Ahhh! Want to buy, but I know so little...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
First, thanks to all for helping me! Lisa: How many rides is too many when buying a used reserve? I can understand that it'll be difficult to pack, and i'm not all that great a packer anyhow, i'm doing a psycho pack cuz the pro pack inflates too fast 4 me to get it in the bag. . . otoh, if I buy a container for a 150, and the smallest I can fit in there is a 120, which i'd load at about 1.7:1, I'll still get my $$ worth out of it... but, a container made for a 150, which I don't really plan on jumping for too long, is going to be larger than one made for a 135. And, in reality, i'll probably make 15-20 jumps a month, that's 200+ jumps a year, in 4 years/700-800jumps, i'll likely want to load a bit heavier than 1.7:1, considering I want to swoop, and i'd then be forced into a new rig rather than just having to buy a new canopy. Aren't you working in Sebastian soon/now? You guys do this, right? Hookit: , thanks for the low down on the options I feel like a kid in a candy store, man, oo, one of those, yea, one of those, too, hehehe. Aviatrr, i'll probably be up that way, let me know when you'll be around. Although, i'm not trying to buy a rig made for a 120, but it'll give me an idea of what hell it really is. :) thx again! Angela. -
What was this thread about, again? Angela.

So, you gonna come out of that tunnel and jump student gear? Um, ya, get the rig. Then, save up and do the tunnel thing if that's what u wanna do, but what the hell good is knowing how to skydive when you can only make half of the skydives you could if you didn't have to rent gear? ! Angela.

- have and display one or more tattoos nope - smoke and often require at least one cigarrette between loads only smoke occassionally - have body piercings (ears don't count anymore) ok, i've got my belly pierced:) - can drink heavily in the evening and be on the first load the next morning first load, eeek!@ - have some kind of attitude (doesn't really matter what kind Don't we ALL have attitude, tho? Not just skydivers... I know I had one b4 I started skydiving. - come across as a bit touched (and by touched, I mean crazy) Ok, you got me. - live a relatively non-materialistic lifestyle (money isn't good for much except jumps and beer!) IS there anything else ? - live in the present (can't really execute emergency procedures if you're daydreaming about the future, now, can you?) I think about the future, i'm in school, anyhow. - live from jump to jump (always thinking about that next fix) You'll get there. . . quickly:) - consider themselves good looking (the guys) and have skydiving SOs (the gals) that are good looking I'm a chick... and a single one at that. - seem to actually live (!) at the drop zone nope, 1.5hrs. Sometimes I drive 3.5hrs to go to others. - can easily pack in 10 minutes or less (mostly, it appears, because their canopy is about the size of a trashbag) I just started, so packing isn't really my best talent. I can unpack really fast, tho:) haha. - have a seemingly unending source of money (maybe something illegal going on here, like in that documentary CUTAWAY about that cop... what's his name... Stephen Baldwin or something) HA! I wish! It's gonna catch up with me realll soon. - (some) inexplicably live nomadic lifestyles (how high do you have to exit to actually reach the next DZ?) Man, that would be cool! So, what's an aspiring skydiver to do? Dude, if you want to skydive, do it, stop making excuses. The people i've met in skydiving have been, for the most part, pretty accepting people. I don't think you're required to have tatoos or smoke, you just have to jump out of planes.

SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi, thanks for replying. I'll definitely check it out! I could buy used, but not sure if I want to go that route unless its a real steal. I just downsized to the Sabre II 150, and, to be honest, I don't see myself under it for all that long. I know I need to learn it b4 downsizing, and i'm willing, but I would like to go faster for sure. Is it really that bad to stuff a large canopy in a small container? Even if just for a couple months at most? I really hate renting, it's quite costly! Another thing, they take a while to mfg, by the time I get it, I might not even be jumping the 150. I won't have the $$ until October 3rd, so i've got some time to consider these things. Yeah, I really want tie dye, soft reserve handle, freefly pud, stainless steel sounds nice, hmm, wonder if you need quilted backpad, oh, man, this could get really pricey! thx!! Angela. -
I intend to buy one when I have the $$, but for now, i'm not going to have one. I've made several jumps with no cypres, I know there is the risk of dying, but that is part of the sport. Like I said, tho, i'll have one when I can afford one, who knows, it may well save my life one day. I think they're an awesome device! For now, i'll just have to rely on myself and hope for the best. Angela.

Why do you prefer infinity? How do I know which rig is really more comfortable, all of them claim superior comfort, etc. Also, there are like thousands of options normally, how do you know what you can and can't live without. I mean, you hate to pass up a 50$ option that you really want later. But, those can really add up, too. urrg. thx ! angela. -
Release from stress Awesome feeling Rush Fun Always something to learn And, then there are the awesome people you meet, too:) Not to mention the sexy skydiving men Angela. Angela.

