  1. The Sabre II is MUCH more fun than the Spectre. If you are looking for something that is not hp but you can get a lot out of, i'd get the Sabre II. I really dislike the Spectre due to the steep glide, crappy (compared to 9 cell ) flare, and slow turns. But, to each his/her own, just thought i'd throw that out there. It sounds like you made the decision to buy the Spectre before you posted, but just incase you didn't... --A
  2. Lets see here... I did my FIRST : Beach jumps (ROCKED!!) Tandem jump (I got all dizzy, but it was fun and gorgeous up there!) Helicopter jump (the feeling is amazing) Solid 5 second + sitfly dock (YAY!!) ... Definitely a boogie to remember!! Funny, Saturday night I could barely give beer away to skydivers, sheesh... musta been that Absolute Mandarin that people wanted, not plain ol' beer. We were in bed by 10pm, don't drink and benedryl! Thanks to all who made it possible, had a great time and great jumps! -A
  3. Those large eggs (salmon I think) are really salty, imo. Super squishy, too. Not one i'd order again. I thinkanother I tried that I wasn't a big fan of was urchin, it was a squishy yellow stuff wrapped in nori. I didn't like the texture at all. I love sushi, though! I didn't try it except for cali rolls until a year or so ago with my boyfriend, I was amazed at how good it was, and I always look forward to going out for sushi now. If there is something on there I haven't tried, I always make a point to order it:D I can't get anyone in my family to try it, and a lot of people who I talk to about sushi just look all grossed out at the thought. It is really good food that would be a shame to never experience. Angela.
  4. you could remove "on your birthday" and still be correct. I hate finals! I am dreading my diff eq final, but not as much as the humanities finals (music and art... ugh, is it wrong to just not care about art history?) Good luck! -A
  5. NICE!!! I think that you should definitely consider the upsize if what you're afraid of is the speed. It might really help you out:) Take care and have some good jumps **AND LANDINGS**! -A
  6. I believe what she was trying to get across is that our current methods of invade and bomb just aren't cutting it. Not helping, not necessary, not humane. We can't stop terrorism by terrorizing, it just doesn't work. -A
  7. Well, talk yourself through it. What are you afraid of? That you'll fall out? You've already been there, so it is nothing new, you just relax, get stable, and enjoy:D Are you afraid you'll fall out and be unstable? Convince yourself that arching makes you stable like the instructors say. Everyone has fences to climb over, you just have to do it! You overcome fear by facing it, do what you're afraid of. Then you'll realize how silly the fears were. So what if you fall out, hell, you've got at least 10 thousand feet to get relaxed and pull, right? Good luck, go out there and just do it! -A
  8. She said you could register at the boogie, don't forget to bring floatation gear. I don't know the name of the airport off hand, i'm sure you'll find it in the thread. It is my understanding that you can't miss it on Marathon Key right on us1. I know there will be heli jumps, the skyvan and I believe an otter as well (super i'm guessing). Damn, that's a long drive, but i'm sure it'll be worth it! :D I'm TOO excited! I have to stop thinking about it or it'll never get here! -A
  9. my res must really suck, I don't see a difference. -A
  10. I love my Samurai! Of course, i'm loading under 1.5, so I can't say how it performs at your loading, but at my lower loading I have no problem with riser pressure AT ALL. Dives really well, and I can easily extend the dive by countering with the other riser, very controllable. I get amazing lift on landing, too, never have a problem shutting it down. Recovery arc is loooong, nothing like a Stiletto. I don't have any problem with twitchiness or oversteer, either. Great canopy! Angela. side note : i've only flown Sabre II, Stiletto & Jedei before this, so I can't compare the xfire2.
