    Would...

By "flat" are you referring to glide ratio or body position? Because a perfectly flat body (relative to the horizon) will get you a glide ratio of zero. If the debate is over whether high glide ratio or low glide ratio is preferable, there can be no debate, if the goal is known. If the goal is breakoff separation, for example, you want the best glide ratio. If the debate is over what body position gives best glide ratio, that is tougher. The answer lies somewhere in between a stall and a dive. As Jason said, just learn to fly smooth, relative to others and you'll be there.

  4. Yes, but there is the "pendulum effect" which can be both disorienting and time-consuming, i.e. if you have what would normally be a "slight off-heading", couldn't it turn into a "more than slight off-heading" if you stay unbalanced in the harness, during the pendulum phase? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  7. You're aware that one potential definition of "flying your wingsuit well" is flying it close to objects, right? Just as parachutes were originally designed to slow our descent, swooping has allowed us to do exactly the opposite (approach the ground faster, intentionally), because it looks cool and is fun. And wingsuits were recognized for their utility in the BASE environment as a means of creating more separation from the object, and yet proximity flying allows exactly the opposite, because it looks cool and is fun. Note that I am not criticizing swooping or proximity flying (or looking cool and having fun), just making an observation.

    Rush 2112

You're aware of the (intentional) heavy parallels between this story and Ayn Rand's Anthem, right? It happens to be one of my favorite novels and it's a very short read, you should check it out if you haven't. Incidentally, you can read it for free, electronically, at Project Gutenberg. Also, if you like the prog-rock concept album thing, you should check out a much newer band the Mars Volta (perhaps start with their album De-Loused in the Comatorium). It's a much looser concept to follow but still interesting. I have found that most "young guys" like me who like Mars Volta, also like Rush. Unfortunately I've been less successful with getting the "old guys" who like Rush interested in Mars Volta... but it's still worth a shot. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

2112 was released 5 years before I was born, but I still love it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. So did they change from slippery to non, or vice-versa? Do I have the "old style" or "the new"? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. Maybe my experience is unique, but about a year ago I demoed a Pilot 150 and Sabre2 150. The Pilot was supposedly brand new and was really easy to get in the bag. The Sabre2 supposedly had a few hundred jumps on it and was super slippery. I then bought a new Pilot 132, and it was easy to get in the bag from day 1. Not slippery like other new canopies I'd had. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. I agree about the fisheye effect. One of the amazing things about the Canon 10-22 EF-S is that there is virtually no distortion throughout the entire zoom range. 10mm (16mm equivalent) with no fisheye! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. Yeh, usually in Sept or Oct we have a smaller event that is just as much fun.
  15. Wow, amazing colors on the AFF shot for no manipulation. I have to cheat to get my colors even close to that. Nice photo finish in Parachutist as well this month, Laszlo. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  22. So he flared while in a continuous front riser dive? That sounds unpossible. Scary, indeed. Actually, I guess with rear riser input you could level out the trim, no? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. So they're tenting my condo this weekend for termites, and my roommate had to sign this long form with a bunch of stipulations on it. Among them: (we have to give them a key to the place) "To avoid possible misunderstandings, we recommend that all valuables such as jewelry, cash, and objects of art be removed from the structure." Do they intend for that to sound so incriminating? Please remove your things so our people don't take them? Grand misunderstanding auto? More brilliance: "Due to the gaseous nature of the fumigants, the material rapidly dissipates from the structure during the aeration process." Or, these gases act like gases? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
