  1. They used the same photo twice in that layout? It is a very good photo though... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. Kris, Have you tried taking your question straight to PF? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. I use that lens on my Rebel XT and get great images. Check out my site for examples. People told me that I needed to trash that lens because it would not take decent pictures, but I have had pictures from that lens published more than once. The nice things about it are that it's cheap (the reason I'm still jumping it) and it's light (the one thing I'll miss about it when I do buy a "real" lens). I didn't have much luck with the autofocus, so I tape down both the zoom and focus rings. It is a bitch to get the focus just right, but it works best for me that way. There is a review of the lens at www.photozone.de which states that while it is not the best overall zoom lens, if you shoot at the widest setting (18mm), with an aperture around f/8 to f/11 (my goal anyway), that it gets very decent results in that specific range. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. Thanks, that makes more sense. It does, but a lot of people forget to pass through the loop, which account for many lost wings in freefall, even during normal belly flight. I've caught more than one new Prodigy owner on the plane with their stuff hooked up wrong. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Hey Baxter, it's a Rebel XT (definitely smaller and lighter than your 30D ) and the cheapo kit lens 18-55mm (zoomed out all the way). Everybody told me to trash that lens when I got the camera because it would not get decent photos, but I'm a cheapskate so I wanted to see what I could do with it, and it actually seems to be working ok for now. We'll see how long it lasts, the build quality is pretty questionable, but for now it's working. One day, eventually I'll get a "real" lens. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. Thing is, between the wing attachment loop and the snaps, there is a very tight nylon web loop/slot that the snap strip must slip through. The one I handled, it seemed pretty much impossible to undo the snap by pulling on the wing in any direction. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. If you hadn't already figured this out, that wing was almost definitely hooked up wrong. nah they were hooked up correctly. I had a wingsuit instructor doublecheck my setup. Its just that the prodigy is not designed for aerobatics... I just wasn't told that before I tried barrel rolls in it. Look at this photo. I see no possible way for that to come undone while backflying, or doing anysort of acrobatics. I agree that the Prodigy is not intended for acrobatics, but that does not mean it will fall apart if you attempt it. Perhaps somebody from PF can chime in. James? Am I overlooking something? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. You'd be amazed how many skydivers are terrified of it and refuse to try it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Actually, they cut down those trees and the slackline is gone. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Hey Lisa, that's my line in the pics Ashley posted, at Sebastian (where I met you!). Glad you found slacking, it's fun. It's a staple of every rock climber's diet, but it's funny those guys brought it to you since a lot of DZ's have them already. Guess there's another similarity between our sports. Maybe there is a third forum HH need to partner with, slackline forums? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  12. In a post earlier today I mentioned that the one chip models have better low light performance. I read this in several places when I was researching which camera to buy last year. I don't know how significant the difference is, but I do know that the HC90 is supposed to be at least somewhat better than the PC1000 as far as low light. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. Hypothetical question. Say I try to get permission to use music from say, Tool (a fairly "big" band with a lot of sales, I'm sure) to use a song of theirs in a short skydiving video which would generate no profit but which would be distributed publicly on a website. Firstly, I'd have no idea where to start. I'm guessing it wouldn't be as easy as one phone call. But assuming I could figure out how to get it all done... Secondly, how much would a "normal" fee for this type of thing be? I realize the true answer probably falls in a very broad range, but I'd guess you have a much better idea of that broad range than I do, so clue me in. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. Congrats man, learn to fly them well and you will be able to go on some flocks if you're not too big or the forward speed isn't too high. Or convince a friend to buy a suit also. I haven't tried an Impact (I haven't tried EITHER tracking suit actually), but you might want to try both before buying one. Many local wingsuit pilots near you? Or just go solo and have fun.
