Skydive Arizona Dropzone.com 2nd Annual Holiday Boogie
vdschoor replied to sangiro's topic in The Bonfire
I've put my name on there, I am most likely going to be there, but have to argue with my boss about cellphones since they are going to be turned off!! Meeting a lot of the dz.com people in Byron last week was great, I need to meet more of those cool peeps! Iwan -
Murrays, I was thinking like that too, untill the Rebel hit the $ 1000 mark. I remember when I bought the Digital Ixus three years ago, a 2.1 Megapixel camera that cost me £400 (I lived in the UK back then) Yes, I paid way too much for it, but if I look back at the amount of fun I had with it, and at the pictures that I would have never taken with a normal 35mm camera.. those were 400 pounds well spent. For me at least, I think it is going to be the same way with the digital Rebel. With technology you always pay too much, even if it seems cheap, because the moment you walk out the store, it's old... Just my $0.02 Iwan

Hollister Field Trip to Eloy / DZ.com Hoiday Boogie
vdschoor replied to skyshark6's topic in The Bonfire
Can we make this a NorCal field trip? Between airfare and a rental car it might be just as cheap to drive out there if people can carpool. I am not 100% sure I am going yet, but looking at the other threads going on about this, I might just have to Iwan -
I am sure I am using the Rebel, I also know I made a mistake here. I just did another test and I could take 12 (with my standard, cheapest I could find 128 MB CF card) and they had sizes between 6.5 and 7 MB. These are the numbers for pics in RAW mode. I just got an email my order for the Ultra II had shipped, with an estimated arrival of Monday, I will keep you posted. Iwan

I found this review very helpful as well, what I tried last night is taking pictures (not holding down the trigger) one by one, and see how many I could get in in a minute. 40 / 41 pics with a normal SanDisk 128 MB CF card, nothing fancy. This was with my camera set to Large JPEG, not RAW. Performance when shooting RAW is a lot less, if I remember well it was somewhere around 26 pics. Iwan

I would go for the EOS 300D in that case, since that is an SLR and will give you more flexibility... Just my 2 cts (and I've bought that one too ) Iwan

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/page10.asp This url (posted in another thread as well) has a good test around different CF cards, with different settings for file size. Iwan

Which means.....what? I'd do a search, but it would come up with every post with NSFW in it..no thanks. Mike Not Suitable For Work Iwan

Quote In a year of experience with the digital setup, I've found this to work best (and with reasonable cost) for me: I work with 2 standard Sandisk 128 MB cards, swapping them in between loads, using one to take pictures while the other copies to the hard drive on the laptop. 128 MB seems to be perfect, since I've ever been able to fire off more than the max capacity of 49 large JPEGs in the time it takes to go through freefall from 13,500. Seriously, do you really need 49 images of a 65 second skydive? That's what *motion pictures* are for. Quote I agree, but still, you want the "umph" to be there if you need it right? It's not really about wanting to take a pic of every second in freefall, but if there is a moment where you want to shoot a bunch, you want the camera to be ready... So what speed do you use, do you use the normal "consumer" compact flash? How big can you blow up those Large jpegs? Iwan

The rush will never go away.. that's what's keeping me motivated, together with the awesome people I continue to meet wherever I go skydiving. Welcome to "the club" Iwan
-
Hmm Arnie might fix that, since he is going to have a massive bill for his Hummer! ha ha Not that I think Arnie should be the governor, I have no opinion on that.... Iwan

I just ordered the 512Mb Sandisk ULTRA II card. Last night I played around with my Digital Rebel and took pictures for 60 seconds. With my "cheapest I could find" 128 Mb CF card I have for my Digital Elph I could take about 27 pictures in Large format. I will post my results as soon as I get the Sandisk Ultra II card in. Overall I am really happy with it, my tongueswitch works, my Sigma 15mm works.. Now I only have to mount it and jump it! Iwan

If the Hollister peeps don't finish it? So Byron can have the leftovers? You disappoint me Gian You're welcome anyways, don't feel obliged to bring beer, although it is always welcome of course Iwan

J.P., Go ahead and post, if she wants you to, then why not? Many photographers have nudity in their portfolio, this just happened to be skydiving nudity instead of "erotic" nudity. It is not pornographic right? I would have no problem with it... Just my 2 cts. Iwan

Dude.. do you know what kind of trouble you got yourself into just now? This means MAJOR amounts of beer!! ha ha.. Congrats, you did really well on that jump. I enjoyed jumping with you. Iwan

He he.. well, that's right, that's why I want to get better at freeflying so I can wear that monster in those jumps as well, and film some freefly jumps. Are you guys going for the weekend or just one day at a time? Iwan I think the plan is to "partay" at Jim's Friday night and then go to Lodi early and camp there Saturday night. There might be room in jim's tent if you need a place to crash..

So it's sounding more and more like BAS is going to be pretty dead this weekend. The women are off to Elsinore, Mad John is up in Lodi with 10 people... where should we go for some adrenaline??? I still have some jumptickets left over from Monterey.. maybe go there and enjoy the view. By the way, I would like to take you up on your offer of teaching me how to freefly better.. Iwan

Who's team are you in? Or are they building teams up there? Iwan
-
And a little movie of the jumps we made at the boogie. be gentle with my bandwith The DZ.com record attempt is in there as well. The movie is about 6MB. Iwan
-
You shouldn't but this is how it just is, and always has been. Next weekend there are 15 dollar jumps, well, tickets are normally 18 bucks (if you buy a block of tickets, otherwise 19) They will not refund us 3 dollars when we jump next Saturday, they will give you back a 3 dollar jumpticket, so you collect a couple and you get a new jump ticket. Listen, I offer 18 bucks (normal block price) for the tickets, and just stop wining.. there were enough people that would be willing to buy the tickets from you, they probably ran out of cash so they didn't come up to you. Payment will be sent through Paypal after I received the tickets from you. PM me for details. Did you have a great time at the boogie or not? I think you did, just like all of us. So don't let these couple of 19 dollar tickets ruin it all for you. Iwan

I do have the 15, and I think it is going to be mounted on the Digital Rebel sometime next week I am going to Ritz this afternoon, play with the camera, see if my tongue switch works, how the speed of the camera is, although I don't really need to be convinced there... I just need digital, waiting for the pictures to be developed is just too hard ha ha! Iwan
-
I bought about 5 tickets from EC14, he had to get rid of them. Anyways, same here, if you want to get rid of yours, send me a PM.. I will pay you through Paypal. Iwan

I have the full list at home, I will post it tonight. Iwan

Kath!! Thanks for bumping this up, I am not sure if I will be coming out, but I love speedstars. The $25 is to cover the video? I'll let you know later if I am going to make it. Iwan
