  1. Just opened the box and started playing with it, haven't even mounted it yet, and here are a few basic questions I've already come up with. I'm sure the info is buried in a thread here somewhere but I can't seem to find it. 1. The little rubber flipup cover for the 2.5mm plug port. Do you break that off (like I already did on plastic one on my DV cam) or do you try to leave it intact somehow? 2. Zoom lens. Even though I've read it's not that great, I went with the 18-55 kit lens for a starter. I can learn on it and upgrade when/if I want. When using a zoom lens in freefall environment, do you gaffer's tape the "zoom cylinder" in place to prevent it from moving in freefall? Just by putting a small amount of pressure on the lens (along the axis) it seems it will change settings easily. I will probably have more questions later, so stay tuned! Don't leave the edge of your seats! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. I've searched and found many threads about legstraps causing pain, but these were all different. The common case seems to be an improperly fitting harness, and bruised inner thighs. I got a new rig which fits me like a glove. It happens to be an Icon but I am positive that has nothing to do with it. Basically, I am experiencing a lot of pain from my legstraps digging into my, er, pelvic zone I guess is the best way to describe it. I'm not getting my balls crushed or anything like that (which would be unbearable obviously). But it's definitely not my thighs... it's like it's just past my thighs, on the edge of a bone which I guess is my pelvis. The pain on opening was pretty bad, and then sitting in the harness it was almost like the legstraps were riding up too high (and I could not manage to reposition them no matter what I tried) and the pain was constant for the whole canopy ride (and worse when I turned and increased the line loading, obviously). Any ideas? Seems I need the straps to sit a bit lower. I had them pretty tight, it seemed like the same tightness I used on my old rig (also custom fit) and that worked fine there. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. I also noticed the "my first canopy was a 135" thing and did a sort of double-take... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. This will be a good one, folks. Scary Perry will be there, he and I will have demo suits from Bird-Man and Phoenix Fly, and we will have first flight courses for new birds. For all you experienced flockers, don't miss it. We have birds coming from all over the state, including several from the Zflock. Whether you are flocking or not, this is going to be a COOL boogie. Denis talked to me about all the stuff he has planned and it sounds like a blast.
  5. Alright!! Now one of you guys needs to give Omar a ride too... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. It usually takes me 5-10 minutes to hook up a suit, depending on how much of a hurry I'm in. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Great job and great story Danny. Welcome to life. People often suck. I'll think about it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. Correct his heading, correct his body position, tell him to pull or check his altimeter, etc... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. You can get one brand new, shipped for about $640 (search pricegrabber.com for reliable online retailers). The PC1000 is $800, the HC1 is $1340 (this in response to a post earlier where you said there wasn't a large price diff between the 3). It fits fairly well in one of the TRV boxes from Bonehead (they say which one on their site, I think it's the "19/22/23" box IIRC). Not a perfect fit and I had to trim down part of the sleeve sticking out the front around the lens, and I added some shims inside, but the box definitely works. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Dude, the HC90 is the "followup" tp the PC330/350 in Sony's lineup. It has excellent picture quality and color and does very well in low light. Check out my Puerto Rico video (link in my sig) for an idea what the footage looks like (this is compressed obviously... but even on a DVD I cannot tell the difference from HC1 footage - I've compared them side by side for same jumps). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. Looks like it might be Jay Epstein but it's hard to tell. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. Dude, is this the picture saying "Scott Campos lands from a sunset wingsuit jump?" That is not Campos (nor could it be, since he was in Colombia at the time). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. he does say to fax or call it in if you dont want to submit via email (ie unsecure) That's exactly what I said in my post. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. I'm not complaining, but I did notice that the online registration is not secure, so I would advise against putting your CC info in there. But it's an easy fix since you gave us the option of faxing it in.
  15. Ok, that leaves 8 beers for me. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Awesome, thanks Scott and Rob. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. Happy BirDday, freak! Now here are 37 beers for 37 years. You have to drink them all before bed. Go! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. does it matter? quit reading into things too much. Damn engineers Not really, answer is yes either way. But I will read into things as much as I want, thank you very much! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Some of these need clarification, Zach. Does "pulled your reserve" mean had a reserve ride? Does meeting (and sleeping with) someone from DZ.com mean you had to know them on DZ.com FIRST, or simply that they use DZ.com also? I noticed somebody put that he had slept with someone from DZ.com, but NOT met anybody from DZ.com. Hmm... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. Well, the camera shoots in "16:9", but I think Jarno explained in a post somewhere (the photo forum perhaps) that it's not actually 16:9 but just pre-cropped 4:3 footage... i.e. that I'd be better off shooting standard and cropping in post since I'd have more framing options. I won't pretend to know enough about my camera to know if that's true or not. I just shoot with it on the "16:9" setting because it's easier. And the LCD for my camera is 16:9. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. I'm not sure I understand why your L/D would constantly increase for the first 30 seconds of flight, unless you were consciously maxing it out more and more. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

    Incident Report

Quick question. Why was the first chopper not able to get a backpack on a rope to reach you, while the second chopper was able to get a person on a rope to reach you? I guess the obvious answer would be a longer rope, and hovering higher up (above instead of in front of the cliff). www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Read my reply again, and repeat after me - I didn't download it from a "site". www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I didn't download it from a website. I got it off of Usenet, which is sort of a pain in the ass to use if you don't know how. Other places you will find ripped TV episodes for download are mIRC, bittorrents, and DC++ (possibly the easiest of all those to use, but still requires a bit of configuration). Once you learn how to use any of these methods it is very easy to find just about anything you want. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

When did that happen? I must have missed it. Unless it was in the preview for next week... I don't have cable so I download the episodes (commercial free ) but never see previews for the following week. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
