I just got a pm reminding me we got some visitors coming in this weekend, it sounds like there might be a party in Byron again!! The Hollister Posse is coming! Sebazz1, Swoopyswoop and Kath (Flymysky) are coming our way to see this IL chick that's supposed to come to Byron (and to party with the Byron crew of course.. ) Byron.. REPRESENT! he he, who's coming? There might be some extra special events too, since there are a couple of people that are going to hit 500... Iwan

0:7:0 7 jumps on a beautiful Sunday in Byron! Iwan
-
Dont wait too long with that though.. there is only so much you learn from solo jumps, in fact you might learn the wrong things. When you approach a group, just be honest about your skills, they will appreciate that and you will learn a lot from jumping with people that are more experienced. No need to rush this though, do it when you feel comfortable. Iwan

I can't comment. I would just try. Official operating temperatures are way higher than that anyways. I think cold is ok for the camera, it might be the humidity.... and major temperature changes. Iwan

Firstime, Get out of the plane at 14k and instead of doing your normal skydiving stuff, practice dummy pulls all the way down and try to fix that issue If you can't figure it out, of course coach jumps are a great tool to help you out further.. Iwan

My first 250 jumps were without an AAD, just RSL on my setup. Looking back at it I think it should have been the other way around, those first couple of hundred jumps are the ones where you might experience your first malfunction e.a. Right now in Belgium they are about to start requiring a cypress for people up to X amount of jumps, I see this as a good thing, but then on the other hand if that requirement was in place a couple of years ago, I wouldn't have been able to jump (or at least not that much) because I simply didn't have the money for a cypress back then. In short, it's everybodies personal choice to have or not have one. Right now? I wouldn't buy a rig without equipping it with a cypress, but if it had to go back for service or something, I would jump my rig without it. I know it is taking a chance, because what if someone knocks me out? But I would probably take it but do "less dangerous" jumps during that time. Like not doing formations with inexperienced people that might take me out (even though this can happen with experienced people too of course) The only reason for a cypress on your gear is to open your reserve for you when you are not conscious, or lost altitude awareness. But if I ever had a cypress fire because I lost altitude awareness, I would consider getting out of the sport. For me personally I have a cypress on there in case I get knocked out or for whatever reason I cant pull my reserve. Just my 2 cts. Iwan

I have a flat top pro, and I mount it on the front without any problems. i would like to challenge that I think it handles vibrations very very well. I crashed on landing with mine with no problems, and the camera does vibrate in freefall, I have to figure out a way to mount it more secure, and i haven't gotten any problems yet... What I think is a bigger problem with the kind of jumps you guys were doing with it, is humidity and cold... Regarding the Error 99, one of my friends had all sorts of problems with the camera when he mounted it on his head. finally we found that the problems were with his tongue switch. He ordered standard tongueswitches, with the stereoplug on em from Conceptus and he was good to go, and from what i have heard he hasn't had problems since. I would blame humidity and temperature for the jumps you were doing. don't give up on the camera just yet Thanks, Iwan

Hmm.. anyone selling a VHS-C camcorder? I guess mine is too small..

Seatbelt? We don't need no stinkin' seatbelts! FAA regulations dear, we need to wear a seatbelt on take off (and landing.. if you get on the plane with gear like that) Iwan

Sure, and I'll make sure the seatbelt doesn't come undone on you.. I am guessing it's friday afternoon for you "around that time" Iwan

Sabre2 openings, which mighty warrior has tamed them
vdschoor replied to friflaj's topic in Gear and Rigging
I was a little dissapointed at first too, specially since I already had a Sabre2 150 that didn't have problems and when I bought my second rig, that Sabre2 was having issues. I've mainly been jumping the new one, and after a while the openings were better and better. Overall, they have never been uncomfortable for me, in fact they have been very comfy, even with all the camera stuff strapped to my head. I am very happy with the canopy, but it was some getting used to at first.. I would say jump it some more, and pay close attention to your opening procedures! That's what fixed my problems I am sure. Also remember, if its not on video it didn't happen Chris So tape it, but leave the tape in Vegas

What's your opinion of the canon 300d
vdschoor replied to genoyamamoto's topic in Photography and Video
When you order the biteswitch, make sure you get the one with the stereo plug! The mono plug slows down the camera considerably, since it won't "release" the shutter fully and this makes that the camera doesn't start writing to the CF card untill the buffer is full (4 pictures) After the buffer is filled up, it will clear one picture out of the buffer to the CF and you can take another picture. It basically operates the same way as if you are holding the shutter release button in half way (to focus if the camera is set to autofocus) The stereo plug releases the shutter completely, so every picture you take gets written to the CF immediately. Saskia, Can you explain what he did to fix the Error 99 problem? I haven't seen any problems with my Digital Rebel, only that I have to use a tongue switch with a stereo plug, that's the only way the camera operates perfectly for me. About the picture quality.. I have no problems with it at all, I don't know what kind of modes you are shooting in and what lenses you are using? Iwan