  11. whoa there, jello shots... gotta remember to stay away from those I am hoping the wind will die down by the time we get down there, ugh, wind. The forecast looks good. -A
  12. I think it depends on your past experiences. I think that the reason I had no fear of this activity as a whole was that i'd already experienced something that (to me) was scarier. "Skycoaster" was a ride at Grand Prix down here and they basically put you in a harness, bring you up 300 or so feet, and then you stare at the ground in the harness and pull your own ripcord which releases you (but you swing instead of bungee). I assume the same fear could be experienced with base jumping if you look down, because you're much closer to the ground (and worse, there's no cord). But, at 3000 feet or above, i've had no problems likely due to experiencing that ride 3 times over a couple years. I was pretty scared of hitting the tail of the plane for a while, though... and, diving exits freaked me out a bit to begin with on student status (not sure why). I also used to have a fear i'd fall out before the group if I had to take a spot on the outside of the plane, but i've gotten through all of these, you have to face your fears in order to get over them.
  13. Everyone should be cautious to a degree (or we'd all be in big trouble!). I just don't think that gender plays a huge part, maybe the way someone grows up, what activities they have done in the past, past experiences, etc. I, for one, have no problem with the speed, and since almost day one i've wanted something faster... now i'm finally content on a decently fast canopy. I understand that some women will be more cautious than the norm, but so will some men (there are many at my dz). Good point. If she doesn't like the speed, and isn't getting a good flare, I think upsizing a bit and getting a zp canopy would probably help both. jmo of course. -A
  14. Think i'll be hitting #300 as well by Sunday if the weather is nice We'll be rolling in Thursday night, ready to jump on Friday! YAY!! Angela.
  15. ?? huh? Which would be easier to get a hold of? Clue: You would grip cutaway and BOC the same way...Another Clue: Why don't we have Cutaway hackies? ooooh, gotcha. Yeah, i'd rather the pillow/pad:) -A
  16. Which is why I had my posts removed.... That's a damn shame. -A
  17. YAY YAY YAY !! Glad to hear there'll be beach jumps EACH afternoon!! Is it Friday yet? Angela
  18. .76 student (to 11 jumps) .85 (3 jumps) .96 (87 jumps) 14 jumps to 101 1.06 (60 jumps) 101 to 161 1.2 (30 jumps) 161 to 191 1.38 (90+ jumps and counting) 191 to 280~++(*first new canopy purchase, I plan to stay here for a long time).
  19. When I was 12, I was seeking advice from only females about how to use a tampon! It's not always ignorant and sheltered. Guys have a different center of balance, so their bodies fly differently than women's. Val, Craichead also mentioned : "I tend to seek advice from people who are experienced and respected in the field in which I'd like advice." I think that says it all right there. Of course men wouldn't have much info on how to use a tampon. Everyone has things that are out of their realm of knowledge, but you are really cutting out a lot of good info if you're seeking advice only from one gender rather than seeking advice based on who has experience with what you're asking for, imo. -A ** for the record, this is not about my topic in the women's forum. That was not a thread asking for advice, it was asking why a myth continues to exist, and thinking about it further, I think that it was a good move to post it in the women's forum so that women get the chance to discuss that without a bunch of one liners. Thanks.
  20. Interesting...I tend to seek advice from people who are experienced and respected in the field in which I'd like advice. Seeking advice based on gender is ignorant and sheltered. _Pm I couldn't agree more! But, I wasn't really expecting any better from windcatcher, either, to be honest, so I wasn't going to respond until I saw that someone else caught that that was absolutely RIDICULOUS! -A
  21. Not all women feel that way, so please do not think that we do. The thread I started in the Women's forum was started there because it would remain in view above the "I like PB&J" & "My cat is funny" threads that take up the first 5 pages of bonfire. It was a serious topic and the best place I could think for it to go was the Women's forum. I, personally, did not have a problem with men contributing USEFUL info to the thread. It is when it becomes a flamefest or tells women that it's their own fault that it becomes a problem for me. But, hell, I agree with you that if there is a Women's forum, there should also be a Men's forum. It would just be difficult to moderate and that is probably why there isn't one -A
