I leave my slider down by the risers until almost the end. After I've flaked my tail, then I walk down and grab the slider. I quarter it down at the bottom and then grab it by the center and drag it up, this keeps it quartered and it ends up exactly where it needs to be when the grommets hit the stops. Then I do my tape-gate and direct control. Clean up the flaked tail I slightly disturbed, and then finish up the packjob pulling the tail down to the bottom, and the rest of CR's recommendations of tailskin wraparound, yada yada, stow the lines, etc. . For me, I feel the direct control works better to keep the slider uptop until inflation begins so it can do its job. I've heard (but never dealt with) the slider sliding straigt down prematurely. No issues I'm aware of with direct control on large hole. I use it with no problems. one last tidbit... I like to use whats called "direct control" by some of the slider. Larkshead a thin rubberband to one of your inner C lines, all the way up top. Then take a bite of your slider with it to keep the slider all the way up until inflation begins. I've also triend putting the larkshead a bit lower on the line (still keeping the slider grommets all the way up to the stops) leaving room for a masking-tape-gate above the slider. BASE used to be a "fix". So was skydiving. When I found BASE I pretty much left skydiving. Now they are both just some of the things I enjoy doing in life, without searching for a fix. That first skydive after BASE jumping... remember it? For me it sucked. Stupid, slow, boring. That's because I was waiting for some rush rather than taking advantage of that flight. For me, once I got over my thirst for a fix, I was able to come back to skydiving and enjoy flying my body. Granted, I don't skydive nearly as much anymore, but its now fun again when I get out there. The same feeling is with BASE. I'm not itching for a jump (just to jump) anymore. I'll make a jump as long as I don't have to schedule the rest of life around it. I enjoy BASE (in fact I love this shit), but it doesnt DEFINE my existance.
