Try paying attention to unmarked cars that pace you when driving through VA. 4 tickets in 9 years. Used to be aggressive, now go with the flow and still got busted in VA. At least it's only $100. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Sony 30Gb HD Camcorder - DCR-SR90E - up to skydiving?
The111 replied to xavenger's topic in Photography and Video
Freefall is irrelevant, since the altitude (pressure) alone is enough to damage the drive. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
So the XTi will have a higher pixel count than the 20/30D, interesting... wonder when the followup to those two is coming out? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Just for further conversation: Even if you bought the CD, you'd still be in the wrong legally to use it in a video, right? I always see tandem videos playing at DZ's with songs by U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. I always assumed these DZ's did not have licensing permission from these giant bands. Am I right or wrong? FWIW, I'm not taking any sides, just wondering about the legalities of what goes on. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

If you still need Terry's contact info, PM me, I have his phone # and email somewhere. His website was sprinc.org but it has been down for a while I think. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I've been thinking about this more and more, since I don't consider myself a very good canopy pilot I've been wondering why I can do what people are saying is so hard. I wonder if it has something to do with my wingsuit/harness connection? I'll bet that when I lean to the side my wingsuit is actually pulling down on the MLW on one side, which may be a more off-center pull than just off-center pressure on a legstrap. Possible? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

What you're talking about is a boundary layer. I'm curious what the actual distribution is from 0-1000ft for a given wind intensity, but I would guess that the gradient is very negligible. I mean, standing on the ground we can still feel very strong winds. Although, theoretically, the winds must be 0 mph at 0 ft. Anybody have any real data to answer this question? I have no idea. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I don't think I agree, Pentagram. I think the reason we are more stable on our belly is (1) we have much more experience flying that way, so more skills and (2) we have a better visual reference - the earth - which is more natural compared to our normal life. You may have a point that some wingsuits are more stable on the belly (since the inflation adds stability), but the tracking example supports my argument, I think. The human body wasn't "designed" to fly up or down. It's easier belly down for mental reasons, not physical ones. Here's an even better example. I never learned to fly headdown, and found it much harder than sitflying. But I have heard that it is actually much easier than sitting, once you get your brain oriented right. And it makes sense, it looks much more stable and natural (like a lawn dart) than a sit. Yet it's more difficult for most people to learn. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Weird since I can't think of anybody in Tampa who doesn't lean heavily toward PF. And yes James, I realize this is a matter of history and not "BM vs PF", but in reality "history is written by the winners" is applicable, or in this case history is slanted by the brandwar. That comment is NOT pointing fingers at anyone or any side, and I am not taking sides (I just ordered an Acro though ) and I don't know the truth to the matter. All I'm saying is it surprises me that somebody in Tampa made that edit. Somebody who was at Summerfest, who is now in Tampa. Surely that narrows down your search. Gotta be somebody I know. But, to get a bit more pensive: I just referenced the "history is written by the winners" quote. Again, I don't know the truth to this story, but if you (James) and our mystery Summerfest->Tampa traveler both have opposite opinions of the same history, you really can't stop him from making his edits, based on the way a Wiki works (I think). Although it does seem cowardly that he won't own up to his edits, which you are at least doing, even posting your email next to your last edit. But even when you find out who he is, will that solve anything? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

What you should never say to a Police Officer.
The111 replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
There is some state, Louisiana I think, where it is ok for the passenger to have an open container. The cops hate this because the driver can just "hand it off" before they get to the car. www.WingsuitPhotos.com -
I agree, on my Spectre 170 @ 1.1 (previously mentioned) I never did anything special with chest strap or slider. I could do 180's or whatever I needed, with harness input, while unzipping my wingsuit. The brakes were still stowed... perhaps that makes it easier? www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Fixed it for you. There's the market psychology I referred to. Over the past 3 years everybody bought real estate whether they could afford it or not, many on the notion that "you are guaranteed a huge appreciation". This is one of the classic signs of a speculation frenzy, or bubble. Those who say real estate never depreciates need to examine the late 1920's (Great Depression anyone?) and the early 1970's. Many of those who participated in the feeding frenzy are now experiencing a drastic reversal in their emotions (which drive the market) during this period, the beginning of the decline. Greed and fear, the two major emotions that drive market cycles. I took your stance (refusal to pay) several years ago when I started looking for my first house. I've been saving and renting since then. By 2010 I will be ready to buy a house at 1990 prices (and I'll have almost enough savings to buy it 100% cash)... if it takes 5 more years after that I can wait, but it is already happening. I cannot predict the speed of the decline, but its onset is undeniable. Get ready to see all the HELOC purchased Hummers disappear from the streets too. I for one am looking forward to it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Well here's a first. I just got spammed by PM. By another DZ.com member, advertising his own forums and "free online coaching". Anybody else? PM spamming must be very time consuming since, AFAIK, you can only PM one user at a time. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

See attached picture: XT + HC90 on top of my Illusion. The HC3 is only about 0.5" wider than the HC90, it would be possible. However, that much weight supported by only a chincup is not very comfortable, which is why I'm working on a rear-entry system helmet. I know someone who has 30D + HC1 on top of Illusion. Both those cameras are huge. It does not work very well for him, it's just too much for the helmet. But it is possible. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Good point, but on the flipside I chose not to get an FTP when I started shooting video only, just so I wouldn't look like "that guy". Then when I needed to add stills I had no good top plate real estate left and am left with a ridiculously crowded Optik Illusion. So maybe sometimes "that guy" is smart and has a reason for doing what he's doing (like using a helmet he can expand on later). In my case it turns out ok since I don't want an FTP anymore, since my Wes CCM copy will be much better, if I can ever freaking finish it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I always turned my Spectre 170 @ 1.1 with harness input, while unzipping my wingsuit. Sort of a combination between picking up one knee toward my chest, and leaning the other way. It was a very gentle turn, but it got me headed where I needed to be. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

We managed 6 mags (5 countries) for Flock & Dock. Very nice job on that BPA cover shot, very nice photo too! Hope somebody is submitting to USA mags.

What is an example of a fashion gizmo that somebody is mounting on his camera helmet? You lost me with that comment. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

I was not intending to talk down to you. Gotta have a thick skin in this sport and on these forums, you should know that. I think Pentagram (Dr. Parkin) has offered the best explanation, and the only explanation - you are varying your rate of turn, initiation altitude, or some other relevant variable, due to your perception of movement (groundspeed). P.S. You speak English very well for a second language, I would not have guessed.

That was my point exactly. Since you aren't getting those super long flight times on BASE jumps, I wouldn't think you'd have to worry about forearm cramps (unless your endurance is worse than mine, and mine sucks!). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
