  1. How about if the "job" is more than just a "paycheck". Have you ever experienced a career that you are personally invested in for more than the money? Sure doesn't sound like it. Don I'm glad you used the term invested. Because the same rules apply: no matter how good you think something is, if the risk gets too high or the overall return drops too low, sometimes you just have to get out with what you can, while you can. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  2. Bullshit. That statement is fucked up on so many levels. That boils down to accepting this hateful, criminal behavior as just another way to prevent gays from having military careers. Fuck her, huh? If she doesn't like it she can go get another job. Anger aside: She knew she didn't have to put up with it. She expresses regret for making the choice to put up with it. The tragedy in DADT is that she was forced to have to make a choice at all if she wanted to have a career she seems to have been deeply committed to. I am in no way accepting the depsicable behavior she put up with but the fact stands that she did. DADT was just the reason for the behavior, but far from the root cause. Sadly, remove the specifities of DADT of her situation and the blackmail scenario is probably all too common in military and civilian life. You see this as simply a policy issue, where I see this as an empowerment one. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  3. bullshit!! Centaurs are WAY faster than unicorns! absurd! Unicorns are areodynamic and have an optimal center of gravity. Dragons can kick both their asses... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  4. No floor show, but this female soldier was raped over and over in exchange for keeping the fact that she was a lesbian secret. http://prideinutah.com/?p=1711 I'm sorry she went through all that, I really am, but she didn't have to. Once a blackmailer starts, report them for blackmailing and harassment.. If raped, report them for rape. Even if one gets kicked out of the military, so will the other(s) or most likely they will go to jail too. Then sue or just find another job. Staying silent and putting up with it is never the answer. Rape is an extremely underreported crime and that's sad. The common reasoning is "I don't want people to think of me as (easy, a whore, weak, etc.)." Standing back up to their attacker and making sure they are at least tried in public for their crime, possibly convicted, to hell with what people think of them, IS strong. 5. Why can't a state run off its own revenue sources anymore? Credit overdoses are going to destroy this country and the world. For fucks sake, if you don't have the money and don't have a plan to pay it off, don't fucking take the loan. 6. Student loans. http://finance.yahoo.com/college-education/article/111460/is-the-college-debt-bubble-ready-to-explode Then again they can't really repo a degree or certification and sell it to someone else or simply erase the info from the person's mind. Yet. These loans are also being securitized, though an a much smaller scale. I love the last line, though not sure about the Gates part: Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  7. I've talked to a Lot of sherrif's ,..strange they always start the convo with "Keep your hands where we can see them"! Camefalling Haha, well thats not always a good way to start the convo......but I have been in that situation before So I kinda know how u feel. Rider My favorite was always. "Hey officer, I thought you said you didn't want to come back out here again." skycamtumbrider Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  8. It's end result. If by not killing them they kill others then killing them saves others. It's also cyclical. If they kill or threaten to kill others and we kill them, others in their group will then do the same or kill or threaten to kill us. Which makes us kill more of them. At some point either someone runs out of people or both groups have to come to an agreement. 10. What will change: Those that were riding unemployment either not looking or very picky about what job they took will look and possibly accept something lower than their level. Those that have been looking and can't find anything will likely move to different gov't assistance. In simplest terms, ending the long unemployment will force those able to get a job to do so which will stimulate the economy far more than the gov't simply giving people money to do so. If this economy is going to recover, the gov't has to stop "floating" it. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  11. Not really. As other countries are getting more advanced, they will simply shift their markets more to them. Additionally that's long term thinking, most corporations barely think beyond the next quarter. 12. We also had a cold war and many less industrialized and educated nations. It's a world economy and corporations are going to go where they think they can operate for less. Unfortunately tax breaks and grants are now a part of that. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  13. This might be a good thing, those that want to vote need to not be on welfare or other government subsidies. to many vote for handouts and don't contribute to the country in any meaningful way. Why stop there? Only billionaires should vote. The Republicans would love that. I'd be up for that if they had to pay off at least 10% of the national debt each year and 10 years to fully pay it off. 14. Ditto. Scoured Youtube a bit for more.
