Confused on the Increased Canopy Collisions...
vdschoor replied to RoysPlayThing's topic in The Bonfire
Don't leave us now!! You need to get yourself on an airplane and see if you still want to do these other adventure sports... don't think so maybe on the side though, when the weather is no good for skydiving. Anyways.. about the canopy collisions.. I think bigger planes, bigger formations and as stated above: brainfarts.. for a couple of seconds you don't pay attention and there it is... It is very important to know where everybody else is when flying your canopy. Iwan -
Hmmm.. I would go to that, but I can't. For some reason foreigners (which I am) can not give blood here, which is a bummer. I used to give blood back in Holland, I think it is important. You've got enough of that stuff to share, and considering how many people you can help out with it.. it is well worth it. Iwan

Deuce!! That balloon jump is going to be on video and digital still sir! We need you to be the star in this for once as well, instead of flying above or under it doing video. Iwan -
I use the Sigma 15mm Fisheye lens and I am pretty happy with it. Iwan

I read about that one, I am going since it is close to my work. Going to see the new CBR1000 !! It looks like a really nice bike the latest Cycle World magazine. No dough for a bike though.. just bought a new rig.. I used to ride when I lived in Europe. Iwan

Shindig, Which switch are you using, and what plug do you have on it? I was unhappy with it as well, but now that I got the switch with the stereoplug I'm pretty happy with it. Of course, it doesn't even come close to the 10D but that's why I paid $500 less for the camera.. Iwan

0:5:0 5 jumps with my new gear! Downsized (and upgraded) to a Sabre2 150 in a "extremely comfort and superior fit" Wings container Iwan

Completely disagree with that. Skydiving is a dangerous sport (do not try to convince me otherwise - I'm not a whuffo). And it is right for a loving person to worry about their SO. I also disagree with all the "cutaway" bullshit. It is good for stupid movies, but in real life you need to find compromises... I disagree a little bit with you here, I do believe in skydiver-whuffo relationships. The only thing that is important is that people respect each other, and that people can continue to do their thing. If my GF would tell me to stop skydiving, it would become a different story, in that case it is going to be the cutaway procedure, but if she is just worried about me, that's just because she cares for me I would think, there are significant dangers to our sport so there is a valid point in beeing worried. My mom used to be really worried and scared when I went out. She is still worried, and tells me to be carefull, but she respects me and realizes how important this sport has become for me. That's how a SO should be too.. worried, but respectfull. The important thing is that you SO should not be sitting at home waiting for you, because that is going to cause major issues (been there done that, and ended up in cutaway). There is too much thinking and worrying going on then. They start calling you on your cellphone, you don't answer because you're jumping, they start thinking more.. what if something happened.. and it just gets worse from there on. Just my 2 cts.. Iwan

Nope, doesn't change a thing. The behavior of the camera when the switch is plugged in is exactly the same as when you hold the shutter release in half way (normally used for autofocus) Changing the lens to MF doesn't change this behavior. I think it is a design decision to make the camera react faster or something, since it doesn't take pictures and write to the CF card at the same time. The minute you hold the shutter release halfway down, it stops writing to the CF card is what it looks like (at least the CF light goes out) Iwan Iwan

The camera doesn't really slow down untill about 10-12 pictures. I think there are multiple buffers in the camera, so it holds more pictures, it's just that the really fast bursts are maximized to 4. Thanks everyone for your feedback, it really does sound like the stereo plug is going to resolve this. Iwan

I was wondering how people put their name on the pictures they publish on the net, do you do this picture by picture or is there a way to automate this in Photoshop? I know how to do it on a picture by picture basis, but it would be cool to just tell photoshop: for all the pictures in that directory put my name on there in the right hand bottom corner. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Iwan

Skydive Arizona Dropzone.com 2nd Annual Holiday Boogie

You said the F word!! that means beer, but I think there is going to be enough of that anyways. What to expect? I experienced it as a bigger thrill then jumping from a plane or chopper. It really feels like jumping, you go from no noise whatsoever to a lot of noise (windnoise) You are going to love it. Just remember one thing, stuff that is really easy to do when you are jumping from a plane will take a little more effort, since there is no relative wind to play with. Iwan -
Maybe, I can't go on Friday and I sort of have plans for Saturday to go to Byron, but I suspect it will not be very busy there with a boogie going on in Davis. Iwan

Ha ha, sounds like my moms response to my email that I found new gear that matched my jumpsuits! She responded: Do you need that gear or do you just want to look good? I replied, I bit of both, I need a better canopy (really I am downsizing, but she's on a need to know basis on that one for now since she heard about the canopy accident in Lodi a couple of weeks ago) and I gave her the classic line: It doesn't matter how I do up there in the skies, as long as I do it looking good he he.. By the way... Nice looking gear! Iwan

I just got a response from Ed from Conceptus, and this is what he sent me: I couldn't find a setting but, I asked him to send me a switch with a stereo plug that is already hooked up that way, I'll post results as soon as I receive it! Thanks, Iwan

I guess I should have been a bit more specific. I normally use Fuji Velvia 50 ASA slide film, a very sharp professional film. 6,3Mpixel is enough for most people, but if you want the best possible result it wont match the best films. I´ve seen some shots made with the 14Mpixel Kodak DCS Pro and that was impressive and can compete with the best films. Atle Interesting to read, why would 6.5Mpixel not be enough. I don't think you will be able to tell the difference for 5x7, 8x10 or maybe even a 20x30. Then if you go extremely big (say billboard size) the print quality doesn't really matter anymore since it would make the poster too expensive to produce. Do you really see a difference between your slide film and digital prints? I think the weakest link here would be the printer used to print up that picture. But that's just my thought, I am by far not a professional photographer, and I've only read about the Canon 1Ds, and the Kodak camera you are referering to. Iwan

I found that too, maybe something to ask the people at conceptus. When my tongueswitch is plugged in, it behaves as if you hold the shutter release in half way (to make the camera focus) This makes that the camera doesn't clear it's buffer untill it is full! It's probably something that can be fixed fairly easy, like cutting one of the wires in the tongue switch... Iwan

I've heard the rumours about the DC-9 for a while, but has it arrived yet? There are no pics or anything on the website... Iwan

Well.. reading all this, I guess it is going to be an interesting weekend in Byron! Lany, are you starting ground school, now that Roy is not there to play with, you might as well get started on skydiving, so by the time he's back you're graduated from AFF! ha ha.. See you this weekend! Iwan

There's nothing wrong with it, but he was posting the choice between a ProDytter and a ProTrack, so I recommended the ProTrack. The Neptune is pretty cool too! In that case I would make a choice between the ProTrack and the Neptune Iwan

If I had to buy a new audible now, I would go for the protrack, it has all the same features as the ProDytter, and more. Why spend the money on a prodytter first and then buy the ProTrack? Iwan
