I know 4 that didn't look for jack until the very end also. My lazy ass cousin surprised me though. He found a new job after 4 weeks. I thought for sure he would ride those checks till the very end. While there are indeed moral dilemmas for some in riding unemployment, the fact remains it's not illegal unless they are working under the table. Depending on how much they are getting versus how they'd make at a new job minus travel, food, and other work related expense it may make economic sense to not work until it runs out. Perhaps rather than give unemployment, which essentially is rewarding people for not working, we simply call in transition and make it a fixed time length after being laid off, regardless of their future employment. If they get another job before it runs out, it helps them possibly catch up on bills or even get ahead. Obviously there would need to be some sort of protections put in place so people couldn't just get laid off and collect every time they changed jobs. Which should be BEFORE EVERY JUMP. Your AAD can suddenly show an error, a blank screen, the wrong mode, wrong alti, or be turned off. If you continue to jump a rig throughout the day after just checking it ONCE, you´re asking for bad stuff to happen to you And here is yet another contradictory thing as the general thinking with an AAD has been "set it and forget it." Perhaps a simple audible alert could be added to an AAD if it fires. It'd have two purposes: * To prevent a rig from accidently being used if the AAD has fired the cutter but for some reason the reserve did not deploy. * Assist in location of a jumper whose AAD has fired. Would be especially useful if they landed in trees or perhaps water or maybe a night jump. Since making that post, I've been informed that for a cutter "lock" to cause an issue with manually deploying the reserve, the AAD would have needed to already fired. My initial concern was with the AAD interfering with a normal reserve deployment that occurred prior to the AAD firing. While the likelihood of a cutter "locking" is extremely limited the chance of the jumper attempting to pull their reserve at a survivable height after is most likely even moreso. It's simply a matter of non riggers not aware of the possible faiilure mode. Like most I ASS-U-ME-d prior that an AAD cutter had no other possible impact on deployment other than to cut or not cut. This doesn't mean something has to be done to change things, but possibly more known.

Instead of sniping, why not tell us where YOU would make the cuts that make additional revenues unnecessary? With actual numbers, not tea party hot air. no...religion has taught us that is not true. How has religion taught us this? Some religions says to "do this and not do that" or go to hell. Many believe this with all their mind yet they "don't do this and do that." btw, I'm not a fan of religion...at least not in the sense of legalism. I believe in grace through fatih...it is more of a relationship. Name one religion where people are empowered to think for themselves and take responsibility for their own actions/inactions. I have while in relationships masturbated about the one I was with. Masturbation is much more "goal oriented" then sex and fantasizing about others can get you to that goal quicker without impacting your "travel times" when having sex. If there were/are such rigs that an AAD failure would prevent the reserve ripcord from being pulled by the jumper or prevent the reserve from opening, the rig needs to be grounded, not the AAD.

The last thing we need is a tax hike to create an extra $x in revenue that is then used to justify a new or expanded social program costing $1.5x. Ummm we need the extra revenue now to pay for programs already in existence and which have such strong constituencies that cutting them is next to impossible (Defense, Social Security and Medicare). Agreed, but if the tax hike is used to justify new programs we can actually be worse off. Ex: A tax hike creates $500 million in additional revenue. Some congressional bozos use that increase as reason to push through a few expansions of existing programs and/or new programs which total $750 million. We're now $250 million more in the hole just in the first year. Until the attitude changes, tax hikes could actually hurt us worse. Hell yeah... Sons is awesome. But I'm thinking more along the lines of maybe a dramatic/comedy like Weeds. The story of a semi-dysfunctional skydiving team and their merry band of adrenaline junky friends as they train for this meet and the other meet and so on and so forth... Coming up with novel ways to make money to pay for their jumps, find sponsors, whatever. And put it on Showtime so it can include adult language and situations. THAT would rock. And then their trip to the Wild World Wingsuit Championships. Surprised with all the movie mentions, none for the skydiving movie that's soon to be released.
