  1. Congrats! Now buy your damn . Good stuff. No crap. We know where you live. Bottles ONLY. No twist off caps. Elvisio "except maybe Shiner Bock" Rodriguez
  2. Guppie: how does this guy play it at the office in other regards? Is he just puffing up his chest a little bit to keep up an air, or is he really a chauvinist in all regards? Hard to judge I guy I don't know based on one spur of the moment comment. Elvisio "but my watches suck, and don't even get me started about how I make cheese" Rodriguez
  3. While it's brand new and shiny: cut it up. That's the best possible outcome. Elvisio "no mo credit debt fo me" Rodriguez
  4. http://news.yahoo.com/video/politics-15749652/jet-makes-blind-landing-in-new-orleans-24793997 All the pilots and ATC controllers deserve (and probably need) to have many s bought for them. Elvisio "good job, guys" Rodriguez P.S. The FAA is a mass of red tape and bureaucracy, but I will say that the coolest three words I can ever think of hearing in an aircraft emergency are "say your intentions." Although we didn't hear it on this clip, it's ATC's response for an in-flight emergency, it gives you absolute autonomy to do whatever the PIC feels is necessary, and I think it's awesome. Another P.S.: Ever since I've been involved in EMS, I've always been slightly chilled whenever an air medical unit reported "souls on board." Definitely a gut check now that I'm in the industry.
  5. You should be posting drink-by-drink updates to this thread. That way, as the officers are learning about how certain levels of alcohol intoxication affect your behaviors, we can learn how it affects your posting on DZ.com! Elvisio "and, as I said, this is for posterity. So, please: be honest." Rodriguez
  6. As a whole, my job is better. But, you are right, tomorrow your job will rock. I have a friend whose husband is a cop and he has rallied volunteers from their circle of friends for similar exercises. In theirs, they did the math to try to get people to different blood alcohol levels and she said some of the guys who had volunteered for the higher BAL were WORKING. Cops were standing over them with stopwatches saying "you only have two more minutes to finish that beer, then you need to start on this one," stuff like that. Next time, I'm IN, I told her. Elvisio "might be the only time I can puke on a cop and not go to jail" Rodriguez
  7. Actually, I dig his writing style, I've read a few of the other threads on that site and he's had me laughing a few times. I might need to score one of his books to check it out... Elvisio "you know, quality reading" Rodriguez
  8. They're the perfect bottle opener after the sunset load. Elvisio "Not on my rig, but on my keychain" Rodriguez
  9. The hoop issue is probably, and the street hockey issue DEFINITELY is a liability issue for the city. The first time a kid gets run over chasing down a basketball or because they happened to be playing goalie facing away from an oncoming car, the family of the deceased will sue the crap out of the city for not having an ordinance that prohibited such an activity. And, in today's society, they'll win. We as skydivers know better than any subset of America that we live in a litigious society. Until we can convince our lawmakers that some kind of tort form is necessary, the problem will only get worse. Elvisio "gonna need a waiver to walk down the street soon" Rodriguez
  10. I'm probably guilty of being a "oneliner" on DZ.com. I find it impossible to not add stupid one line posts that I think are somehow funny and yet completely fail to add any value to the thread itself. Elvisio "such as this post" rodriguez EDIT: because no negatives make a positive
  11. Although it might be a little untoward to volunteer someone else to help, PM Billvon. He's a solar hero. Elvisio "hope to have some panels myself soon" Rodriguez
  12. Hell: In Before The Thermonuclear Mushroom Cloud Elvisio "duck and cover!" Rodriguez
  13. Yeah: glad I'm not him. Whoozit? Youzit? What was the outcome? Elvisio "MPF sitting still" Rodriguez
  14. Or, for that matter, the turtle's ears. Elvisio "maybe they got so infected they fell off" Rodriguez
