Not related to Ephpod, but: AFAIK there is no "setting up" needed to make your iPod an external disk. It always shows up as one (or should, hence the original poster's concerns), and I use that capability all the time to carry large files (photo, video, whatever) around. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Exactly! I still don't understand why people in this thread are saying it can't. It outputs 16:9 DV footage, simple as that (which is fine with me since I shoot my DV in 16:9 already). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

What about the guy who takes all the purty pictures of crying family members receiving the news, to post in mainstream news articles? If I had a camera shoved in my face while receiving news like that, I would not be happy. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Haha, I got your PM and yeah that was my line set up this weekend, and I did indeed get it from slacklineexpress.com. You can get a line for cheaper with a DIY setup, but I like the convenience of the setup I have. Slackine Brothers also sells a much more expensive kit but theirs has the advantage of being more secure with some sort of redundant safety that makes it usable for highlining... if you're into that kind of thing. Some very cool pics of highlining on the Slackline Bros page (slackline.com I think). Good luck slacking!

Thanks Mark. Everybody said the kit lens with the Rebel XT sucks and I shouldn't have got it, but I don't see anything wrong with these pics. I wonder what they'd look like with a "real" lens. I was also using sports mode, automatic everything, just for a trial run. I am going to learn how to use manual settings soon to get even better results. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -

Here's what you're missing. Pics from my new toy... www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
I tried that before and I'm pretty sure there's not enough space to do it. I'll check again but I don't think it's possible... unless I make the d-box hang off even more, and if I did that I'd lose a lot of mounting surface area. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Another stupid question. Do you guys who use strobo's use AT (Anti twist) plates? I realized the battery cover on my XT is underneath the strobo plate, which means I have to take it off to change the battery. I don't know how I can accurately realign it every time, though I guess for now I will see how accurate it is aligned by eyeball. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Yes, I'll cya there Chuck. Thanks for the suggestion guys, I will tape that up and in the future see if I can close that gap some by moving the camera down. One reason I posted the helmet was to see if anybody had any suggestions like that.

1. Matt 2. Perry 3. Katee 4. Medusa 5. Becca 6. Tammie 7. Jeff 8. Mark 9. Omar? 10. Any more? We've got a good flock going... I'll be there on Friday too. -
One more "stupid" question! I have looked through all the settings and manual and decided that for my first weekend of shooting I will use the "sports" mode and autofocus (yes Chuck, wingsuits move fast, but we fly relative to each other just like any other discipline ). The sports mode seems to have everything I want including disabled flash, and enabled burst mode. Any comments on this? So, my main question is this. If the flash is disabled through settings, should I still gaffer's tape it down just as an extra precaution, in case it somehow pops open? Obviously it would not be good to have open in freefall... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Chris, check out this post where I answered my own question and linked to this site, very cool info here. Select the pulldown bar in the upper right and choose your camera. This guy tested write speeds for many different CF cards in many different cameras and logged the results. The Extreme III, on the tests I looked at, did not perform significantly faster than the Ultra II. I got my Ultra II in the mail a few days ago and hopefully will get to use it this weekend. So far I've only used it to take pictures of a weird green bug I found in my room. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Wouldn't know... I stopped getting cable a while ago and this and the Simpsons are the only shows I watch. I download every episode. Exactly. Even the 2 shows I watch take way too much time out of my schedule. 24 is definitely a guilty pleasure. I realized this while flipping channels at my girlfriend's house the other day, and I found an old episode of 24. Watching it without being fully imersed in the season's storyline, it looked like a bad b-movie. They pull us into the new episodes by keeping us on the edge of our seats so we overlook certain things. They also rely on a few very predictable cyclical plot devices, the main one being: introduce evil character, make everyone want him dead, then let Jack kill him (admit it - who can't wait to see Kim's dude get what's coming to him - not necessarily being killed, but same idea - character designed for us to hate, who will get his eventually). Every once and a while they deviate from it and kill someone good to surprise us (like Edgar ). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Actually, you would assume he clocked out before meeting his cokehead sister. Which begs the question... how did he clock back in withOUT the card? I agree with your post though. Last season in particular I remember having many extremely unbelievable plot devices. But I still like the show and it keeps me in suspense. It's just that I am in this weird place where I'm alternating between sitting on the edge of my seat, and leaning back and roaring in laughter at another stupid turn in the story. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

