  1. Yes, moisture is a concern, but jumping a waterproof enclosure is not the solution. While I do admire your critical thinking, one of the first questions I always ask myself as a design engineer (before I get creative) is "how was this done before?" Re-inventing the wheel is usually not necessary... especially if it's an area you're not an expert in. Look around your DZ at the people jumping cameras. Do they have waterproof enclosures? The best way to approach something new in this case (skydiving) is to find out what is the most accepted and safest way to go about it, and provided that makes sense to you, continue in that direction. If, after several hundred video jumps (which you're not ready to begin yet) you have somehow unfathomably ruined multiple cameras from moisture and still think you need a waterproof container on your head... well by that point you'll be able to help yourself. No offense at all, but the question you're asking in the OP is equivalent to a whuffo coming on DZ.com and asking "how would I go about wearing 4 parachutes instead of 2, to increase my odds of surviving freefall during my first skydive?" Sure, it's possible. But it's not smart, necessary, or logical... and it's not a question they need to be asking at this point. What they need to be asking is, "what's the best way to start skydiving?" www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. You're asking very specific questions but only providing vague information. What are "other activities?" More specifically, why do you want to mount a waterproof enclosure to a skydiving helmet? And what does "vetted for jumping" mean? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Acer Aspire One

I also bought an Acer desktop about 15 years ago (rather, my parents did, I was only a kid). It was my first desktop and it was a piece of shit. These days, I build my own desktops and would never buy a pre-made. But as far as laptops go I bought my girlfriend an Acer Extensa laptop that we both use and it seems great, and got good reviews too, and was a good deal. Acer's rep has risen today with both laptops and displays (not sure about desktops since I don't pay attention to them). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

No worries, I hope the Amazon reviews give you the info you were looking for. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Sure. Here are 35 reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-Intel-Processor/dp/B001DL2BUM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1220763679&sr=8-1 Why does the feedback have to be from a skydiver? If I went to the Amazon electronics review page and asked how people like Aerodyne products, I'd probably get no replies either. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. Nice. That one guy has his legwing all tangled up in the binder though. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Voted 4k. Usually between 3.5k and 4k when I have cameras on (large 8lb setup). Although I've gone as low as 2k with cameras on in a pinch (bigway breakoff with too much traffic around) I have been really nervous during those deployments about what I'd do with an entanglement. Without a camera helmet I'd gladly go to 2500 or so every time. Jumping a Pilot 132 @ 1.5. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. I disagree. The second shot got rid of the horrendous fisheye distortion in the horizon, 50% of the lens flare, and drew more attention to the subject matter...skydivers. I vote for the second image. The original is a good shot, but the crop brought out the best of it. I guess if you really hate distortion and lens flare, then this could be a good argument. But if "drawing attention to the skydivers" comes at the cost of removing a beautiful scenic backdrop (a sunset) then I think it's gone too far. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Oops, I just started another post on the same thing. WTG me. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Google Chrome

