  1. What is the point of this? Are there prizes involved? Cash? Gear vouchers? :p angela.
  2. Cute joke, Personally, I didn't find it offensive. I have Cherokee heritage, btw. But, then again, like has been said, you'll never please everyone. Angela.
  3. How can your gauge my ability to check my gear? I pack the gear. I hooked the main up. I cocked the pilot chute. I routed the bridal. I think I can feel the pin and check the damn gear. No one is trying to screw with my rig like your military people are, and apparently even you weren't able to tell what the problems were, so what difference does it make if I could or not since obviously not many can. again, a misrouted 3 ring system is a visual inspection, not someone touching my gear unasked for. Some of you just like to argue, while I suppose others really don't mind if someone messes with their stuff. Well, you know what? ? I DO! So ask me first! Angela.
  4. Sorry if i'm bitchy about it, but if you intend to check my gear. Ask first! Until then, call me a bitch if you will, but keep your paws off my stuff unless I ask you to touch it. Please stop mentioning looking at chest straps,.. I think we've covered that here by now. Read the last three pages. Also, It'd be much easier to read your post with punctuation. Angela.
  5. What is the point of a record like this? No swooping, no tricks, just fall, deploy, land... again, ... again.. Sorry, i'm just not seeing how this is cool. I will admit that it sounds damn near impossible, but even with it being possible, what is the point of doing this for sheer #s? I certainly couldn't do it, but why would anyone want to? Is it an endurance thing? Also, jumping from 2000 feet doesn't leave much room for procedures for a mal. Doesn't sound like the smartest idea... jumping 500 times from 2000 feet in 24hrs. Seems pretty tiring. Angela.
  6. Angela, I jump at a large DZ with crowded planes. There's ALWAYS room for a gear check. ALWAYS. I haven't been in an airplane yet and unable to check my own gear, or request a gear check from another jumper. - Jim I've jumped in a plane at a dz that will remain unnamed (not because it is unsafe, but because it is not a necessary addition to this argument), where it is difficult to move, let alone check gear. I would think a check to be more dangerous there than beneficial. Amen to those that agree. If there were a polling feature, i'd start one. Brian, you have every right to have as many gear checks as you'd like. And, as a student, you are required. Angela.
  7. At what point is your gear worth more than my life, or yours? Never said that, now did I? I just said that you have no right to touch my gear. And, I maintain that you don't. If you feel i'm in need of a gear check, you can request that I get one. If I do not comply, well, there's not a whole lot you can do about it, my gear, lay off ! Guess you sit on the ground on those loads where the plane small/packed that there is no way to perform gear checks, huh? Yeah, it's really too bad you can't, huh? By the way, I'm still waiting for an answer to my earlier question. If you were worried (and you admit that you were) why didn't you ask a jumper you trust to recheck your gear? - Jim none of your fucking business, that's why!! (I don't get this much shit from my own father). If I felt the need to answer your question, i'd have done so already. Angela.
  8. You'll note the arguments are generally with the same people . Jimbo, I needn't explain myself to you, and no you are not welcome to check my gear. If I had a way to keep you out of my threads i'd do that, too. Angela.
  9. You wouldn't have had to worry like this if you'd simply asked another experienced jumper to recheck your gear either. There had to be at least one person in that plane who you trust, right? - Jim Point taken, yes, there was, and if I were that worried i'd have had someone else look instead of simply feeling my pin and making sure my flaps were closed. However I still do not agree that he had the right to check it. Angela.
  10. Ya know what? Screw your personal property. If I'm in the plane with you and have reason to believe that your personal property might kill you, me, my friends, or the entire plane and whoever it lands on, then I'm damn well going to check it whether you think you want it, need it, or not. Your right to have your personal property left untouched ends at my well being. Hop on over to the incidents forum and read about the kid who had his reserve pin checked on the ground. No, if I think it's going to injure you, me, my friends, and anyone else, you're getting a gear check, like it or not. Deal with it. Skydiving is a sport of independence, but it's only through sticking together that we're able to survive. - Jim No, you're not! You have no right to do so. You can ask me to check my gear, and if I trust you, i'll let you check it. Until then, don't ! Who the hell made you God? You want me pulling your reserve flap opened because I feel like checking it? I'm sure you don't, do you? If you say you do, then you're probably lying. Angela.
  11. I'm just making a point. You can't force everyone to do gear checks. And, shit does happen in this sport. I do try to be safe. I do check my reserve pin before leaving the ground. I do check my main pin in the plane. I look around at other peoples stuff, too. I do my best to stay safe. Still, If I do not want you to check my gear, you are not welcome to check it. I don't think that's an unsafe attitude. In fact, seeing as though I don't know this person, it is a pretty safe attitude to me. I was infinitely nervous after this person had checked my gear. My thoughts, is it closed properly, will it come out in sit fly, did he move my pins? I wouldn't have had to worry like this if he'd not violated my gear. Angela.
  12. Well, there is a such thing as personal property. And, my rig is my personal property and you do not have the right to violate it. I can check my main pin myself. And, I check my reserve pin before leaving the ground. It is my choice whether I want you to check it or not. If you're scared you're going to be taken out by someones reserve, well, then maybe you should stay in the back and be last out because you know what, that is the chance you take when you get in that plane. You have no idea what is going to happen. Someone could very well get a pin check and still somehow catch their pop top on something and out comes a reserve. Shit happens, so just stay aware. You can't force people to get their gear checked. If you are jumping with someone or are doing camera for someone and you don't want to do it unless everyones gear is checked, you have the right to tell them on the ground and i'm sure everyone will comply. jmo. Angela.
