It's not surprising, really, given that gaining citizenship is such a big deal to how your situation changes as an immigrant once it's granted, and given there's an exam with a section on the constitution on it. You go through a lot just to get to that point, so you don't want to fluff it. I suspect that as a naturalized American it's easy for people to pick and choose the bits of it they associate with and disregard the rest - so they can be extremely passionate about 2nd amendment rights but not really give a shit about the 5th, for example, because it doesn't directly affect them (until it does ). But that's not the way it works - You can't say 'my guns are protected by the 2nd but those protesters need to be shut up'... And out of interest, can anyone link to anyone suggesting that 2nd amendment rights should be changed since this pandemic started? I've heard Trump say 'They're coming to take your guns' in pretty much every rally he gives, but he's full of shit and panders to his base without any evidence so I generally ignore him. Has anyone with any credibility mixed the corona virus pandemic / the recent racism protests and gun ownership? I've not seen it, but I might have missed something.

National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?
yoink replied to normiss's topic in Speakers Corner
This is a perfect example of the problem. This solidarity even in the face of brutal behavior is what needs to be broken. -
So the solution to having a hard job is systemic racism, brutality and inequality? Or do you not believe that’s actually a thing?
-
NOT WHEN YOU ARE LEGALLY PROTESTING. Jesus Christ. Does the first amendment mean nothing to you? I'm starting to think that as an immigrant I'm the only person in this country who's read the constitution. Half the time Trump tweets I'm saying to myself 'you can't do that.... legally. Seriously.' You should be fighting to protect these people as strongly as you fight to protect your 2nd amendment rights - You've held the constitution up as an inviolate document before on that issue... Instead, now you're coming up with excuses based on what you IMAGINE these people MIGHT possibly do in the future, all video evidence to the contrary, in order to protect the team you associate with, you massive fucking hypocrite.
-
But he didn't read it - that's the point. After the first sentence he gets to ignore everything that comes after because it's a 'deliberate far left hit job'. And he ALSO get to have an opinion on it, DESPITE not reading it. Magic.

A lot of what he does is shot in ultra slow motion. his one is an exception. His video on the Prince Ruperts' Drop and the Archers' Paradox are some of my favorites., -
Nothing about this is a protest. (NSFW Racial Expletives)

I can see the cleverness in it if I wanted to propagate the violence, but I wouldn’t use the world ‘brilliant’, because that would suggest that I approve of it... it has that type of connotation for me. -
In a surprise to absolutely no one after his statement yesterday about not knowing the purpose of the church walk and categorically denying that the US military would be deployed against citizens. Defy Trump, get fired. The equation is a very simple one.

Are you Americans crazy enough to put Donald Trump in office?
yoink replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
My litmus test is simple. If I already know what a poster will post before they post it then there’s no value in me reading their replies. I literally wrote an rushmc script that would automatically create his posts from a standard set of replies. Turtle’s is a little more complicated than that because he plays everything as a question that he can later deny while simultaneously claiming to be more neutral and less biased than anyone else, but it’s still within the realm of programmable responses. Hence the block. I had Kallend blocked for a while because all he posted was anti-Trump one liners. -

Even if it WERE true , why would you laud it? That would be unnecessary criminal damage perpetrated by Trump supporters. -
I've been looking for that for a while. Thanks!

He uses a Phantom v2511 camera for most of his stuff and those start at $150,000. So I'm not sure I agree with your statement about it being cheap.;) -
The definition of ‘conservative’ for people like Turtle. What was conservative for people like George Will is now ‘moderate’. ‘Conservative’ now means what ‘Far Right’ used to. It‘s how people justify beliefs that they would have been pilloried for a decade ago.

Edit: Deleted so as not to respond to Turtle.

All media use attention grabbing headlines. That's how they get you to read the story. If your brain reads this one and immediately goes to 'they wrote this headline to deliberately incite anarchy' that says more about your state of mind than it does the Post. Maybe chill out on the conspiracy theories a bit - you're on the road to becoming Ron.

Fixed it for you, you know, for that whole pesky factual accuracy thing that you struggle with. -

Why? Why do you even bother at this point? -

At least he’s finally adhering to social distancing. -

Wow... That’s a hell of a leap. And a pretty much unprovable one I suspect. For which you’d kill a guy. -
What happens if the Supreme Court backs Trump’s bogus (in this scenario) claim? He’s stacked that deck too, remember? In that case the military brass probably follow the orders of the ‘legitimate’ president, Trump. What the rank and file do is anyone’s guess. Strange days.
-
That's what's scary about it. It's certainly not likely but you can actually imagine it happening with this president and his cronies. It's no secret he wants to be a dictator. It would be challenged in the supreme court of course, but the country is in a shit state of affairs when you have to HOPE that the supreme justices of the land put law first and politics and power second.

When it comes to manipulation and weaseling Trump and his team are experts. Remember, he's UTTERLY selfish - he doesn't give a shit about any current events except through the lens of how it effects him in November. Everything he's doing now is focused on that election. He's doing whatever he can to set the ground for de-legitimizing the result of that election if he loses. Fake mail-in ballots, 'manipulation' by the press and social media and any other excuse he can set up at this point to give him a platform for saying to his base 'it was a corrupt and unfair election' if he loses. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he refuses to abide by the result of the election result if it goes badly for him, at which point we have the biggest constitutional crisis in history and the scene being set for massive riots across the country. Think of communes like Ron's - what would they do if Trump refused to step down after losing the election citing 'Democrats conspiring with China to rig the election' and was forcibly removed from office and Biden put in there?

Killer Mike delivering a powerful and eloquent speech on the 'protests' in Atlanta. Well said. -
His MO has always been to sue companies that threaten him in some way. He’s used to them backing down because he’s a bully. I suspect Twitter and Facebook have MORE than enough capital to fight that legally if he does it, all the way to the Supreme Court, where he’ll lose. I’d love it if Twitter banned him for a week just to annoy him.

Go on fella, I’ll bite. Do tell me how your TA-50 is going to help you get dirty and fight the professional hacker sitting in an cubicle in Beijing. Because that’s the situation we’re talking about. Digital denial of infrastructure.
