliminated. Elvisio "Solomon-like, don't you think?" Rodriguez
  4. If we wanted to fly with tanks then yeah, I think you do have to take the valve off. But the overwhelming majority (as in every place I've ever heard of) that is a SCUBA destination has dive operations or at least shops that provide tanks for you. That, and usually your lead weight. Good thing too: it'd cost a mint to fly with all that heavy crap. Elvisio "need to get some more salt water soon" Rodriguez
  5. Another nice thing about gate checking: at least you know your bag won't get lost getting ONTO the plane. If you have only one leg (one flight that is, not one physical leg, you know) you can pretty much be assured your stuff is going to arrive at your destination. The only time my wife and I fly anymore is SCUBA trips. We HAVE to check some of our gear. We keep the really important stuff in carryons, but still have to put our fins and BCDs in our checked bags. It hasn't happened yet, but a weeklong SCUBA trip can really get hosed quickly by a lost bag. You said you can get by with just a carryon, can you get the carryon under the seat? That's the gold, baby: that space is yours and nobody can take it from you. Elvisio "spent the entire flight with my knees in my throat, but had my stuff" Rodriguez
  6. Are you on scubaboard.com? If not, get there. There are more florida divers on that site than you can shake a stick at. Or, rather, there are more florida divers on that site than at which you can shake a stick...? Elvisio "grammamar nazis, get thee behind me" Rodriguez PS: Not that I'm trying to steal any of HH's business. I'm sure he won't mind you spending a little time over there.
  7. Don't worry Bytch, it won't cost a penny of your money to keep the firefighters safe. The gear they are talking about making mandatory on all such calls is gear they're already carrying and (apparently) should have been wearing. Instead, I'd rather we worried more about the safety of four guys who went out to help others in need and got hurt doing it. Yeah, they knew the risks. I'm a volly firefighter and I admit that when we go on an"odor of gas" call we don't pack up unless we smell something or the meters are indicating there is a flammable or dangerous gas in the air. I admit this may not be the safest way to do business. I will find out if the chief heard about this one (he probably has, or will soon) and will see if there are any changes around my firehouse secondary to this. Additionally, I'll be interested to see if there is any increase in heat stress injuries that corresponds to changes requiring firefighters to be "on air" (i.e. fully geared up with mask on and breathing from their scba) for all such calls. As with many things in the fire service, tradition and "the way we do it" play a big role. To affect a change in such situations would take changing the standard pattern of thought. As it stands now, if I went to a run-of-the-mill odor of gas call and came off the engine with mask on and on air, I'd be laughed out of the firehouse. And I imagine that most of the other firefighters on this board would say the same thing. Elvisio "a hundred different causes of odor calls, and none of them are good" Rodriguez
  8. So whats the secret to picking up a nurse? Anyone crack that one yet? Ask my wife. Apparently, nice tits and giving a great blowjob got her a foot in the door. Yeah, I know, I'm not the kind of nurse you guys are looking for. At least, I HOPE I'm not the kind of nurse you guys are looking for... Elvisio "decent at IVs but not a deadeye" Rodriguez
  9. Regular mermaid. The regular mermaid is hot and has a mouth, two hands, and two tits. In addition, how is the reverse mermaid gonna make me a sammich? Elvisio "keeping my priorities straight" Rodriguez
  10. Yep. Definitely John. Definitely West Point. Can you have the original finder check to see if the time and date taken are appended to the photos? If they don't have that, we could TRY using the date the photos were added to the jump drive, but it probably wouldn't work. If you had the time/date the pics were taken, a call to West Point might help narrow it down to a particular day's customers. Also consider that if it's JUST a jump drive that the owners probably still have all the pictures, and this was just the drive they were taking to work/the family get together/Walmart for copies. Not many videographers I know of hand out their work on jump drives. Elvisio "hey, keep up the good work though" Rodriguez ALONG THE SAME LINES: It's been all over Yahoo and ABC so it's old news, but I've been watching a thread on scubaboard since it started about a guy who found a camera in the Keys that floated all the way from Aruba. They found the original owners, and is a GREAT read if you have a couple hours to kill: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/335831-found-camera-stage-com-help.html
  11. The last thing I want to do is quash any kind of entrepreneurial spirit or "I can do it!" kind of attitude, but hell, I spend enough time here as it is! Elvisio "DZ addict already" Rodriguez
  12. Which is EXACTLY why I'd avoid the whole "lordy lordy look who's 40" and "over the hill" stuff. Not many ladies (or men for that matter) are initially excited about being 40. But, as they say, 40 is the new 30. It's all in how you spin it. So... Instead, focus on how young and vibrant she still is, all the fun stuff she still does, how wonderful her life has been in her more mature years, and how happy you are to be with her as you two continue your lives together. ... do it right and (since it was listed in the OPs original goals) the poontang will fall from the sky. Elvisio "a pirate looks at 40" Rodriguez
  13. For those who had streaming problems, I initially found the video on cnn.com, then switched over to the site listed on this thread, encountered the same streaming problems you guys had, then switched back to cnn.com in time to see the oh-so-enthralling abort. Please consider cnn.com for your future SpaceX streaming needs. Oh well... in science there is no failure, there is only "more data." Elvisio "in skydiving, however..." Rodriguez
  14. Came over to make sure this was already posted here. It is. Good. t-Six Elvisio "how could I doubt you all?" Rodriguez
  15. Don't worry. At the rate you're going your insurance rates will be so high that you'll be walking everywhere you go in no time! Elvisio "more dangerous than skydiving" Rodriguez
  16. Now, will Toews lift the trophy?!?! Answer given before I had time to post: No, he didn't. Elvisio "probably not" Rodriguez
  17. I bet she's a freak in the sack. Waddaya think? Elvisio "" Rodriguez EDIT TO ADD BEFORE I ACTUALLY POSTED: Whoa. Actually, she doesn't clean up too bad. See second pic.
  18. Ah, my hours of seamless vegetation in front of this 17" screen pay off... http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/thailand/330173-ssi-padi.html Elvisio "PADI for me, but haven't heard anything either way" Rodriguez
  19. At the grocery store, I always try to be good and get the light, low-cal stuff. Then, I get it home and and end up losing my willpower at the microwave and slather each bag with about a half a stick of butter and 1/4 cup of salt. Elvisio "it was worth a shot" Rodriguez
  20. Bull patties. Or, in your case, cow patties. There's no way you've NEVER played PacMan. Elvisio "doubting Thomas" Rodriguez
  21. A thread I picked up from another board. Most of it's way over my head but it's still a good read. It spans the situation from the technical side to discussions about blame and consequence. http://gcaptain.com/forum/offshore/4805-deepwater-horizon-transocean-oil-rig-fire.html Elvisio "if I can make a url, anyone can" Rodriguez
  22. "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." Elvisio "way too easy, but still a GREAT quote" Rodriguez P.S. Nobody got the "I'm just here to regulate funkiness" one. It's the bomb! It's my mantra in all walks of life.
  23. Clockwork Orange? Elvisio "malchick" Rodriguez
  24. This is the last sentence of the story, and the most telling. My guess is they aren't being "asked." Instead, they'll have the choice of paying the cash back or they'll just find their vacation time deducted by the appropriate amount on an upcoming check. What if somebody doesn't work there anymore? Elvisio "would be seriously pissed" Rodriguez
