Interesting. The man with the camera ran from the police. They apparently had the area blocked off, had he while filming gone past the area they were trying to keep people away from for their own safety? Also there is a gap between 1:42 and 1:43. I wonder how much time elapsed between then and the video ended without showing the phone/camera being smashed. Agree that the "police officers might second-guess themselves if they know they are being recorded and delay making necessary decisions" is bullshit. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

There are two sides to fixing it now, I agree, but not sure the tax cuts hurt us as much as the spending increases did. Spending less is far less complicated than taxing less as money not taxed is left in the economy. Do I believe that tax cuts can generate more income for the gov't? No, but might be able to keep that income at the same levels. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

30 years ago the Republicans thought we could cut taxes some and that the GDP would stay the same or even increase slightly as what was lost in tax revenue would be made up for in people spending/investing more causing growth. However, in order to get this passed, the Republicans had to make too many deals with Democrats which greatly increased the budget which made it unsustainable. What I wonder is had the tax rate not been lowered, but the Dems programs still instituted, would that have changed where we are now? Everyone likes to blame Trickle Down Economics (Voodoo Economics, etc.) but other than the deals to get it passed, did those tax cuts really cause all this or has it been the massive expansion in gov't spending? For something to be news, it has to stand out in some way: location, circumstances, people involved, etc. The same way that a murder in a small town may make national headlines while a multiple murder in a big city might not. Sure, a few people are hiring, but not enough people to seriously dent the unemployment rate. Further, not every job gives the same preference to hiring everybody. Lemme give you a for instance. There is currently a $9,000 tax credit for hiring certain people as long as they meet certain qualifications. Now, I'm not begrudging those people a job; not at ALL. However, if I were were to apply for the exact same minimum wage job, there's a good chance I'd be out of luck because, let's be honest here, why the hell would anyone hire one guy for a minimum wage position when they can hire another guy AND receive a $9,000 tax break? That is across the board corporate welfare for companies that hire minimum wage workers AND fucks over people outside of the bracket of people that qualifies. Right now it's a buyer's market. Employers can be and are being incredibly cheap with labor. They KNOW that just around the corner is another guy begging for even a crappy minimum wage job and if they can hire somebody and have the government pick up 1/3 of their annual wage, why the hell not pick that guy over another guy that doesn't qualify. What that means is, if you're NOT a part of that group, you're pretty well fucked in the minimum wage market. This is WAY more complex than saying people JUST need to go out and get a job. Definitely agree that shit needs to stop. It's basically a quota, but indirectly. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

Even if I believed you, which BTW I don't because who the fuck counts shit like that, what you're saying is you found 1 job every 3.5 miles. I don't know where the heck you live, but the population density around my house is a bit higher than that and wouldn't even begin to put a dent in the unemployment rate. I was counting because I knew it would make good fodder for SC. No kidding. Mix of urban and rural riding. Businesses hiring ranged from fast food joints to hardware stores to manufacturing facilities hiring skilled labor. We have created a society that says it is ok to refuse jobs because you feel they are beneath you. We not only say it is ok, we support the idea. Instead of a worker getting laid off and being able to collect unemployment because he said he couldn't find a job and was able to get a handful of people to say he applied for work at their establishments, we should be offering that man a job at whatever joint needs help. If he doesn't want the work...fine. No unemployment benefits for him. It's bullshit that there are places hiring, regardless of number, when people are collecting checks from the government. Unemployment currently rewards those that aren't working and if someone takes a job a few steps down, their unemployment stops. People currently can actually lose money by working. As I've stated before, we should stop calling it unemployment and start calling it transition. The initial qualifications would be the same. The difference would be that it would be a set amount for a set period of time, regardless of future employment. The only exception would be those that proved they had new jobs could elect to take a lump sum payment of half what they were left due. Much harder to defraud.

So you think America would be better off with no big corporations or rich people? And where is this small business going to get the startup or expansion money? * Not the gov't, cuz once the GDP was reduced by 75% or more they finally cut programs and raised taxes when the Chinese threatened to forclose because the US couldn't even pay the interest anymore on the massive loans given. * The middle class doesn't have any money to spare as millions lost their jobs and then find out unemployment was axed. * Those that still have jobs are paying such a high tax rate they're living paycheck to paycheck. You talk about "shooting zombies" when things crash, taxing heavilly all the rich people and corporations will bring it faster than anything. It's a world economy. There are much cheaper places to produce goods and also live than here, and there are much bigger untapped markets as well. It's the fault of the greedy fucks that run the unions and the corporations. That could seriously backfire as companies might simply pull out even more. Depending on the product, they may even decide it doesn't make economic sense to even try to sell it in the US. In a world economy, you can only push so hard before the initial costs of relocating pale to the onging costs. The unions learned this one the hard way. Sure beats being a vegetable which is what they call helmeted riders that hit their heads on the pavement above a certain speed. There are good arguments on both sides hence why it should be left up to the rider.

Because it's a bullshit law on a LOT of levels. It was shady to begin with, it's not going to save a dime and it's almost certainly unconstitutional. It "feels good" to some self-righteous folks, but it's pure bullshit. Lemme ask you this, how far do you think a bill would get that did similar testing of CEOs of companies that receive corporate welfare? Should people that take out SBA loans be required to test? Why do you think it's unconstitutional? Why do you think it won't save money? For your corporate welfare, I think if there was concern that drug use was an issue, it'd be more likely to pass. The same goes with SBA loans. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
-
Even if 100% compliance is the goal (doubt it), the program can still be considered a success if the costs to run it are less than the savings of the people kicked off welfare or denied it. I'm pro legalization of all drugs but still support this as the drug testing isn't mandatory, just for those that want government assistance. There's another option. He get the snip, then tells women he can't wait to have kids. So they try and they try and they try and they tri-y. If it gets as far as the doctor step he can either decide that he's done with that one and say the doctor said he wasn't able to and leave her or could say something on the long the lines of just more or different "activity" is needed. Lather, rinse, repeat. Heard a guy called into a radio show that had done something similar with his wife (she initially didn't want kids but changed her mind), and was saying that all his stuff was outside on the lawn now and the locks were changed as she overheard about his snip when they had to go to the ER for something, so buyer beware. Yikes girl. (((HUGS))) Is the car loan from the bank tied to your existing car or the next car you get? If completely independent, you have some options such as buying a $500 (or less) car off Craigslist and just driving it til it dies and using the rest to either pay back more of the loan or towards other bills. Prolly can sell your existing car on there too. If you wanna stick with a Nissan: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/2471261322.html or bigger and cheaper: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/search/cto?query=&srchType=T&minAsk=100&maxAsk=1000 Just make sure you take the Steelers sticker down as that will lower the value more. Since we're talking about cutting gov't waste.....Dollar coins
Bolas replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
I would get rid of dollar bills, pennies, nickles, and dimes. Just have quarters, dollar coins, fives, and up. ...and can gas stations stop with the 9/10 of a cent bullshit already? C'mon people, the 1930s are over. +1. That and ending prices with one or more 9s. Add the 1 cent or $1 to the price cuz that's what we do anyways when deciding. Do they really think we're that stupid? "$20? I don't want to spend that much. $19.99? Sure." Of course they could eliminate most coins altogether if sales taxes were not added onto purchases, but were included in the base prices.