Beta release today, posting from it right now. First thoughts, I likey. I tested it on some large web photo galleries and it actually loads SLIGHTLY faster than FF3. More minimalist than FF3 out of the box... less clutter and wasted space at the top and bottom borders. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  12. Ding ding. You have better chances getting something published if it fits in with an article or photo spread. If you are at a fun boogie and nobody else is writing and article, write one yourself and submit a few photos that go with it. You might just get them all published. There are a few "random" photos in every issue that don't fit with an article, but your chances of getting one of those are very low, so don't count on it, no matter how good your images are... though it will still happen from time to time if you are persistent. I've probably been lucky since wingsuits are somewhat of a niche and not too many wingsuit photos get submitted, but I've had dozens of photos published in the past two years, and I am barely even have 200 jumps with a camera on my head. Certainly not bragging, since I don't consider myself incredibly talented, nor a "big name." Just got lucky and was in the right place at the right time more than once. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. Didn't they just do that? http://wii.ign.com/articles/899/899596p1.html I still have all the original Mega Man games (1-8 I believe) for PS1 imported from Japan (they're called Rock Man). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. Well I think the major driver behind the inferior graphics is polygon count and raw processing power, not resolution. Even at 480p you could make incredibly lifelike graphics. That said, some Wii games look really good, I think Mario Galaxy is beautiful. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Now you have (at least 2 Vampires in each of those 3 pics). I'm actually hard pressed to find an image of a flock on my site that doesn't have a Vampire in it. Granted it's usually Mike or Zach, but there are at least half a dozen more guys flying them in formations (with other suits) if you look through the galleries. A Vampire is a wingsuit, and as such, you will see it in wingsuit flocks. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Send in some better ones then. I liked the cover this month. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Even the world's most experienced pilots are full of unfounded opinions (like the aircraft pilot with 6000 skydives who told me we don't really get above the tail on high speed exits). Compared to most things in the world that "fly"... we really don't. Even a 3:1 GR is pathetic compared to anything else out there, even a paper airplane. But what we do is much more fun so who cares. I've seen distance contests won with suits that many say will only float, not fly. And I've seen suits that I know are badass, falling out of the flock in the hands of an idiot. PILOT > SUIT ... how many times does it need to be said? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. The best settings to use are the ones that will expose your image properly.
  19. Actually many of the wingsuit pilots I know have done 23k exits. I passed them up because it just sounded exhausting to me. Well after running the story by another friend in the office I find out he tells all sorts of incredible stories, such as being an FBI agent at 14 years old as part of a plea bargain to keep himself out of jail for hacking into the DOD mainframe accidentally. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. So we've all met fake skydivers at the bar or elsewhere. Well today, for the first time, I met one at work. A guy I've worked with for a while now, and the dialogue is a pretty good one. He comes by my desk and notices the wallpaper I have with a wingsuit photo I took (this one). Him: "Wow, that's a cool picture." Me: "Thanks, I took the photo." Him: "Yeh, I have a jacket like that at home. It has wings so you can fly. Yeh, skydiving is something I do on the weekends." Me: "Really? Me too. What kind of wingsuit do you have?" Him: "Not sure, I'd have to go home and check in my closet. It's been a year since I used it. I stopped jumping a year ago because my chute tore up." Me: "What happened?" Him: "Well, they took me up to about 25,000ft and we got out with our wingsuits on. We were flying around and throwing a football back and forth, but when I went to use my chute somebody threw something metal to me and it went into the chute and cut it." Me: "How many jumps do you have?" Him: "2k, 3k." Me: "So you have 3000 jumps but you stopped because your main blew up?" Him: "Well, it was $8000 and I didn't want to buy another one. Plus I had to use my backup chute and I really hurt my feet landing it. I was coming down at like 15 ft/sec for sure." Me: "You paid $8000 for a main? What was it?" Him: "I don't know, I bought it in France on a whim. While I was out there BASE jumping. And I used the chute for that too." Me: "What did you jump before that canopy?" Him: "I dunno, I always just rented gear from the dropzone." Me: "You rented gear for 3000 jumps? Wow. How big was your main?" Him: "About 25 feet." Me: "So you have that wingsuit at home and you're going to let me know what it is, right?" Him: "Yes." Me: "Hey, I have a friend about the same build as you and he's been looking for a used wingsuit. Could you bring it in tomorrow so I can take a look at it?" Him: "Oh, it's at my other house in another city. I'll check next time I go back there." I was holding back so hard. I can't believe he just kept digging himself deeper rather than owning up. Every day I see this guy for the rest of my life, I'm going to ask him another question just to see what kind of response he comes up with. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. Wow, you couldn't pay me to take a Dremel to any part of my camera. Hope you didn't get too much plastic dust where it shouldn't be. There's probably an easier way to cut the door if you're really set on that (though gaffer's tape is an even better solution... assuming the connectors even need to be covered). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. BLICK Thanks again to all for a good time.
  23. I forgot about this thread, but since it's been revived... I've been jumping my HC5 for about a year now, top-mounted, completely exposed, and with the connector door wide open. No problems. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. What on earth is going on in that jump? People are just floating around everywhere, nobody in slot, and then a yellow suit cuts right through the center of the flock at high speed? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