  15. To Shell: One of the things I like about Chobani is how thick it is. Dumping out what is apparently the whey made it thicker. To NWFlyer: Ah, so that's whey. Okey dokey then. Elvisio "Where's little miss muffett?" Rodriguez
  16. So, I LOVE Chobani greek yogurt. Like, three or more servings a day, LOVE LOVE LOVE that stuff. But, once in a while I get a cup with that suspect clear watery liquid that's separated out from the rest of the yogurt. It hasn't gone bad (how can you tell?) or anything... I used to mix it in but nowadays I pour that out before mixing the rest. Elvisio "holla fo Chobani!" Rodriguez edit: for clarity, as if clarity mattered in such a post
  17. I'm going with the An-2. Elvisio "tired now" Rodriguez
  18. Dammit. My reputation precedes me... Nah, it's cool, I got a place. I'm in a hotel for the moment, but when I get back from a week-long company orientation I have a room waiting for me in Vail. It's a hike to the city for work, but it'll do short-term until I find a place to rent that is big enough for me, the wife, and our stuff. And maybe, just maybe, next weekend there will be enough time for a jaunt out to ELOY! Elvisio "WOo HOo!" Rodriguez
  19. Say WHAT? To correct: Elvisio hasn't jumped LATELY. It's been friggin' COLD, man! Don't you worry, elvisio will be in the air again soon... Elvisio "avoid cactii on landing at all costs..." Rodriguez
  20. Thanks for the offer, but it would have been the VERY VERY high road for me. Not that the company would not have been worth going that far out of my way for, mind you: it's just that my boss needs me in town to start my new gig. As I type this I'm sitting comfortably in Las Cruces, NM after a relatively short 8-ish hour jaunt. Today's scenery was much better than the past couple days: things have really dried out and it's finally looking like the Southwest SHOULD look. Got to sneak a peek at the honest to goodness Rio Gran-dee and the 80 mph speed limit in west Texas was SCHWEET! Tomorrow is a short four hour hop into Tucson, then the arduous task of finding a place to live can finally begin... Elvisio "anyone in Tucson want a squatter?" Rodriguez
  21. Today was Memphis to Abilene. Arkansas must have been named after Noah's boat, because it rained A LOT. It dried up by the time I hit Dallas. No traffic in Dallas, WOo HOo! Now, chilling in Abilene, watching some x-files on Netflix and contemplating tomorrow's drive: Abilene to Las Cruces, NM. Only 9 hours or a bit less, no problem... Elvisio "road warrior, I'm not" Rodriguez
  22. Greetings from Memphis! Old joke: a couple newbie pilots are setting up to land their Cessna 152. As they turn on final, one says to the other "Holy CRAP that runway is short!" On touchdown, they both stand on the brakes and nearly flip the aircraft, coming to a halt with just inches to spare. "WOW," the first says, "That HAS to be the shortest runway I've ever seen!" "Ayuh," agreed the second as he looked out each side window "but DANG if it isn't wide!" That's how I feel about Tennessee. Not too long, but DAMN is it wide. And I took the long way through the state from Knoxville to Memphis. Chilling here tonight, then on to Abilene tomorrow... Elvisio "time for hot wings" Rodriguez EDIT: Gramamar
  23. I roll out of Virginia at 0600 tomorrow. It's going to be rough leaving the wife behind while I forge on to start the new job. It really started to feel "real" just a few moments ago when I took my house key off my keyring. Tucson, here I come! I'll post updates to this thread, if anybody's listening... Elvisio "ground control to major tom" Rodriguez
  24. Okay then, they roll with me. Elvisio "it's all good, I guess" Rodriguez
  25. Cool. I have maybe 100 rounds of .45 ACP and a few hundred rounds of 7.62 x 39. The rifles are an OLD Enfield that is really more of a curio piece than anything I'd cycle a lot of ammo through and an SKS. The pistol is a single stack Ruger P90, no modifications. EDIT: I just spent a moment reading the link from Ryoder. I guess it sounds like (given that one firearm is an SKS) I'll take the ammunition with me (the movers have ammo on their "we won't move it" list) and EITHER let them move the handguns OR have my wife take the firearms to an FFL once I get out there. Elvisio "ready to get the show on the road" Rodriguez
