I only registered to vote for the first time last election and am currently a registered Democrat, simply because I'd like them to put forward who I consider to be the strongest candidate against Trump. Until the 2016 election I always thought the two parties were mostly even in terms of how unprincipled they are. Swings and roundabouts. I always knew Trump in office would be a shitshow, but I never guessed how quickly the Republican party would jump on the 'fuck absolutely everyone if it gives me, personally, power' bandwagon. Once Trump is out of office my party affiliation might well change. As I've said before on this forum, in somethings I'm profoundly liberal, in others, very conservative.

Apologies. I thought I'd made that post in this thread where Turtle was complaining about Pelosi's behavior. Going back and reviewing I see that it was as part of the DNC allowing Bloomberg to run conversation.

I’m a bit confused as to your position here to be honest, but either way I’m not sure it’s fair to use my words to argue with Jakee. In that argument I WAS actually talking specifically about the theatricality of ripping up stacks of paper. Trump has shown that childish theatrics get results, and it doesn’t surprise me that the Democrats have chosen to sink to that level - a little disappointing, but not surprising. He’s ALSO shown that outright lying and corruption works too, but I hope the Democrats don’t throw those principles away. As always there’s a graduation of possibilities. I believe that in order to be competitive in this particular election the Democrats need to fight fiercely and a bit childishly, but not necessarily ‘dirty’. That’s why it was a question. What principles would you give up to win? That’s not the same as saying you have to give them ALL up.
-
Seriously? That's the best you've got? That wasn't even an acceptable comeback at grade school. But it does show that discussing the issue with you is utterly pointless. Your belief is based in a faith that you WANT to believe because you have an agenda. Not in any actual, factual, reported discernible facts.

Pot. Meet kettle.

Lots of shootings aren’t even reported anymore. They’re not even newsworthy.

Because moderate republicans are more likely to vote for an old, rich white guy than a young gay one? Is that a trick question? Ask yourself this. Is it better to stick to your principles and lose, or to compromise and win? The Republican Party have shown that they’re about winning at ANY cost and the Democrats will have to change to compete with that philosophy.

Do it. It would be great to keep a tally of the 'good guy with a gun' incidents vs 'idiot with a gun' ones. But you won't. Because you know EXACTLY how that tallies out.
-
You can’t have it both ways. How hard is this to get? It’s EITHER an uncontrolled action OR a planned one. The two are mutually exclusive. You’re the only person who seems not to understand this simple concept.

Or, you know, doing his job.

Trump. Almost certainly. I was saying last night to some friends that the more important elections will be the Senate and House ones. Honestly, that’s part of the message the DNC candidates should all be pushing right now.

My favorite headline: DNC loses in Iowa caucus. I agree with just using paper votes. Until there’s cash available to make proper, secure and reliable voting machines, just don’t use them for something this important.
-
I want to hear the truth but voted no witnesses... eh?
-
Is this a DNC specific requirement, or does the Republican party have the same thing? I get where the intent is, but one of the only things I got excited about for Trump was the idea of him NOT being funded by anyone else. If Bloomberg can do it, I'm OK with it.
-
I think if he says to camera or twitter that ‘term limits shouldn’t apply to him’, or asks his team to look into changing term limits, that’s enough of an indication of his intent. Its obvious that we’re going to need a third party to arbitrate this because you can ALWAYS say ‘he’s just joking’ until a law has passed.
-
Cue anyone who is appalled that our senators put their party before their constitutional duty. Not you, obviously.
-
I thought he'd have to have had to lobby seriously to make it so that crimes don't apply to him, too....
-
Cool. We're agreed that I don't lose if Trump loses the election, right? (Not that I think he will).
-
The Senate confirming that Trump can do whatever he wants and that they'll back him in any situation is pretty fucking dire. You think he's done some shady shit before? Now he knows he can get away with anything they've essentially told him it's fine to openly cheat in the 2020 elections. That's his personality. I hope y'all like living in Russian-style oligarchies... Putin has already made a move to make it so that term limits don't apply to him... I bet you $100 Trump will do the same after the next election.

There are a bunch of veggie recipes from a UK chef here, for those who might be interested. https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes-in/veg?page=1 Tonight I’ll be making this one: https://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/baked-butternut-squash-with-leeks-and-hazelnuts

Precisely. From what I've seen the nutritional values of plant-based burgers vs real meat ones are similar, but one has more processing, saturated fat and salt in it, the other is less sustainable but has more protein. I'll stick with eating the second thanks. Just less of them. Personally there is no place in my diet for plant-based meat yet.

They've made baby steps in Congress, but it's not enough. But, yes, I agree. Remove the ability from both and have the same system in each to let bills with support go for a vote. A temper tantrum you say? Again, can you provide a link to that? Every time I've seen her she looks remarkably more presidential than the fuming toddler that is Trump. It's looking more and more like you just don't like strong women in power. If that's your bias, fair enough. But your justifications are pretty weak so far.

A system that allows the Electoral College is damaged, and broken.

We're doing 2 days a week vegetarian only as of the start of this year. It's taking a little effort and I'm definitely struggling with the 'it doesn't LOOK like a proper meal' mental problem, but other than that it's not too bad. There are actually some decent veggie only recipes out there. The vegetarian paella I did last week was really tasty and filling.

Removing the ability of the speaker of the house to personally schedule what bills are voted on would fix McConnell and everyone after. Simple fix and it only hurts one power hungry person while improving our democracy. I still don't understand your hostility to Pelosi - would you care to explain?
