Hi Anvil I dodged the the draft in 1966 by joining the U.S. Air force. College deferments were only available to people who could afford to attend college or had excellant grades and could get one of the few scholarships. In N.Y. state the waiting list for the natiaonal guard was way to long. like yr's. From the time I turned 18 I had about 12 month's to figure out how to avoid the draft or get drafted. BTW I did get a deferment at my draft physical. Classificication 1SH. The physical took place at the famous "Whitehall st." for those of you who have seen the movie Alices resturant (group W bench) Arlo Guthrie. How do you get a 1SH deferment on your draft card? Easy if your 18yo and still in H.S. In 6 month's it automaticaly changes to 1A. In 1966 all you had to do was call up the local draft board give them your registration number with a classification of 1A and they could give you a estimated date you were going to be "ripped from the arms of your mommy or sweetheart" to do your duty and protect your country from the dirty commie's bastards in SEA and the domino theory. Deferments and openings in the National guard Back then were only for Folks that were rich 2S, had the right stuff (Connections) or had serius problems that couldn't be overlooked 4F. Personaly I don't have any problems with the dirty yellow cowards who split for canada to "dodge the draft" I've got problems with the rich and powerful who dodged the draft, by going to college 2S deferment or jumping the line at the National guard because they showed a special talent. Wonder what happened to the poor slob who was next in line? BTW I still have my Draft Card from 1965. which is against the law. We were required to turn them in when we went into the service of our country. If there's going to be a draft sign everyone up regardless of race, gender or social econimic and do a draft by a lottery system. What the hell, lots of people like to play lotto are you willing to do it with your childrens lives or limbs? Anyone have a kid thats15- 16 YO now. If there's a draft their going to be playing in the big lotto of life because the "War on Terror" won't be over by the time their of draft age. Hi RMH I have to agree with quade I talked with a guy a long time ago who had been married 15 yr's kids and all that stuff and then got divorced. I was young and dunb and asked him wtf? He explained that when they got married he was a bull rideing cowboy and she was a cowgirl. Over the year he became a dope smoking skydiver and the wife was still a cowgirl. So they just grew apart until it was untolerable and they got divorced. Of course there always the situation where in some marriage one of there are hidden agenda's ego's excess baggage, etc. In 3 month's the boss and i will be married for 30 yr's. The funny thing is the president doesn't initiate a draft. Congress does. Once it is voted on and passed only then does the POTUS sign legislation which starts the draft. Hi PhreeZone You said a fatality happened based on first hand info and USPA didn't find out about it I believe you but but .... I guess never say never... As far as the stats for fatalities go I realize every fatality is a tragedy and even one is one to many. But just looking at the numbers in the U.S. 2004 and assuming the number are relatively accurate and there isn't a massive upsurge for the rest of the yr. IMO 2004 will be a record yr for the low number of fatailities.

Hi SS Very strange takeing your drivers liscense until you show up in court, I'd be afraid it would get lost in the system hopefully it stay atached to the ticket, they never lose those. Gotten tickets in Wa, Co, Ks, Mo, Ill, no one ever took my liscense. The cop in Ill ecorted me to a maibox so I could pay the fine on the spot. Since I was just passing thru. He told me no cash would have to go to see the judge on monday. free room and board. I have gotten out of a couple tickets by doing a "man trick" When the cop says he clocked me I just start crying, sometimes the cops to embaressed to see a grown man cry and lets me go

Life in prison without parole does not eliminate the possibility of a convict ESCAPING -- and this DOES happen. To argue that there is zero chance of it is to lie through one's teeth. Execution is the only way to be assured a murderer will never kill again. There should be no such thing as a life sentence with anything other than "absolutely no parole or release, ever, until death." I think that the killers should also never have their bodies released. The prison system should cremate them and dispose of the ashes in the trash. Yet another deterrent to being a murderer: your family does not even get to have your remains for a "proper" burial. In the seattle metro plex (King county) The Green river serial murder (Ridgeway) coped a Guilty plea to murder 47 times. In exchange for his plea the court took the death penalty off the table. This plea arrangement was driven by economic's, too many victims/lawyers. According to the prosecuter by Mr ridgeway confessing and leading the police to some of the remains it gave closure to some of the families that weren't sure what had happened to their loved ones. MR Ridgeway got sentenced to 47 lifr term w/o the chance of parole. Some defense lawyers in the area are already argueing that if a confessed 47 time killer can get life w/o parole, why can't their clients who only killed a few people or just one, get the same sentence. Argue on R.I.P.
