  1. JC at SOBE is watching me like a hawk, so he has my progression covered. haha. I didn't even realize we're at the same dz, JC is awesome... You're in good hands! Better than allstate even Damn i'm glad I waited to get a jumpsuit! lol! I bet if you inquire, you'll find them all... hopefully by the time you gather all these folks, you and ashman will have lost your nicknames, anyhow. cya in a couple weeks.. off to zhills next weekend. :) Angela.
  2. Usually if I have a nice stable position on deploy, I have no problems. When I wave off and reach, I hold for a second there to stabilize before I pull. My boyfriend told me to do this and is helped me so much. That said, sometimes I do pack like shit and have problems, too. I had the pleasure of being in a group discussion of sorts with Brian Germain this past weekend, and someone asked about uncontrollable openings, or turns on opening. Anyhow, his reply threw me for a loop. He said that during testing they'd found that having the locking stows tight, but all others stows not as tight, gave the best openings. He said that you want the bag to deploy nice and straight, and then, ideally, at the end to pause before the locking stows come out. Obviously, this is not word for word, he spoke with much more experience and worded this better. But, i'd always been taught that the locking stows should only wrap once, and all other stows twice. This went against everything I was taught. So, last jump of the day, I did it this way. And, whaddya know, nice on heading opening:D Whatta guy! And, bonus... Now I don't have to double band everything. haha. Oh, I forgot to mention, I asked about bag lock if double stowing the locking stows, and he said that it was best to use the smaller rubber bands instead. Angela.
  3. That's Florida for you. I'm sorry, Rosa. I would consult an attorney in Florida if you have the time/$$ to pursue this. There is a database of sexual predators in Florida... names, addresses, and pictures of every man convicted of a sex crime in Florida. I do not know how you can get him on there... I also don't know what good it'll do you considering how many men are on that site. I hate to sound discouraging... but take a look for yourself: http://www3.fdle.state.fl.us/sexual_predators/ In my county alone there are 1112 listed sexual predators. Do what you can, girl! Once it's too late, it's too late. I know you're feeling uncomfortable and upset right now, if you want to talk, pm me. angela.
  4. haha.. damn you read slow! j/k Hey, my boyfriends shower does the same thing. The tinniest movements make it cold/hot! It's not old, either. . . no, I don't have a solution... get it right is the best advice I can give
  5. chocolate chip cookie dough:D angela.
  6. Really, though! I see some of the packers at my dz do that, too, and hadn't really given it much thought as I don't use a packer, but that's cool of them! I don't drag my rig, I wouldn't want anyone else to, either if I needed a pack job. Angela.
  7. I know, it got so warm at the dz I was chillin in my tank top on the ground! This morning I woke up, and expected a slight chill in the air being 8am and all... but it was hot if anything, so I didn't even need a jacket! Ah, Florida... subtropical skydiving haven! Angela.
  8. A very wise choice indeed! Have fun! angela.
  9. I think he was a passerby. I will let SoBe know as well.... anyone have a name? Angela.
  10. When is it normal for peeps to go to a 1:1 wingloading? never, lol! You're at a 1:1 w/l, ... why do you ask? Some dzs have faster progressions than others. You'll get a bazillion answers on this, some will say 1 jump, others will say 100 jumps. Let the instructors do their job, if they feel he should be 1:1, then he will probably be fine. They do this every day. These are the kind of questions that turn a good thread bad. If you're really curious, you should start a new thread. jmo. angela.
  11. No shit.. this boogie was AWESOME! I had such a fun time, saw so many people from diff dzs in fla,... and met a few new people as well:) Whatever, man! I only made 2 jumps out of this thing, but both were PACKED... 16 jumpers! I could barely breathe and was happy to jump the skyvan... plus, a little noise never hurt anybody, I think men can't truly appreciate the skyvan That's funny because I was thinking, ... wow, look at all the bellyflyers that showed up! It seemed like a lot to me, usually there aren't but a couple here, if any. You're not lying! I was thinking... eh, maybe I won't go.. I already took a class with Scott Miller... but, I decided to check it out and i'm SO glad I did. I learned a lot from Brian, he's great! You should see it at sunset! You must come back and visit us again, it really is the BEST view i've seen at any of the dzs in Florida. The sunsets are amazing as you face west and look over the lake. Just breathtaking! Rory has some pix of the sunsets there, maybe he'll post them sometime:) A big hug to everyone I didn't get to say goodbye to, and everyone else I didnt' get to meet... we'll be out at the Pink Mafia boogie in z-hills next weekend, hope to see many of you there! Awesome boogie SoBe! Angela.