Ivan, I read up on the wings, and OMG, there are way too many 'options'. I have no clue what I would need, except maybe tie dye haha. Base price is 1430 I assume this just the container/harness, right? by the time i've picked options, i'll have no $$ left for a reserve:( And, what kind of BOC pouch would be good? Is it necessary to upgrade from plain old spandex crap? " Bottom of Container Pouches - To avoid the hassle of replacing a spandex BOC pocket every 200-300 jumps, we also offer a cordura pouch which is designed into the container. It is manufactured with the same 1000D cordura as the container to reduce wear and tear. We have also developed a larger, spacious pouch to allow the pilot chute to be flattened, giving the bottom of the container a cleaner, sleek look. " Galen, that's great for ya! I must have freefly friendly, and man those Sabres open hard, that doesn't hurt ur back? I was glad to start renting Sabre II's, i'll tell ya. Great deal, tho! ! Specially with AAD. :) Angela. -
Purposely screwed up landings..?

Purposely screwed up landings..?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok, say in 10 or 20 more jumps, I want to purposely land crosswind a few times to learn to deal with it, is that normal/acceptable? thoughts? thx. angela . -

I have read lots, but still am scared to buy. I will have about 2000$ to play with next month, and i'm in desperate need of gear!! I am not sure if I want new or used. I'm kinda leaning toward new, cuz, it's new, and I can get my own colors (i'm a priss like that), it will be made for me, etc. I am at least wanting to get a container and reserve, tho, and i'm not sure I can get both new for 2000$, is buying a used reserve a no-no? Ok, in order of importance for the container/harness: *Comfort (I cannot spend more than another month jumping big heavy uncomfortable gear) *Freefly friendly (must!) *Compact (big sux) *Something I can use for a LONG time. (i'd rather buy something smaller and it be a bitch to pack a larger chute in, than buy for the larger chute) So, i've got this list of freefly friendly gear, and no clue as to what to do. Should I drive up to Deland and go around to the mfgs there? Also, someone told me you can usually expect to pay up to 25% less than the list price, but I never get good deals, do you have to barder? I'm frusterated. I'd like to get a rig made for a 135 main/ at least a 135 reserve, I do plan to stuff a 150 main in it for a while so it does have to fit, even if it only barely fits. Any recommends on rigs? I have heard everything from Javelin to Vortex (tho i'm not keen on the idea of buying out of country) I MUST have something! Thanks SO much! Angela. -
THAT was a funny video!! Cats are cute... However, I am still a dog person Angela.

Thanks everyone. I did end up flying the 150 canopy this weekend and had fun. I know that on a no wind day it might not have been so fun, and I plan on making lots of jumps on it. I can pretty much land on target, it's just my planning far ahead sux, so I end up doing a roundish 360 instead of a 'pattern', if you know what I mean... this is probably due to my downsizing and not having much time on these new canopies to judge how fast i'm going to get there. I certainly need lots more landings. Anyhow, I know I am not the best canopy pilot at 20+ jumps, but i'm working on it and hopefully i'll hear back from Scott soon and get up there to take the class. Thanks again. Angela.

Wow!! Thanks to everyone for the acknowledgement and congrads. I had a great time in z-hills and certainly on that dive! I did have to arch really hard, making my back a bit sore later on. I am very new at this, done a couple of fumbled 2-ways but that's it. The ONLY reason I was able to pull off this dive was becuz I jumped with the BEST... and they were able to keep track of me. They said I did well, tho, which is great to hear -
Dammit!! (pssst,... can u sneak me in? ) Angela.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing, but not as cool as Michele's. Something you're afraid of just needs to be confronted, and it'll turn out that it isn't so bad/scary afterall. . . That, or you watch a lot of Discovery Channel, lol!! Angela. (no expert, tho! )
-
Awesome!! Congrads, man! I know that felt good:) Still working on undergrad credits, I can only imagine how great you must feel right now !! Angela.

I really like my body, but if I had to change something, i'd tighten up my rear end a bit, and maybe work on my inner thighs a little, well, maybe just get more into yoga, everything would look a little nicer. Other than that, i'm not all that thrilled with having freckles, but, I suppose they are part of who I am, and so I'd feel quite odd to change that. Wish my hair had more body and was red, it's flat, boring, and I highlight it blonde to give it some umph. I would say I want to be taller, but then i'd be more limited in dating since I like a guy to be taller than me. Angela.

Verry niiiiiiice! Angela

I definitely agree with jumping something smaller before going for a 170. That is going to be a big change. Most dzs rent gear that isn't student gear, are there any places around there like that? That way like Chrisky said, you could at least jump something in between before downsizing to a 170 canopy. I am also new at this, 26 jumps thusfar, and learned on a 190 canopy, I downsized to a 170 and will be trying out a 150 this weekend. When I went from a 190 to a 170, that was a huge difference. It is faster, turns are more responsive. I couldn't imagine going directly from a 280 to a 170, that change is going to be HUGE! I jumped a 210 for 3 jumps and that canopy was very forgiving and boring, I really didn't even have to flare as it didn't make much difference I was going so slow. So, to be landing standing up on a 280sf at your weigh is not surprising, I wouldn't think. I weigh 125, btw. Good luck. Definitely demo some gear b4 buying:) If you're serious about buying a rig, I think most manufacturers will send one to you to demo for some time. Check out Sun Path to demo a Javelin, or other manufacturers. Shops also demo canopies. Angela.

Why are we unfortunate for not having big boobs? I just don't get it. I kinda think i'm more fortunate... mine wont sag when I get old. haha. Angela.