  15. Excellent point. However the only thing I might add would be to aid a group in becoming "us." "Us" itself may have to be reevaluated and make changes that apply to all. This is far better than setting separate standards for different subgroups. ie: If people are really worried about "flamers" the standard policies of sexual harassment should suffice. If people want more assurance perhaps a policy concerning overtly sexual behavior that does not specify gender or orientation may be in order. It always humors me how "segregation" and "separate but equal" is perfectly acceptable unless for white straight men or designated by white straight men. 16. This actually makes sense. Base it on federal income tax. This way if someone tried to get around this to vote, they'd actually be contributing. Would help to put an end to bread and circuses. ;) This of course would need to be coupled with some sort of requirement that taxes raised must equal x% of the national debt or equal to the the annual budget, whichever is greater. This would deter the extremely rich from simply changing the tax law so people making under say 6 figures no longer pay taxes so lose their right to vote and they then drop their rate to a low number. 17. You guys always overlook Romans and the direction to follow the orders of your government. And you don't have the balls to answer the question of how far you would go on the orders of your government. It's an absurd argument because it absolves the individual of responsibility for any atrocity, no matter how heinous, as long as they were told to do it by someone higher up the chain than them. And who's at the top of the chain? Dieties. Hence "JC says not to do this, but he 'told me' to do it." 18. While improving skills will always help, the key is move on. If enough people did that, all these large companies would start paying more. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  19. Another solution would be if having a war for profit, actually profit from it versus just letting the companies do that. Our military could easily become self sustaining simply by charging companies and countries for extraction and/or security services. Step 1 of getting out of debt is closing the checkbook for a bit and seeing what can find a way to sustain itself. 20. The full version has been released. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5BMQ3xQc7o&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_764446 While they do make some points about the apparent shortsightedness of the management as well as their attitude towards safety issues, I do wonder: How much are their union dues and is it a fixed amount or a percentage? Most in the vid claim to love their job and don't want to leave, and that's why they are getting hosed as management knows this so uses it. A similar situation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5BMQ3xQc7o&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_764446 I guess the lesson is you can't always making a living doing what you love and sometimes you have to just walk away and make it strictly a hobby or a second job. 21. Hey its not my fault. Its a part of doing business and hiring good people. Other places it is mutual.. You want all you EARN and nothing goes into those nasty socialist rainy day fund???? Tough fucking shit when it starts to pour there Bubba. Just asking for clarification-no intent to bunch your panties or rain on you entitlement parade. But since you ask, sure-give me a private option and I'd take it. I tend to make better choices with my money that the govt does. Yeah how would that have worked out for retirees had SS been privatized years ago and now they have lost everything because they chose the "wrong" investment portfolio. I think we have seen how well that can be managed by ordinary people and their investments huh. Sure.. I trust you to manage your money... well except when you get swindled out of it all by those who are too big to fail. We just saw the end game of those on Wall Street who can transfer the wealth of Main Street over to Wall Street on a scale never seen before. Who are YOU going to turn to when your investments don't quite pan out as you thought they would??? Is the New Social Security that you on the extreme right propose going to come with a handgun to use as your own private death panel the next time Wall Street and the large banks decide to bleed the system of all value again and millions of Americans have nothing to fall back on??? Hey folks... good luck in Divot and Jerrys Dog World I'd much rather have a private system (even a mandated one) that I controlled where the contributions went than a government mandated and controlled system that has no real money and now pays out by cashing in IOUs. I'm not counting on getting a dime of Social Security and think most younger people should expect the same. As for the "too big to fail": I think my position on bailouts, subsidies, and handouts is pretty obvious. NO to all!!! 22. You would not get transition pay. I think complaining about those milking a system that can be so easily milked is pointless. Change the system so it can't be milked how it's been being milked is the solution. Additionally the less complex the requirements, the less opportunities for abuse.
  23. If it was based on strictly being laid off and not future employment, they'd get the full amount and length of transition pay which may enable them to fight to get their cert back so they can be reinstated or go elsewhere. 24. Ah yes, the ol' "let's just make it illegal even though we have no real way to uniformly enforce" Plus now additional people have to be hired to audit, track, and enforce. Depending on how much the service costs are, a certain number of people would have to be caught and found guilty and benefits removed just to to break even. Then if it's deemed a jailable offense, additional expenses. crazy] Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
