VIDEO - Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006: Wingsuit Edition
The111 replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Thanks. Camera was Sony HC90... footage looks even better uncompressed. -
Was it this? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Considering that the mounting threads are on the bottom (for "landscape" mounting), what is the easiest way to topmount a still camera vertical ("portrait" mounting)? The only thing I can think of is to use an L-bracket as done here. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Wow, I found this site which is awesome if anybody else is wondering about this kind of stuff. Select the pulldown bar in the upper right and choose your camera. This guy tested write speeds for many different CF cards in many different cameras and logged the results. You guys who recommended the Ultra II are right. The Extreme III, on the tests I looked at, did not perform significantly faster than the Ultra II. Thanks for the replies! www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Pictures from Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006

I made a video as well, it is wingsuits only but still may be of interest. CLICK FOR VIDEO www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
Somebody please verify that this logic makes sense. I'm preparing to order a Digital Rebel XT, and want to make sure I order the right kind of CF card. If the camera can shoot a max image size of 3.3MB (average), and I want to be able to take full advantage of the 3 fps continuous capability, is it correct to say that I would need a CF card with a minimum transfer speed of at least 10MB/sec? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

choosing a ring site for my Bone Head optix helmet
The111 replied to GEatonSkyfly's topic in Photography and Video
I have an Optik Illusion with Finley concentric sight and articulated mount. It was not cheap but it was well worth the money. I found out just how much I rely on my ringsight recently... I was flying my canopy with the sight flipped up, and a friend flew by so I turned my camera on and started trying to film him without bothering to flip the ringsight down. Examined the footage on the ground and he was horribly out of frame... www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
Nice edit James, extreme footage alone does not make a video. I saw it a few days ago on SM.com and couldn't figure out who UC was. Duh... Who was that landing in the middle of a bunch of trees on a downslope? And I think you've got a problem... I saw some BM suits in your PF video. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I've been listening to Grace on a fairly regular basis for about 7 years now. It hasn't got old yet... Even as a vocalist alone he was unbelievably gifted. His skill as a musician just added to the package. See if you can find his live cover of Van Morrison's "The Way Young Lover's Do". www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Damn, that video brings back memories. I was WAY into BMX when I was younger. Probably moreso than I am into skydiving now. In fact, I think I was even at that CFB contest in 2k2. I was never too good at flatland nor did I spend a lot of time on it, but everybody in the sport knows that flatlanders have progressed much further (relatively speaking) than is possible for a ramp rider (for endurance reasons). These guys practice their craft 6+ hours A DAY. The amount of skill seen in the video is only possible after years at that commitment level. Imagine what we could do in the sky if we had that kind of exposure time to the sport. Even the most active skydivers in the world (1000 jumps/year for example) spend far less than an hour PER WEEK actually practicing in freefall. I was more into ramp riding, and ironically enough, I'm scared of skateparks these days. I went to one a year ago and rode around for a couple hours, and all I could think of (besides how out of shape I was) was all the potential ways I could break another bone on my bike. I'm not nearly so scared while skydiving (which isn't necessarily logical). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

VIDEO - Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006: Wingsuit Edition
The111 replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Thanks for the kind words everybody. Kris: I've been swooped by Perry before, and he definitely does some of the closest buzz jobs I've seen but in this video only Scotty, Mike, and Omar swoop me. James: I'm still working on it but I'm getting it right sometimes now. Becca: I had a sinus infection a couple weeks before PR, leftover from Eloy in December. After PR it started coming back and I went on antibiotics for the second time in 2 months, but I'm feeling better now, thanks to those antibiotics. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
My first though on reading this post is "why?" Although I think you may have had a reason when you explained it to me in PR, it is not obvious in this post... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

VIDEO - Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006: Wingsuit Edition
The111 replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Ok, here's my PR video. This is my first video made entirely using my own footage. I was going to incorporate footage from some other camera flyers, but I decided against it since (1) it took forever to sort through the footage from just one camera and (2) I was stoked that I actually had this much usable footage from my own camera, and liked the idea of a video that's 100% "mine". Thanks to Omar and Perry for your footage, even though I didn't use it. There was some good stuff in there, and I'm sure everybody will get a chance to see that footage in Omar's longer video. Which is why I am keeping my suit for the next billion skydives, I like it and I can keep flying it better if I don't change it! www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Stay away from this guy at all costs, or be prepared to hear him say "peck" and make stupid handshakes all day long. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
About 450 for me, video only so far. 99% of my camera jumps have been in my wingsuit. Will add stills sometime soon, maybe. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Me too. That task took me literally several days to complete though. I ended up going with ID3V1 even though it cuts most song names short - it just took too long to edit all the ID3V2's, so I wiped them out. Before I got my iPod I resisted the iPod craze furiously. I tried other mp3 players and came to the sad conclusion that the iPod did best fit my needs. But I still wish there was one that simply stored files in a directory structure and let you browse/play the files by name, just as you would on your PC. I hate that the handheld players rely on ID3. Oh, and it would be nice if somebody made a player bigger than 60GB. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I only collect albums, not songs. I have 107GB of music. 1770 albums. 21022 songs. Separate from that collection, I have 11GB of Smashing Pumpkins live performances, unreleased rarities, etc (I was way into SP in high school, obviously). There are 2368 songs in that collection. Do I win? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Or DC++ or Usenet. I don't get cable or watch TV, but that doesn't stop me from watching every episode of 24, usually within less than one hour after it airs, with NO COMMERCIALS. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

No, I don't think anyone ever will. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I'd have to guess no. Obviously you know it's possible with a PC as the go-between, and this is one reason I bring my 60GB iPod everywhere with me... it doubles as an external HDD. I don't have a laptop but I can always find somebody who does, and use it to dump pics from my camera (or somebody else's) to my iPod. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Getting the canopy smaller to pack
The111 replied to skydivermom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you do not understand the following description, get an experienced packer who does, to show you. The best trick I learned as a new packer, which I have used on every pack job since, is to do the S-folds in reverse order. Start closest to the bag, make the upper S-fold and shove that in the bag, then make the lower S-fold and put it inside. Makes it so you never have to put the WHOLE canopy in the bag at once, something I still probably couldn't do if I tried (and I haven't tried in years). The end result is identical if done correctly. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
