  2. We tried to get Red Stripe to sponsor a Z-Flock wingsuit event. Didn't even receive a reply. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  5. and I sure as hell didn't say that swoopers knew more about canopies. So tell me, where did I say this? Where is the quote in this thread or any other thread? Why are you implying that I said something that I DID NOT SAY and then you turn around in a smug way and say "I can only read what you wrote". What a load of crap. I believe these are the words he is focusing on (emphasis in bold): We as competitive swoopers Ray know this is a no no ... time for everyone else to start being more proactive in creating separation up there. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. My first and only camera (an HC90), I treated very well, in a box and in a condom. After one year and 200 jumps the swivel screen is already acting up, only works when swiveled out and up against the body. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. I always thought this might be true too, but if it is, why do I see the "pros" with thousands of jumps on the same camera (a 10-year old model) still undamaged, and totally exposed? Honestly, if the boxes aren't airtight, humidity is going to get to the camera just as much as without it, I'd bet. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. There's nothing trivial about designing skydiving gear. Moreover, this sort of "solution" to this problem, in my mind, is similar to saying that we should create a device which ejects you out the roof of your car if it senses the car is underwater. It's too complex of a solution to a rare problem for which the much more simply solution is: don't drive your car off a bridge. And as already pointed out, the ramifications of a mis-fire aren't good. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Bourne

If I remember correctly, in the first Bourne, he kills somebody with a pen. In the next one, he beats up a guy with a magazine. With what household object will he wreak havoc in this third installment? The first two Bournes are some of the most intelligent action movies I've seen. In general I would say Matt Damon isn't the best actor since he lacks versatility, but his minimalist acting style works VERY VERY well for the Bourne character, and is what makes these movies work so well. I was supposed to see this last night... will have to wait a few more hours. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Thirteen years is a long time to last (especially at the speed you were going at) before something else becomes "more fun". I've only been jumping 4 years and shooting pictures 1 year, and already I feel the burnout haunting me, other things in my life are already sometimes becoming "more fun" than jumping. I enjoyed our techie camera chats. Will see you soon, best of luck with the drum drumming. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. I'm not trying to be difficult here, really, I just am not quite sure what you mean by that. Looking at your illustration nothing strikes me as "intrusive"... it appears to run mostly parallel to the square flight pattern's "normal" legs. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. First Chicken Course? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. Also, I think a more realistic illustration would show that a "mass" pattern (flown by many parachutes) will be regions rather than lines, since not everybody flies the exact same 3 legs. Looking at it this way, you get a different picture. See attachment. Realistically the "regions" can be much wider. The truth is anybody can draw a picture to illustrate a point in theory, but in real life, at the DZ, it is always more chaotic. There is always a new jumper flying the wrong way. Hell, I usually see 25% of the load flying the wrong way or landing crosswind depending where I am. No matter how great of a swooper you are, common sense dictates that the higher degree of turn you do: 1) The faster you go 2) The more you have to be aware of (due to the rapid change in direction and accordingly your blind spot) Both of these things make it harder to avoid an unexpected canopy in your path, and again no matter how good you are, there will someday be an unexpected canopy in your path (especially on twin turbine loads when 20 people are under canopy at once). I am not saying 180's aren't without their risks, but I can see where they would be preferable to 270's. It's the same reason we tell students not to do S-turns in the pattern. Collisions aren't as likely when you're going straight; they are more likely when you're turning. Car crashes usually happen at intersections. More turns = more collisions. Larger turn is analagous to more turns. I'm sure many swoopers are capable of doing 270 degree turns in traffic, just like I'm capable of driving 100 mph in traffic down the highway. I will get ticketed for going over the chosen limit of 70 mph though, regardless of my ability or my opinion. And if I am totally honest with myself I'll admit that 70 mph is safer, for that one day when the car in front of me changes lanes unexpectedly. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. I'm not sure I got that from the pictures. Could you elaborate? Also, why does the 270 illustration show the maneuver taking up virtually no space at all, while the 180 looks like a broad sweeping parabola? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. What's a 20/40/60 way? How about a 404 dive? Dropzone was not found? Geek humor? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. I happen to know somebody from USPA is reading this thread today. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Well then don't. If they aren't giving you the information you want, change the way you ask. By not giving caption information, you force them to make their interest obvious by asking for caption info. I've never had the exclusive question posed to low-res submissions (or really at all anymore), but if they do ask that early in the process, then be honest and explain your submission procedure. Low-res pictures are simply "previews" and are not fit to be printed anywhere, so you actually haven't submitted anything really, yet. Once you have a working relationship with the magazine and they know you by name, they will stop asking the question anyway, because they know that you know the rules. READ the post I already linked to here. If you follow that process it is impossible for both mags to request the same pic. That process requires that you wait for one mag's response before you submit to the other. However, if you want to submit to both mags simultaneously, that is possible too, I usually give them both the link to a gallery on my site containing 50-100 pictures... they will each select 5-10 and the chances of overlap are slim. If there is some overlap, I will send one mag 8 pictures instead of the 9 they asked for, and it's no big deal. I'm sure if you design it they'd be happy to try it out. Personally, I like the surprise factor. A cover shot wouldn't be nearly as cool if you knew it was coming. Nothing like a published photo in your mailbox on Monday morning to jump-start your week. When you take a girl out for dinner, do you ask her before the meal if she'll be sleeping with you later? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. There are many valid points in the original post, but a jumper by the door, waiting to exit, cannot physically communicate with the pilot. The pilot should visually check that all jumpers are gone before beginning his descent, and/or turn off the green light. However, the solo wingsuit jumper, whether noticed by the pilot or not, should have known the plane was diving and either exited accordingly (if it was within his skillset) or even better, not exited at all. As a sidenote, I have my cellphone in my pocket 99% of the time on wingsuit flights. I've only landed off once or twice, but no matter where I land it is nice to have a phone immediately available, especially if somebody ELSE landed off and you need to call him ASAP. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Easy solution. Submit the same pictures LOW RES to both mags. They will request the ones they like in HIGH RES. Now you know what they are going to use. Or at least what is on their "A list"... even then they will probably request more than they need, but at least you've narrowed it down a lot and freed up all the other pictures they didn't request. When they ask for caption information, they're almost definitely going to print it. Longer description here. Honestly, if you send a dozen high res pictures at once you are shooting yourself in the foot, because as you said, you don't know what they'll use, and now you took those dozen pictures off of your "available list". And I don't blame them for not replying, they get hundreds of people submitting photos, and I know some people who submit literally hundreds of high res photos at once. If I was them, I would not be replying every time. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  22. At which point you turn away from the pattern, create blind spots where you should be watching, and are (momentarily) flying in the complete opposite direction of other canopies nearby, at a very high rate of speed. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
