Part of this, I think, is a false impression of what an emergency in skydiving is. Most new jumpers have a very rosy impression of a mal - they will look up, note a lineover, pull their cutaway handle, take a nice 2 second delay that feels just like a balloon jump, open their reserve, and land after a (short) surf in the peas. After all, that's what their training led them to believe. And while that happens sometimes, far often mals are spinning, messy, high speed things that require good reactions and, sometimes, help from your gear. ...sometimes you need a bit of luck too!

As this was an accident I take it the DZ is going to pay for this. However, if, hypothetically, the Birdman had been lurking the aircraft and caused the damage through negligent flying could he/she be held responsible for the damage? Would USPA/BPA cover anything like this. Technically you have caused damage to someone else's property through a skydiving accident - would 3rd party insurance come into play?

People like you are the reason I hate working in an office! :)
-
Well you'd know all about spunk considering your freeflying is a pile of wank!
-
This is taken from the cobalt web site - they seem to disagree with you on the definition of a streamer. "Deployment height depends on airspeed and loading but is typically in the range of 800-1000'. " Not being arsey, just though I'd post what Atair say.

Yer at Reading prison - I know because I used to live down the road from there. But it begs the question - what the f*ck r u doing there?
-
Skreamer This is the thanks I get for jumping with you last weekend and imparting all my freefly skills onto you. You just take the piss... cheers buddy.
-
On a separate note - how do you guys find the openings in terms of speed on the cobalt. Do they take 1000ft plus or can you get them opening quicker than that. What height do you reach for the handle to pull?

I have afeeling that the more I make my excuses the more the piss will be ripped out of me so I'm just going to leave it at the above disclaimer. Nice weather, eh?

Ok, embarrasing moment time - I read the post in a rush and thought it was what do men like women to wear!! I'm glad I came back into this post to check the updates - if I'd left it like it was some serious questions would have been asked. Once more, just to confirm - I misread the post. There, all clear! Now, I'm off to www.ilikenakedladies.com. *skulks off in embarrassment*

If you go into gear annd rigging you'll find the companion post to this one, by billbooth: 'Is your poop chute correctly made'

> Freebag.... the entire point of the freebag design is even in the case of a Reserve Horseshoe it will cleanly deploy the reserve. The theory behind the wide bridle is that it can catch air and liftthe freebag too. There is not much keeping the lines stowed to the freebag. Easy to pop them with just a shake of the freebag. >_____________________________________________ Er, they may be designed this way but I can personally attest to the fact that you cannot rely on it. I had reserve pilot chute on one side of my leg, freebag on the other and bridle both underneath my leg and flapping round my arm. Nothing was going to come out of that freebag until my body position changed and the pilot chute caught air and pulled the bridal free. For the full story with all the gory details do a search on one of these forums. Stay safe & pull stable!

This is known as Computer User Non-Technical (work out the acronym for yourself). My, geeks are funny aren't they?
-
Can't give you any technical details other than the things looks beautiful when it is above your head :) All I can do is compare the Techno 128 i have used to a Microraven 150 I used. Tecnho felt more like a parachute than the Microraven. Microraven was sluggish in the turns. Also the Techno gave me a great surf and stand up landing however I felt as though I had enough control to land it anywhere. Must admit that these differnces may be due to the size and age of the canopies. MR 150 was about 8 yrs old where as the techno was 10 months old. Would I buy a Techno again - definitey. P.S. It was repacked by an American rigger!

I hate the Odyssey logo - it's just too much IMO. Prefer the simple word Javelin with a javelin through it!
-
What happened to the Stiletto 135 - was that just too tame for ya. Or does the Crossfire fly better in a 2 out situation
-
Longer riser covers than the original javelin and a quilted backpad for extra comfort. The relocated lateral straps are the dogs bollox though - the rig just does not slip and slide all over your back no matter what position you're in.
-
To all the people that have had a spinning mal, did u just go through the procedures or did you cutaway, get stable and then pull reserve? Just curious for some reason...
-
Because it is easier for him to wind people up on here - eh Mr. 3?
-
Didn't you go down this route a while ago - I'm sure things got kind o' nasty. P.S. How was Spain?
-
I jumped at Langar for a couple of years getting thro RAPS. Does Chris Winder still jump there - I did see pics of him SkySurfing. And what happened to mad Matt who used to work in the kitchen a couple of years ago. He did freefly stuff and I think he might have gone of travelling.
-
Hold on a minute there - where did this Elsinore for 3 months thing come from???? This is the sort of thing you dream about around the bonfire while sipping at your Corona (spit, spit). You don't actually live the dream, baby.
