  1. So permanent, life-long soldering burns indicate that I'm a true vidiot? All that said....I don't think that anyone can dispute that there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of technology as it rolls forward. Agreed... else some could claim that unless you build your own camera helmet you're not a "true" videot. And maybe if you didn't discover electricity you're still not worth much. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. You're still nuts. Thanks for the info though, cool story. Had to be a neat feeling. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. I just cancelled my Easynews subscription after 6 years as a satisfied customer. I just wasn't using it anymore. Though I'll admit for some purposes usenet is superior, I just ended up using a combo Torrents and DC++ for everything I needed. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. I'll probably be there at least one day, not sure which. More like Z-Flock 3.4. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Sometimes I will use all 3 and find the same torrent on each one, but get more seeders if I combine them all. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. I've got a demonoid account, but I never use it because anything on demonoid can be found faster on mininova or thepiratebay. I don't get what the big deal is about demonoid. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Wow that's pretty nice, looks like it came from point-n-shoot digital camera. On other non-skydiving sites I've read a lot of reviews saying this camera makes grainy video (compared to other HDV cams). I haven't gone HD yet and I was considering the CX7, but now I'm leaning more toward an HC5 because of all these reviews I'm reading. I really like the idea of solid state but I also don't want to deal with the extra editing work yet. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. And in a "FREE" country we should be able to choose how to live our own lives, including desparate, stupid choices. We don't need a government to think for us. Once that happens, we become a herd. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. You just described how to be an editor and packer... not a videographer. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. I've always felt the same... although a cotter pin system is probably still better than nothing. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. Everything you said is true, but it doesn't negate the fact that petitions can make a difference, and it takes 20 seconds to sign. Who said they "don't believe" LANC is dead? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. His are made from CF which is not cheap (I say this as I finish building CF camera mounts and top plate for my new self-built Wes Rich CCM). What did you make your $18 ones out of? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. Nice job on the photos Dave. I see Purple Mike sucked you into the void. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. Ya think? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. If not that, then why is prostitution illegal? I understand your reasoning, but the net result is the same. A person is getting paid to have sex. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. My post began by referencing US law. And yes, I was excluding the exceptions within the US. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. USA law is so logical. Consider: If I want to pay a woman to have sex with me, it is illegal. UNLESS I film it. Even if you wish to cling to a flimsy argument of "morality," you would have to argue that adding a camera to the mix makes the whole situation MORE immoral. Will other "immoral" things be made legal so long as we film them? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. Post the link on some real photography forums (i.e. not DZ.com) that see high traffic. Some people will sign the petition even if they aren't sure they want LANC. A feature you don't use is still a feature available. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. I've been wanting to say something like this. The original question IMO was incredibly rhetoric if not, as you put it, silly. I'm surprised it's getting so many serious responses. "Death means nothing" sounds like the name of a goth band. I think what's worth noting is that while nobody would straight up say "a shot is more important than my life", many people have taken extra risks to get a good shot. It's not a simple black and white issue as the original question implies. I.e. a safe shot is where I live and a dangerous shot is where I die. There are varying levels of risk and I would wager all of us have taken an extra risk for a cool shot at one point in time. If you don't agree, consider that you are ALWAYS increasing skydive risk for photos, when you wear cameras on your head in the first place. This doesn't mean that "death means nothing" to you... it just means you've accepted the higher risk for a greater reward. As long as the risk is not to others, it is morally acceptable IMO... we're all in the business of taking risks for thrills, as jumpers in the first place. I remember a jump where myself and 2 others where flying wingsuits in formation while being shot by a very very well known photographer, who I'll leave nameless here. We were all equipped with earpieces and he had a mic and was directing us during the dive (he was above us, out of our sight). As we went through our pre-planned breakoff altitude, I heard his re-assuring voice in my ear "Guys, hold it steady for just a little bit longer, I just need a few more shots". I was laughing to myself as I stared at those cars getting bigger and bigger and wondered how much lower he was going to take this. Soon I heard "ok boys we're done here" and looked over my shoulder to see him already sniveling. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. If anybody doubts that online petitions can get results, I can attest to the fact that they do. I bought a Samsung LCD TV two months ago and it had a small video problem ("tearing") that tech support was totally unaware of despite the fact that almost every TV in this model range had it. If you did call tech support they'd attempt to replace either parts of your TV or the whole thing, which would not fix the problem. I found a forum where 100's of people were complaining of the problem and the fact that Samsung didn't recognize it as widespread. So I started a quick petition online, got tons of signatures from all those people, and in a few weeks Samsung recognized the problem publicly, and released a software fix for the TV that fixed the problem a few weeks later. That is a different situation, but it proves that online petitions can work. However, to get a lot of signatures you must promote the petition a lot, and once you get a lot of signatures you must write real letters to Sony informing them of the petition. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. The second one looks more like a gingerbread man to me. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. Did you give him beak to beak? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. I am making a custom helmet (Wes Rich CCM style) and it will have an RF disconnect (MCX) in the switch circuit, at the front of the shell, so I can remove the switch on video only jumps. I figure if I'm going to spend $50 on a pre-made switch only to cut it apart and splice a new component in, I might as well just make the whole thing myself. Btw, the total parts cost is less than $5, now that I've got it figured out. Although I will admit that what you described is good customer service. I didn't know that they had that policy though and I've bought multiple switches in the past because of my ignorance. An interesting thing to note is that usually when a switch fails it is the 90 degree stereo connector (not the switch itself). How many times have you owned a pair of stereo headphones and one ear starts fading in and out? This is because those connectors, by nature, do not last very long, before one of the two channels shorts out. I took one apart and looked at how they are made and there are very small gaps between the 3 conductors at the connector base, and it's very easy for the gaps to close. This is why when you have a pair of broken headphones, as I referred to earlier, you can get the signal to come back sometimes by bending the strain relief area of the connector a certain way. Plus, I enjoy the satisfaction of doing it myself. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  25. That's gotta be the funniest thing I've heard all day. In North Carolina we hiked to a waterfall 4 miles away from any signs of human life. Just as we got there (after descending a long nearly vertical cliff), I stepped on a yellow jacket nest barefoot. I had a whole swarm chasing me and had to jump into a tiny still pool of water that just happened to be just upstream of a pretty hardcore rapid section. I did a coffin dive feetfirst into the pool and let myself sink to the bottom. When I came out there were over a dozen drowned yellowjackets with their stingers stuck in my t-shirt. I had about 7 stings and my girflriend was freaking out thinking I was gonna have some sort of reaction and die out there. I don't know if I'd ever been stung by one of these before, but fortunately I didn't have a very bad reaction at all... they didn't even hurt that bad and were gone in 2 days. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