He was definitely a by-the-book guy, but he also had an enormous ego. I found it somewhat believable. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I'm tightening them as much as I did on my last rig. I usually jump wingsuit and have no problem with that setting (the wingsuit is one reason it's hard for me to shift while under canopy). However, when I do the rare belly or tracking jump, sometimes I feel the legstraps moving around and before pulling have to reach back and make sure they're placed right (this was all on the Vector) - this would lead me to believe I keep them too loose if anything. But I do get them pretty snug on the ground. I will experiment with different tightness settings, and I will also be seeing the Aerodyne rigger this weekend to see if we can figure anything out. It may have just been a fluke and won't happen this weekend... who knows. I figured I'd ask anyway. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I tried that as much as possible, but I jump wingsuits and don't always have access to my legstraps after zipping up. I never had to put too much effort into "placing" the legstraps on my last rig. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I saved the measurements from when RWS measured me 2 years ago for my Vector (which fits great). I measured myself for the Icon, compared the numbers to the RWS measurements, and they were nearly identical. I added 1/2" to the chest and waist measurements (slightly less skinny now), and left the torso and leg unchanged. The rig seems to fit almost identically to the Vector. The amount of space between leg strap ends is about the same (about 1" I think). The hip rings are SLIGHTLY higher (less than 1" difference). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

That's an option too... but the mounting platform on the Optik Illusion tapers back on the outside, it looks like a big trapezoid from the top. Will have to take a look at that option again. I like it though in that the sharkfin would protect the outside of the camera. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

That is a good idea that actually had occurred to me briefly before. I was thinking against it since it would add a bit of width, but honestly the thumbscrew itself probably would add just as much! This may be the best solution, thanks. And it would be convenient... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I haven't started drilling yet, but last night I was positioning everything where I wanted it on my helmet and ran into a small problem. Helmet = Optik Illusion. Currently I have video topmounted, center, in a TRV style D-box. My plan was to move the video over to one side, and add a sharkfin in the center and mount the stills vertical on the other side. See the attached pic "visionair" for an illustration. I found this guy's setup in an old thread and I wanted mine to be very similar, only without strobo's (to keep the height down), and the sides would be swapped on mine (since remote plug is on opposite side on my XT). Anyway, the issue I ran into is this. I want to keep the cameras as close together as possible to keep the width of the setup down. But I realized if I put them as close as I can, that there will be no access to the screw holding the XT to the sharkfin. See attached pic "mount". Blue = DV D-box. Red = sharkfin. Green = XT still. Yellow = mounting screw. The only solutions I can come up with are: 1. Mount them as close as possible and go through the inconvenience of taking the entire sharkfin off whenever I want to remove the still camera FROM the sharkfin. 2. Mount them with a wide enough gap to be able to reach the screw with my fingers (to take this route I would have to sacrifice desired width, which I do not want to do). Other possibilities include finding a lower profile screw than the standard "thumbscrew"... perhaps one with a low profile hex head that I can slide a thin wrench in to access? Also I could add a strobo for the video which would allow me to slide it out of the way to access the thumbscrew, but I really don't want any strobo's on this assembly. Just wondering if there are any obvious options I overlooked. Really wishing I had bought FTP instead of Optik Illusion now. Was afraid of looking stupid by buying a "Pro" helmet for my first one and only putting a tiny D-box on top, but I should have taken the advice I got to "buy a helmet I could grow into, instead of one I'd grow out of". www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Not sure exactly what you mean by downconverter, but I have two friends with HC1's and have dumped their footage onto my normal DV camera. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
