Actually, I've started to think that I would really like to see this guy meet Aggiedave

I've done a couple of cross country jumps. No problem finding our way back, you could see the airport from 13 miles out (of course Walterboro is a big airport) A cell phone is probably a good idea. We went out 13 miles and flew back 7.

Effect of Cutaway on Emergency Procedures
JeffGordon replied to Cajones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know what you mean about the new canopy thing. When I first got my new stilleto, it spun up on me and I was way low when I got kicked out of it. Had to land in a really tight area near power lines. In retrospect, I probably should have chopped it, I probably would have, if it weren't so new. -
Can I go?

Actually I think they are the same. A hate crime is a hate crime is a hate crime. Burning a cross or assaulting a homosexual or solder are only variations of degree. Anyone who would assault a homosexual (because of his homosexuality) would work a a death camp in a culture (like nazi germany) that used death camps (edited to add quote cause this was in reply to a post several post back)

I agree that shooting up a bunch of assholes like that is a little too extreme. I was actually using a hyperbole to make a point. The point is that what these teenagers did is an assault. They may be teenagers but 19 is a teenager. 19 is old enough to go into combat. Just read the casualty lists. Paying for dings in a car is not justice in this case and in fact the state of Vermont agrees with that. You are old enough and I am old enough to remember Vietnam vets being spit at and assaulted. I had friends who were attacked and beaten because they wore their uniform to the wrong place. What could have happened to this young woman if they had pushed it a little farther?

One could make the argument that rock throwing constitutes assault with a deadly weapon and therefore deadly force is appropriate

My first night jump another jumper on the same load landed curseing. Somebody asked what's wrong and he said "This is my f**king reserve". No way you could find all his stuff in the dark right? Well hi main landed right in front of him and the free bag right beside him. Lucky guy.

Broke an arm and later a leg doing exactly that when I was about 12 or so

From FOXNews This shit makes me FURIOUS. I'm all for free speech, Protest the war if you want, lie down in the street and block traffic, hell burn the fucking flag but this shit is ASSAULT. I applaud this young lady's reaction, but if I had been there somebody would have gotten hurt!

Real TV and "Expert Skydivers'...My rant....
JeffGordon replied to LawnDart21's topic in Safety and Training
Speaking of skydiving on tv, I saw a clip on AFV where a guy made a beach landing and his canopy fell on a seal. The seal got wrapped in the lines and started lunging toward the water almost dragging the jumper with him. I was laughing out loud yelling "CUT AWAY MAN CUT AWAY" -
Reflections on my reserve ride
JeffGordon replied to skymama's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just out of curiosity, how would you do that? -
Great news!! Tell curly and the gang hey.

I get end cell closure on my stilleto (~1.4) quite a bit. Just pump rear risers and I'm good to go.
-
I make a habit of tying a loose not in the bridle just above the closing pin after I cock my pc. That way, it won't come uncocked when I put it in the bag. If I ever start to close and don't see the knot, it is pretty obvious, and I will double check the indicator.

Splatwings, Spinettos, 9 cell, 7 cell Canopies and more...
JeffGordon replied to akaGQ's topic in The Bonfire
What kinda S&*@ is this? THe damn thing doesn't even pack itself! At least the Spinetto will occasionally try to pack itself (when you are flying it.) -
Billy Carter at Skydive Walterboro. He is not only a great DZO but one of the finest men I have ever met.

I don't get it
-
It looks like the connector is stripped. It seems more likely that this would occur when tighting rather than by being snatched when opening.
-
I agree. It take a lot of time to untangle from the corn all the time thinking "I hope this guy isn't going to shoot me" and "I wonder which way I need to go to get out of here"

traffic stop on route to DZ
JeffGordon replied to Mixoligist's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I drive through Cottageville to get to the dz. Cottageville has three streets and six cops. Most of the skydivers I know who have driven through there have gotten a ticket at one time or another. -

Do you have any data on fall rates, horizontal speed, etc. Did he accelerate past his free fall speed?
