Nah, they were on the 23rd. Bay Area was what, Mar 17th, with the rest of us in CA on the 19th? I'm not sure who was first.

The last time I saw the rate of increase map my area was in the 3-5 days range. It's now in the 5-7. Fingers crossed this indicates the stay at home order is working.

China 'willfully inflicted coronavirus upon the world'
yoink replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
The Chinese government would have told them to fuck off and deny them ANY data? -

Americans file for bankruptcy, a wave is coming

That’s great news. Seriously. Insurance companies are second only to ambulance chasers in my list of most distasteful and untrustworthy professions. -

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that health insurance providers find some way to minimize the amounts they cover for a Covid-19 associated treatment. Something like an 'unknown diseases aren't covered' clause. -
This is EXACTLY my point. Chemistry is complicated and different compounds can sound very similar while having very different effects. That's why we don't need someone with a room temperature IQ handing out advice. It needs very clear and consistent communication, which is Trump's weakest trait. If Joe Public tweets something that's one thing - follow advice of random tweets at your own risk, but we KNOW there are people who inherently trust what the President says, whoever it is, without fact checking. To me that would be a massive responsibility. Trump doesn't even recognize the fact, let alone alter his behavior based on it.
-
In my mind Trump is directly responsible for the death of the guy who used unmedicated hydroxychloroquine and should be charged for it. Tweeting random shit is one thing, but medical advice from a president will ALWAYS have people believing it’s the truth. Trump has no clue as to that responsibility.

He's a buffoon, and a fucking moron about the EU, But I think he honestly thinks he has the best for the British people in mind which is more than can be said for Trump. Personally I'd rather be in the UK than the US right now. The UK measures are mandated country wide, more stringent, and I've been incredibly proud of the Blitz mentality the UK are showing in dealing with it. I honestly think that culturally Brits quite enjoy coming together in times of crisis. That's exactly what the US needs, and exactly what it's currently crap at. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-52058013 We get together with our neighbors over the street every Friday for a drink. Covid-19 ain't going to stop that.

volunteers needed to gather data for a new covid-19 diagnosis technique
yoink replied to SivaGanesha's topic in The Bonfire
I’ve been surprised by how easily people are sending their genetic code into the family-tracing services. Your biometric data is literally the only thing that’s genuinely yours. I wouldn’t share that easily. -

I'd need to know more before I'd do it. Individual voice prints are a form of biometric data, and I'd need to be assured that the data was depersonalized, secure, and understand his methodology. It's not something I'd choose to give to an individual. I'd think to do this you'd need samples of the same people before AND after they've contracted it to draw conclusions. Seems sketchy to me. Or at best, risky. -
Time, causality and the physical laws of the universe as we understand them disagree with you. Not UNDERSTANDING what the cause of an effect was doesn't mean that it didn't exist. It's easy to say 'I don't see any link between X and Y therefore there isn't any', but that ain't the way reality works.

This is like watching a 12 year old try and solve a nuclear meltdown.

And Trump's lawyers have already ordered an immediate cease and desist order for channels carrying this ad.

Look for hilarious tweets from Trump tomorrow. NO ONE DEFIES ME!!

And this is where I mute Turtle. You’ve taken a single post, by a single inconsequential person about one other individual and have not only used that to demonize tens of MILLIONS of other unrelated people, but have, in your own frenzy, somehow made it that every democrat wishes every Republican dead. That’s batshit crazy levels of fiction. You need to step away from the keyboard and chill out, dude. Your absurd hyperbole and trolling is boring and repetitive.

You have just described yourself, to a tee. You're blind to your own bias.

Says the guy trying to label an entire voting demographic because of a single post from a single person. Pot. Meet kettle.

Firstly, if you want to tar 65 million people because of one thing I said, go for it. I don't care. It just shows how intellectually dishonest and lazy you are. The guy is rich, white and privileged (and a prick). The liklihood of him 'suffering' because of becoming infected is pretty low. Don't make me laugh with your bullshit crocodile tears for him. Secondly, I've stated on this form a few times that I'm not a typical 'left' voter, but rather that I'm very much a centrist, as you claim to be. So if you're going to associate my statement with any group, it should probably be your own... How could you? What a MEAN thing to believe! Don't you understand the prick's SUFFERING???

That’s not been shown yet. We don’t know if any vaccine will be like a measles one, that you get once and you’re good, or a flu one that you need a different variant of every year.

But we're past that. By the time enough kits have been manufactured to test the working population almost everyone will have been exposed anyway, because people are shit at self deprivation over long time frames. And the rate of production of the kits and testing would have to match the rate of infection - which I doubt. Plus we don't even know if it's possible to re-contract this particular virus. Don't get me wrong - I think testing is good and useful. I just don't think it's the priority. We missed that chance. Right now the priority should be on survival, not recovery - How do we distribute food to a populace that shouldn't go and get it? How do we maintain the mental health of a population in shut-in environment*? How do we facilitate this self isolation thing? How do we prepare the health system for an influx of cases? Personally all of those would take precedence. *I've worked from home for the last 5 or 6 years, and it can get lonely. Seriously. For people who are used to interacting with dozens of people a day to suddenly go to ONLY mixing with their family, it's a huge risk of depression that isn't being considered.

Of course I have. But that curve relates to the rate of INFECTION, not the rate of detection. 6 weeks ago identifying carriers and isolating them would have had a measurable effect on the hospitalization rate. Getting ahead of the infection by identifying exactly who has it and isolating them specifically would have made a big difference. Right now, with all the ‘stay at home’ orders, identifying EXACTLY who has the virus is less important because that ship has sailed. The social isolation orders are a poorer form of the same thing - trying to get carriers isolated, but it's probably too late for that in terms of stopping the spread. If you present with a fever, shortness of breath and persistent cough you’ve probably got it and should go to hospital. If you don’t have those symptoms EVEN if you are tested and found to carry it, then you stay at home. Testing right now is data corroboration of our models and it makes people feel good. At this point the social isolation orders and people sticking to them are the most important thing. Data on exactly who carries it is a nice to have, but like I said, it makes people feel as though something useful is being done.
-
I'm not all that convinced what use testing is at this point. It would have been great 6 weeks ago, but the liklihood is 60-80% of the population are going to contract this thing.

Good. Fucking prick.
