Not even a little. Closing borders because there’s a fucking pandemic is a little different to closing borders because the people coming across it are brown and poor.

All NBA games indefinitely suspended.

Bet you $50 that Trump tweets about it and states that it's a stitch-up of some sort. Probably by the leftist MSM.

I'm not impossible. I just want an equal and well thought out standard. If he's barring all travel from the EU, then that's fine. But barring all travel and then exempting the UK because Boris Johnson is a mate just shows that this isn't a considered and planned reaction - it's a show for the media, because you're not including the third largest airport in the entire world, even though you should... And when you then apply that thought process to 'undergoing appropriate screenings' for returning US citizens you start to think that maybe they don't actually have a plan, and are making it up on the spot when a journalist asks the question. I hate thinking our government is this STUPID. I really do. And I get why you're thinking we're impossible, because you don't think that... But given the last 3 years I can't think any other way and my retort to 'you people are impossible' has to be 'you're naive if you think this is a well thought out plan'.

All travel from Europe (excluding UK) to US is now suspended for 30 days. Wow. From ‘not a problem’ to ‘holy shit’ in record time. Someone should probably tell the administration that viruses don’t respect ‘special relationships’, btw...

Moderate Left or Trump style ultra-far right. Who would you vote for, Brent?
-
That'd work(ish) as long as Party candidates are broadly aligned to party goals. The DNC probably fucked up letting Bernie run as a Democrat. He's not. And he's proudly not. A Biden/Bernie Presidency (or the other way around) would be mired in dissent even before any legislature got proposed to the house or senate.

Please ignore this. My math was insanely wrong. It's about 5%. No idea how I screwed that up so badly. DO NOT go out and panic buy toilet paper!

So Italy is under quarantine. All of Italy. Some 60 million people. 'Stay home and seek permission for essential travel.' So yeah, I get why people are buying bog roll. Their reported cases vs mortality ratio is nearly 20%, which is insane. What we obviously don't know is how many people catch it and don't get reported, but that's why people are being told to stay home - until science has an idea about stuff like this.

I actually remember seeing that back in the early days of ebay. 2004 or 5 I think. From what I remember it was a decommissioned British carrier that was eventually de-listed as it was classed as 'ordinance'.

That'll secure the nomination for Biden, I suspect. I might be off in my reckoning, but I think what most average Democratic voters want for the next 4 years isn't a protracted fight about gun rights, or healthcare, or abortion, or any of the typical 'lefty issues'; it's simply to steady the ship and have an end to the absolute insanity of the current President and the new type of politics. Under Trump the established government social rules have been changed. Openly lying is OK. Corruption, racism, bigotry and vice are acceptable. Communication in 128 characters of less is the appropriate channel from the ultimate authority. Loyalty to the CIC is more important than honesty and integrity to the country... I think voters are uncomfortable with this change to their understanding of what 'politics' was and how the game was played, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them vote for the old establishment for this election, just to get back to a set of rules they understand. Bernie is almost too far in the opposite direction generally, and a female VP would be another 'change' to the old and comfortably understood rules. When your car is on fire and pissing gas everywhere, it's probably the wrong time to start thinking about improving engine efficiency and installing eco-friendly seat covers, is all I'm saying.

. Edit. Stupid triple post

I hear 5.56 is absolutely the best ammo to use against the virus.

Looks like it's very country dependent. In the UK, Japan is catagorized as a Cat 2 risk - so unless you go to a hospital, have contact with someone who is already diagnosed, or have specific symptoms you don't need to isolate yourself. That said, I do understand her co-workers position.

Who the fuck uses banknotes anymore? You'll be telling me you have a landline and buy physical newspapers next.

They took some pretty draconian measures though. I’m not sure they’d be successful in the US, for example.
-
No surprise there. I’m guessing he thought Biden would collapse and he’d pick up those voters.

Personally, I'd rather take reasonable precautions than be all 'it's nothing. It's no worse than a cold.' then get it, transmit it to someone vulnerable then feel guilty if they get hospitalized. It's probably too late to prevent it spreading throughout the US. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to take precautions though - as I had the argument with my boss yesterday. So personally, until we know more about it, I'm limiting my contact with big touristy areas and am not flying. It's not panic. But it's a considered response.

Not even remotely the same. Do you think Hillary didn't get elected because of her politics???
-
Do you ever get tired of applying labels to people? What are you defining as 'progressive'? Who are the 'progressives' in your statement?
-
It's a bit of a Hobson's choice for Democrats like me. You've got Bernie, who I think will be every bit as divisive as Trump and will continue to push politics into ever more extremely polarizing factions, but I suspect has the potential to actually get his voters ACTUALLY OUT and voting on the day. Something Democrats have struggled with in the past. Or you've got Biden, who comes with so much Obama baggage that it'll enervate the Conservative voters and I suspect a lot of the younger Bernie ones simply won't bother voting for as he very much represents a status quo. Or you've got Bloomberg who is probably the most centrist candidate with the possibility to gain moderate votes from both sides, but comes with massive electoral issues from 'stop and frisk', to the 'suggested abortion' stuff and obviously his wealth. All of which will be a turn off to left leaning voters. It's a bit of a mess, for me, at least.
