Haha, so when you flare your forward speed increases? But since every other part of the logic involved is idiotic, it all evens out. And no, I'm not buying it... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I agree... I did not think that sounded so simple either. Not to mention climbing hand over hand down those tiny lines? I think I'd just slip and burn holes in my palms as I slid down... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Cool site. Why is this picture mirrored? Only my familiarity with DeLand clued me into it.

DCR-SR100... don't think I've seen this mentioned here
The111 replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
As I understand, it's not about shock. It's about the very small tolerances between the magnetic components in the drive (which move at very high speeds), an "air gap" so to speak. Pressure variations can change this gap and moving components can damage each other. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong... not sure where I got this info from. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -

So we make airtight d-boxes and pressurize them at sea level. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
DCR-SR100... don't think I've seen this mentioned here

Dur, and apparently my brain is no good on little sleep. I knew that, I swear I did. I guess for some reason I was thinking this was solid state. (I obviously did not read the specs) And for the record, "freefall" is not necessarily bad for a hard drive. It's pressure/altitude variations (as you probably know). www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
I haven't seen the video, but you don't necessarily know the full story behind those jumps. It could have been planned. My friends and I pull very close to each other all the time, in wingsuit jumps (planned, or at least impromptu planned ). Watch the intro to my Keys Boogie video (link in my signature). The obvious answer to your question is yes, throwing away intelligent breakoff procedures to search for a camera is not a good idea. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

SkydivingMovies.com upload speed improvement
The111 replied to pilotdave's topic in Photography and Video
Nice work Dave, thanks. The few times I've been up until 3am editing a movie, it has sucked to have to wait another hour while it's uploading before I go to sleep. I'm sure everybody will appreciate this... www.WingsuitPhotos.com -

Phoenix-Fly / Skydive Marche Big Way Training Camp

Not necessarily, but it is a nerdy thing to run around saying "tweet" all day. I was going to edit that pic James posted and have a word bubble saying "TWEET" coming out of your head, but I didn't have time (was too lazy). www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
You can get a brand new HC96, which is essentially the same camera repackaged, for $600. It is wider though and not as good for side-mounting. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

anybody using Canon 17-40mm f/4 L in freefall?
The111 replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
Looking at this lens for my XT. I know, I know... it's a zoom lens. But it's really not much more heavy or larger than a fixed lens. If anybody has any compelling reasons why I shouldn't buy it for skydiving, speak now or forever hold your peace. -
Yeh, I was thinking about that. My other concern is that the top surface of an OI is "trapezoidal", it tapers in at the front. If I slide the fin to the outside it will be hanging over the front "corner" of the trapezoid quite a bit... if that makes any sense. My D-box is already doing that but it doesn't look as bad for some reason. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

What do you mean by that comment about the screws? It would be a 1/4" (much more than 1mm) screw... I will admit I like the protection offered by the Dbox, but my Rebel XT is not protected and is larger and more expensive, so more vulnerable. I am making myself extra careful to avoid bashing it in the plane... why can't I take the same care with the DVcam? The surface area from my new setup is killer for wingsuiting and I'm thinking just losing a little will help a lot. But I'm still not sure what I'll do... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

This feels like another sort of stupid question, but here goes. Am considering getting rid of D-box on my topmounted DV cam (HC90) to conserve space. Although I will admit the D-box has saved me more than once when I stupidly ran my head into the bar on the Otter door. Anyway, my stupid question is this - has anyone ever had the relative wind push their zoom lever around? I haven't seen many other DVcams up close since the HC90 is the only one I've had, so I don't know what most zoom levers look like, but the zoom lever seems kind of big and I do a lot of backflying (and even some "headdown" wingsuit stuff ) and it just really seems like that lever would move. I guess if it did I'd just gaffer's tape it like I will have to do with the LCD anyway... www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Nope, I guess I'm an idiot for paying $50 for the Bonehead sharkfin. Will look into making my own if I can't get this one to fit on the new setup. The only reason I used the QRS is because with the Dbox outside the sharkfin, there is not room for a standard 1/4" screw head (it wouldn't be accessible, at least). If I swap the camera sides and have sharkfin outside, I can get rid of the QRS and use a standard screw. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
-
Good point. I actually may redo the whole setup sometime soon anyway, try to put the sharkfin on the outside with top of camera facing center... will probably have to get rid of box on DVcam to make this fit. Will try to keep it all balanced when I do. And yes I'm gonna get a better lens once I can make up my mind on one.

Slightly off center to the left... but not nearly as much as a sidemount. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

We only managed one flock on Sunday (I did at least), but here's a few pics from that one. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
Thanks for the tips Iwan, I will try it out. Do you recommend manual focus too? It seems that just short of inifinity gets everything in focus. The sports mode and autofocus seemed to work for my "trial run" though. Check out the pictures I posted here, with cheap kit lens even. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Anybody know anything about this magazine, a website for it or somebody I can contact about it? I think I want to buy their 2006 calendar for one of the pictures, if it's not too late. I googled and couldn't find anything. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