  15. I thought about that, but as far as the non-skydiving stuff, this really is more of a photo gallery to share with friends and family, I just figured I'd stick it on the same site since it's easy. Even with the skydiving stuff, I gave it a clean somewhat professional look and made ordering prints possible, but at the same time I'm just having a good time, hence the goofy captions. I will be there, have to see you guys once a year. And if you remember correctly, I never actually got to play the game! Now you need to make sure there will be a good place to set up our slacklines this year, I want to see your skills! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. VERY nice work James, I think that's one of the better WS videos I've seen, maybe it's just that I haven't jumped in a few weeks but that video got me all stoked and wanting to fly! Cool stuff: 1. Outside footage of the CRW flyby 2. BASE backflying (I think?)... which made me wonder, has anyone yet exited an object on their back, in a WS? 3. The handcam bigway exit angle 4. In that one tight doorway shot it almost looked like somebody exited from his knees? 5. The yellowsuit guy with the downfacing top camera, and switch to upfacing foot camera angle on deployment, really cool effect there That one will be tough to beat. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. I could be wrong but I can't ever remember seeing any transitions in a "professional" skydiving movie. If they are there they obviously don't demand attention, since I can't remember them. In my few videos I only used fades, cross-fades, and cuts. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. I have posted probably a couple dozen times about the differences between the HC2x, 3x, 4x, and 9x line, and about the small (but significant) differences from the 20->26, 32->36, 42->46, but NOT the 90->96 (LANC being removed). Also mentioned less than 10 days ago about the HC9x NOT replacing the PC1000, they were both running in parallel at the same time. Here's a search, I just realized that wildcards work. Without the wildcard I couldn't find any of my old posts. The short answer to your question is that neither is "as good" as the other. The HC9x has better low light performance, the PC1000 has better color. The differences are negligible, both produce very good video. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. That's a good point too. I had no video experience when I got my DV camera, and had no real photo experience since high school years ago. But I read both manuals and also read a LOT on other (non-skydiving) photography websites and figured out enough in one week of research that I like to think my footage/photos are at least decent. But if you're not the "crash course" type of person, then I guess you have a point about taking time to learn the equipment. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. That's a bad idea for two reasons. 1. People never do that. If I had the time I would do a search and find the thread on here where a guy said the EXACT same thing. And then 2 weeks later says "hey I got my RAWA and PCxxx and am trying it out tomorrow!" 2. If you actually do manage to do as planned (buy a camera and wait to use it), that's foolish since technology and prices are ALWAYS changing in our favor. Whatever you get will always be outdated soon, so don't buy it until you're ready to use it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. My own. www.matthoover.com Just finished the site this weekend, I sort of copied the color scheme from another gallery I saw, but mostly it's my own simplistic design. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. Gliders and airplanes are also risks, I spent a whole jump backflying solo once and flipped over at 6k to see a glider in front of me! Even if you're the only jumper in the sky, flying blind will always be a risk. And even if you are under a flock, don't assume you're safe because they're looking where they're going. Ever seen a whole flock buzz a tandem? It happens. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. Similar to everyone else has said: follow a road or other straight line, only it can't be straight under you. When you're learning to fly straight on your belly you use a straight line directly underneath. On your back, find a straight line off to the side a couple miles, you will easily be able to keep your eye on it through the transition and while on your back. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. He's also got a camera quick release growing out of his head? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  25. I've read it a few times, it was the first investing book I got. Cash flow is actually my goal. But I don't have the means to start right now (and a Walgreens building is certainly out of my league ), nor is the market at this moment conducive to purchasing for cash flow - though I predict it will be within 5 years or so. "Irrational exuberance" is an even better definition of the real estate market in the few years AFTER that book was written. Cash flow is king, but only if you can afford it. There are many people today with condos on their hands that they CANNOT cash flow, because of their irrational exuberance going into the purchase. The RE book which interests me most right now is Deals on Wheels by Lonnie Scruggs, someone who quit the cashflow business (notice I said business, not game) after 30 years to buy cheap mobile homes and sell high interest notes on them. Until I can afford a Walgreens building, I think Lonnie's method may be a good one. I'm young and need to start somewhere. The only thing I am putting in stocks is my 401k, and the only reason I'm doing that is because of the match from my employer, which is a huge bonus. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