  13. Hey, I know my gear really well too, and yeah, I know how things are routed. I knew it on the jump where my friend noticed my chest strap misrouted right before exit too. Don't be so cocky -- I'm with you on the keep your mitts off my reserve flap thing, but everybody screws up once in a while. An extra pair of eyes can only help. Of course, now i'm considered cocky This is a constant on this site. I'm a cocky bitch. At least we've established that. I've made it clear that I appreciate people looking at my stuff on the plane ride up, yes, i've had my cutaway pillow tucked before. I've had my reserve handle on student gear just hanging out. It is most certainly important that people look out for one another. Just because I mention that I know stuff about gear i'm cocky, tho. Ok, I know nothing. What is this purple thing on my back? I wonder which canopy is the main? Sorry, this isn't entirely directed at you, it's just an overall annoyance that people assume because you say you know anything, that you feel you know everything. That is not the case. I do not think i'm invincible. Do not think that i'm not appreciative of people looking out for me. I'm also appreciative if you ask me if I want a pin check. But, the point here is ask first before you touch things. Looking is an entirely different matter. Angela.
  14. I agree that visual checks are an awesome thing to do. People have caught things on me visually and I appreciate that. I, too, have actually caught a couple things:) And, most RW jumpers I see on the plane get up and check each others gear. You have to understand that I did not ask for my gear to be checked and that no one has the right to touch me or my belongings if I do not ask them to do so. It is a violation! If I wanted a pin check, i'd have asked my boyfriend to do it. Or, if he was not there, and I wanted one, I would have asked someone. But, unasked for gear checks are like unasked for advice... just don't. If you're requirement as a cameraman is that people get gear checks, then that's cool, make it clear. If I were your subject i'd find someone I trust to check it for me. Dave, fyi, don't assume that no one knows what is going on with their gear. I know how things are routed. I hook up different mains all the time. I've watched my boyfriend pack my reserve. I intend to do my next repack under supervision assuming I don't get too overly frusterated, lol!. So, just because someone has 50 jumps (ie, me), don't assume they are not taking the time to get to know their gear. Obviously, those who do take the time are the few rather than the many, but they are still out there:) Angela.
  15. lol!! j/k There is a discussion that was going on about this comparison in the introductions forum. Might want to check it out. I did AFF, but personally, I think AFP sounds like a better program. Angela.
  16. Why are you feeling lonely? We're all human, and we're all skydivers
  17. :) glad to know i'm not the only one who feels this way. I see that a couple of you are ok with this, and that's fine for you. But, i'm not, and apparently there are many who are not. So, for future reference, before you go fiddling with other peoples gear, ask them if they'd like you to first, please. If they say no, don't touch it. end of rant:) angela.
  18. Ahh. Ok, I didn't see that movie (I know, I know, everyone has seen that movie, lol!). cheers! Angela.
  19. I disagree with this fully. People should not think it is ok to check someones stuff without making them aware or asking. If you are not a student, then if you want a gear check you should have to request one. Or, if someone wants to check your gear for you, they should let you know or ask you first. Just because you are ok with this does not mean that the majority is ok with this. I am most certainly NOT ok with this. Angela.
  20. All the same, I don't want people touching my gear. If I want a check, i'll ask for one. I understand the reason behind someone wanting to do a check; however, unless your help is asked for, do not force it upon someone. He could easily have asked me if I wanted a gear check. Who knows, maybe I'd have said yes (unlikely being as though i'd have had my boyfriend check it since he's right next to me). But, if your help is not asked for, you should at the very least offer it verbally before taking it upon yourself to touch my stuff! Angela.
  21. Seems to me at least an explanation of why it was locked wouldn't be too much to ask. But, whatever?! Angela.
  22. Hurumph, Hurumph! so, I suppose this means your ok with someone doing this to you? Why is that? If you don't ask someone to check your gear, why do you feel they have the right? I feel violated! Like a surprise gyno visit from a stranger. All my shit opened and being inspected by someone I don't even know... who didn't even ask me if I wanted a gear check! Jerk! Angela.
  23. Did you tell the offender? If not, why not? - Jim I don't know? :( I had already been having a hard day, and he had already opened the flap to my reserve by the time I knew what he was doing. I was just like, ok, let him close it, i'm jumping in 30 seconds. Then, I didn't see him the rest of the day. I was thoroughly annoyed! The more I thought about it, the more violated I felt. I will not make the mistake of taking this s*** anymore, tho. I just felt I needed to vent. Thx for listening:) BTW, it is my gear and I am licensed. Angela.
  24. If the answer is no, then DON'T CHECK MY GEAR!! What is with people? What gives you the right to open my damn reserve flap when I didn't even ask you to check my gear? I almost punched this guy. Please don't assume because someone has low jump #s or because i'm a chick or whatever, that I want you to check my gear. If I want a gear check, i'll ask for one. Until then, HANDS OFF! Just venting! I don't know how many other people have this problem, but it's damn annoying!@ Angela.
