I still don't think America will be ready to elect an openly gay president in 4 years. Or even 8. A woman will be elected first, I think. But he should keep running, as should other gay candidates until the sexuality of the candidates isn't even an issue any more because it's just normal that any field would have several women or gays in it. Once that normalization happens only then will we see one of those two groups elected, I think.

We KNOW Trump's MO will be to go full-out attack mode once a single likely candidate comes up, so forcing him to spread that vitriol out for as long as possible might actually work well for the Dems if the voting strategy really is 'anyone but Trump' for a lot of Americans.

Independently my wife and I both came to the conclusion yesterday that we need to lay in a stock of water and food, just in case. I'm still curious if any panic buying starts. Nothing crazy. No 50 gallon drums of rice, or 20,000 rounds of ammo. But some fresh water, a water purifier and enough food in case stuff shuts down for a week or two. We've been told for years that because we're in an earthquake zone it's a good idea to have stuff like this on hand, so it'll keep us for a while.

Hillary is unelectable because of her history. Buttgieg is unelectable because of his sexuality. Warren is probably unelectable because of her gender. Bernie almost certainly unelectable because 'socialism'. That's simply the way I see America right now. It's great to talk about gay rights, or empowering women, but there are hundreds of millions of people who simply aren't ready for that yet. Standing as a candidate is a good start in normalizing those attitudes for the future though.