  12. My first 2 or three landings were on my butt. Angela.
  13. Reading on here often enough,... you will, without even opening this thread, know that it will be unproductive and become a flamefest. I'm not going to bother reading it right now,... maybe when i'm bored, but I just wanted to throw that out there. Later. Angela.
  14. That sucks!! I always leave thing around, skydivers are family. This pisses me off! I hope he gets his... I can't see how anyone in this sport would want bad karma, but whatever! Good luck in retrieving it. Angela.
  15. Man, I have a tendancy to do the same thing! I made 9 jumps this weekend, and feel like i'm really improving in my sit, and even held my stand pretty good. But, my last jump on Sunday was a track,... and I am not good at tracking. Needless to say, I again floated away... and tracked along, about 1000 feet higher than anyone else:( It SUCKED! I was really pissy about it for an hour or so,,, then I realized that who gives a shit, I made some great jumps and I am not going to worry about tracking right now. I need to go on a 2-way track and learn, not on a 4 way track. I am just too floaty and really need coaching with it. So, I suppose my answer is both. I remember the good, I remember the bad. My first jump of the weekend was hilarious, my first jump in my new suit. I am pretty sure i'll remember that one for a while:) Angela
  16. I think that any/all exercise will benefit you! Skydiving uses many muscles, depending on the type of flying. But, for AFF you will be arching, so good back and stomach muscles will be very beneficial. Cardio/stamina exercise will also be good. If you can get yourself involved in a 3x-week workout schedule, and just stay fit in general,... you will have no problems! Angela.
  17. The boogie SO rocked! I saw so many familiar faces from different dzs here in Fla... and many unfamiliar faces, too. We all had a great time. The skyvan was lotsa fun, too Hi & Bye to all I didn't get to meet, or didn't get to say goodbye to. Brian's seminar was so informative, it really put a lot of things together for me, and it was great that it wasn't geared toward any particular level of experience, it was a little of everything, from basic principals of aerodynamics, to 270 swoops. Thanks to the sponsors who made this happen... hope you all come back soon! Angela.
  18. How did your class go? I took Scott's class a while back and it was pretty informative. I just sat through a seminar with Brian Germain this weekend and almost went into information overload... this guy knows his stuff! I wonder how many years of classes with Brian it would take to actually pick his brain clean. :p Highly recommended! Angela.
  19. yeah, and this is probably my 15 or 25th. hah! Angela.
  20. Neptune or other digital alti... see how much altitude you lose in different types of turns, and analyze what the parachute is doing in each type. How the brakes work, how the risers work. . . How flat turning helps to conserve altitude, etc. Brian Germain is an excellent resource for info on how a canopy flies, maybe you can get some help from him, too:) Angela.
  21. Ok, i'm better now. . Anyhow, thinking more about this. I wonder how this differs from gender-specific awards... I mean, there are lots of "woman of the year" awards, and you don't hear anyone complaining. Isn't this, in a sense, also discriminatory? Personally, I can tell you I wouldn't be in the running for the White People's award. Fuck that! I am not sure, though, if i'd run for Woman of the Year, if I did indeed do something great that would deserve such an award... But, really, would anything? Aren't men and women supposed to be equals? So, why would we need gender specific awards? How about gender specific clubs? Or, race or religion specific clubs? How about sexual orientation specific clubs? Where do these fit in? There is so much discrimination that goes on daily that is accepted because it is the norm. But when it is a black/white thing is when it stands out most, we don't notice that it really is all around us... that or we just don't care. food for thought. Angela.
  22. LMFAO!!!!!!! Ok, must... stop... laughing... HAHAHA!! haha... ha... haha... ha!! (breathe). Angela.
  23. Man, for that kinda cash I almost wanna be a packer, too. If the weekends weren't my only time to jump due to school/work, I would reallly consider it. Of course, this would mean i'd have to practice packing faster for a while cuz it takes me damn near 20 mins to pack! :( Angela.
