AFF jump #2 - critique wanted!
SkydiveNFlorida replied to mailin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wow, that's quite a story, lol! :) Sounds like you're pretty aware, you recall everything. Yeah, pulling is pretty important, but i'm sure you'll do it next time! Sounds like you were a bit nervous, which will go away with time (how much depends on the person i'd suppose, and probably with how current you stay). Try to make as many jumps as you can afford to do, the closer they are to one another, the less nervous you'll be, and the less likely you'll be to forget things. I had the same problem with my ears for a while. Now they've just gotten used to it. I was taking like 3 sudafed non-drowsy pills b4 jumping sometimes. You can clear your ears on your way up by swallowing and yawning, and on the way down you can val salva (plug nose, blow gently ). Have a blast, get back there as soon as you can:) Angela. -
I ended up buying a Javelin TJN with a b-15 harness which fits me perfectly:) Unfortunately, my reserve which should have been here today, is stuck in transit until Monday:( Angela.
-
Leave them. That simple. Because if they'd do it once, they aren't ready to commit, and they'd do it again. I wouldn't bother to try to get them back for something like that... besides, what goes around comes around. Angela.

reserve will be late 'nother week w/o my rig; sucky UPS!

Damn, I have problems recalling things I said last year. Is it really that terrible if he did forget something he said 25+ years ago? I guess I will never be able to run for office, seeing as though my father, at least at one time, could definitely have been considered a racist. Angela.

haha! I almost replied with the same thing, lol!! In good humor, of course. ;) angela.

Wow. Truly amazing. Consider what a miniscule population you are a part of. That happens for (almost) no one these days. I hope I find "The One" and am as happy as you are one day:) Angela.

Awesome! Glad it went well:) Here's some good pain killer vibes . Angela.

Contemplating a tattoo, how do you find a good artist?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
Wow! Just checked out the site. All the way in NY, but really nice work! I love the shadowing in some of the nature work, that really appeals to me. Maybe I should save for a trip up north, I have family in RI and will have more vacation time and $$ come next year. It probably wouldn't be good to rush something that will be there forever, anyhow, it will give me more time to think about what I want. Thanks, Oren! angela. -
Ever forgotten to activate your CYPRES?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
WHOOOAA......... I hope you mean you forgot on a rental rig, and not while you were still a student.... If the instructor forgets this he should have his ratings yanked! Roy Yes, it was rental gear. Sorry for the confusion. It was before I got my A license, and it was a student rig I was renting. Angela. -
hah! That's a riot! I hear ya, tho:) I just started in this sport in July. I have never had weeks fly by so quickly as they do now. I think about skydiving all week long, then on the weekend, I fling myself from planes:) School and work bother me less because I know i'll be enjoying life to the fullest come the weekend. My friends thought it was cool at first, but now they just think i'm obsessed, out of town every weekend, spending all my $$ on jumping and jumping accessories. haha. But, it makes me happy, and that is what matters. I don't care that I am broke, i'm very happy. Knowing i'm happier than i've been in my whole life, experiencing the amazing feeling I get from jumping, reliving that experience in my head when i'm not there... that is what keeps me motivated:) Angela.

Keep landing on my arse...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to meltdown's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't feel bad. I probably only landed standing on 4 or 5 of the 9 aff jumps I made. Once off the radio, it got much better for me. A couple things to keep in mind: Generally speaking, most people start off flaring too soon because they feel that they are very close to the ground. Don't stare at the ground, stare at a 45 degree angle, it'll give you better judgement as you'll approach that point. When you start your flare, you'll feel yourself swing a little as the canopy lifts up. Do some practice flares up high and get used to what it feels like, what each part of the flare feels like. Look up at the canopy on these practice flares and see what it does. If you are jumping a zp canopy and you're punching it at flare time, it is likely you're getting a lot of lift and then plopping on the ground, right? You have to feel yourself lifting as you flare, follow through gradually as you slow down and reach the ground. It's hard to take advice from a bunch of type on the screen. Just practice lots of flares in the air, and don't worry, it'll come to you as you get more practice. Try not to land on your bum, I did a couple months back and my tailbone still hurts sometimes. Good luck! :) Angela. -
That's the goal. Far less painful to be passed out than to be where I'm at right now. Sorry, just missin' "home" and my west coast friends and family tonight... Awe:( Are you getting shitty cuz ur depressed or in physical pain? I'm sorry you miss your friends, Bytch... But, you have lots of new friends now!

The above, a quote from the article, pretty much says it all. I've personally never found myself to have much in common with 56-year-old married conservatives, but, maybe that's just me. What a load of crap Angela.
-
haha! I'll bet:p I think the addition of a lori & another beer would, at least for me, = pass out time. Angela.
-
Yeah, I think so. I just have a really hard time with it anyhow. So, you're talking just fold up half of it and stuff it in, then fold the rest in there, right? I'll try that tomorrow and see how it goes. I wish I found packing calming. I find it frusterating and at times I just want to throw the mess in a bag and head home instead of repacking for the next load. :( I hope that changes soon. thx! angela.

Ever forgotten to activate your CYPRES?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't have one in my rig now. But, with student gear, i'd forgotten a couple of times. I'm kinda forgetful . Angela. -
Obsession. I have to have something to be obsessed about, or i'll surely perish. Grapefruit juice. Just can't live w/o it. Music. Just important dammit! Argumentative conversation. I would surely die if everyone agreed with me all of the time. Drama. I'm just dramatic! I'm not sure if I could live without skydiving, I just started it, but it's become part of me very quickly. I'm not sure what i'd look forward to all week if not for skydiving. On that note, skydiving. Angela.

Man, I only dream of when i'll actually enjoy packing. I almost killed myself trying to pack at the dz last wknd, and always ended up with some kinda help putting the damn thing in the bag. For the last 2 nights at home i've been struggling to put a 150sf sabre II in a d-bag for a 135 canopy. I know it can be done, just not by me just yet (at least not in a way i'm comfortable jumping it, i'm not jumping the one I packed last night, lol!). I'll be trying again for another hour when I get home tonight. I sure pray i'll get it down soon. It was a lot easier to psycho pack the 150 into a d-bag for a 170, i'm sure struggling now:( Angela.

When are you a turkey, lowtimer etc?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Most certainly is more fun by yourself. Even more fun with someone else (in my case, someone with lots of experience, cuz I don't have that). I tried RW and it was alright, I just happen to like freeflying better is all, it is just more fun (to me). To each his/her own. To answer the original question, I don't know when you're no longer a beginner, because i'm still a beginner and don't foresee anythink happening in the immediate future to make me feel differently. Angela (didn't mean to hijack the thread) -
Ooo, black cherry jello shots sound awesome! I'll have to bring something, too:) Too bad we don't make this a pot luck liquor party Angela.
