It must suck to be such a follower. I prefer to think for myself, and stand behind only those whose causes I believe in. This does not include our current President. I am proud to say that I have enough intelligence to make those types of decisions based on information and circumstances, rather than simply following the leader. -A

Twin Otter @ Clewiston, FL on 11th & 12th
SkydiveNFlorida replied to skydivingwill's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Guess so, then Damnit, remind me to pick up some earplugs... Hey, do you have Chris Grey's e-mail addy? I lost it Something about UM, damnit, I have THE WORST memory! I will see if Rory will catch up with Kazu tonight. BTW, I think he'll answer to almost anything, I call him fart-brain ( j/k, I love the Big Jap!) -A -
Is your Wingloading within the WNE Chart?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to FrancoR's topic in Safety and Training
I doubt that. There have been quite a few deaths at or below the recommended wingloadings on that chart. And, there have been many deaths of people that have over 1000 jumps as well. I am over the recommended on that chart. It is certainly not the end-all-be-all, it is a guideline. Just like it'd be stupid for someone to load a canopy at 1.0 for 500 jumps then all of a sudden switch to 1.5, there are certainly ways to exceed this chart safely, with training and guidance from those who have experience. jmo, -A -

UPDATE: This has been postponed until next weekend (18th & 19th). The plane needs maintenance. booooo!! -
LMFAO!! I don't think you're an asshole, AD.... I wonder myself how all those bra/panty threads got so big. I didn't realize that women felt the need to compare stock of undergarments with one another. I'm just as lost as you are. -A

I think Rory is waiting to hear back from Kazu with his plans. Give him a call later this week. :) Awe, man... is there another front? Why do these have to come on weekends, huh? :( -A

Awe, man:( I have finals on Friday and then on Saturday (and Sunday if I can't finish on Saturday, but I will be trying my damnedest to finish on Sat to leave Sunday free.) But, Kazu is doing his 500th this wknd, so we're going to try to meet up with him as well. If he does it on Saturday, then I won't make it anyhow, but if it is Sunday we might head to Clewiston to join in the fun. I'm not really a kickass freeflyer, anyhow, but it does sound like a blast! Who knows, maybe i'll make it Sunday. Rory might be out on Saturday anyhow. thx for the info! And, have a blast if I don't make it! -A

I hear its an EXTREMELY nice pond, probally the nicest in FL. I know that a lot of people are'nt staying dry since they are keeping a friend of mine busy repacking them You know, i'm actually beginning to consider keeping my old Javelin for pond swooping... then I can just change out my main and not worry about getting my nice white Voodoo all wet, or, worse, my cypres I might do that. -A

He should! I bought 40$ in beer, so maybe I covered his, too?:p I am hoping to get a good amount of practice in and start doing some nice 270s before next time. I found it quite difficult setting up for 180s in the wind. Hopefully I can straighten out some other issues I had as well. I think Rory may enter Int next time, but you are welcome to come out and kick my ass, k? :D lol!!! Well, i'm glad you got something other than the t-shirt, then;) hehe. It was great to meet you, too! You're a lot of fun and I can't wait to see everyone again next month! -A

Improved Openings!! But, why?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
To address a couple of questions : The pilot chute is new and came with the rig, I will compare it with my old one this week to see what the differences in size and mesh density are. I hadn't given that any thought. As far as the loading factor, I load this at a little under 1.5, but after seeing how nice it opened this weekend, I don't think that I need to load it more to get a nicer opening, it seems to have been corrected with the better fitting container, center stow d-bag, pullout system or pilot chute size or a combination of things. Alan, yes, I hate hearing people bitch that a canopy sux and not even consider that it might be other factors. My boyfriend has a 105 Sam and his opens fine, so I'd just assumed it was me (packing or position, etc.) Glad it was the container, d-bag, deployment method or whatnot, tho:) Thanks to all for their thoughts, -A -

It was well underway when I was there in July.

I e-mailed her, we'll see what happens:) I do recall them having good customer service, so maybe they will replace it or send a spare and have me send it in for repairs/whatnot. We shall see. -A

I REFUSE to be without this unit, sending it in is NOT an option unless it will not work as an alti. I will e-mail them to let them know, but I will not send this thing in and be alti-less. -A

Nope, haven't replaced the battery. Also, no indication that it needs replacement. Additionally, replacing a battery should not be a risk to the data, and if that is the case, they need to look into that! Mine, no explanation. On Saturday morning I checked my logs and had 298 jumps. On Sunday morning I checked my log and had no logs available. The unit works perfectly otherwise, but no explanation for the erasure of data. -A

Will you be out next month? They are doing a swoop comp there in January. I heard something about them having a swoop pond now, can anyone confirm this? I love that DZ, it sure sux it got hit so hard. Next month will be my first time back in a long while. Good luck to them! -A

Sure can, but it doesn't change the taste of yummy dough with sugar and eggs, mmmmm. I have been eating cookie dough, brownie batter and cake mix since I was old enough to speak, and i've never been poisoned (knock on a cakepan.) :D -A

As of when is this? There was still stinky water on Sunday. Are they changing to city water this week? That ROCKS! -A -
Improved Openings!! But, why?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks for your input, Dave! I am amazed at the difference, i'm so glad it was either me, the container, or the d-bag... and not the canopy. The canopy opens beautfully now! On larger canopies I never had much or a problem, but I suppose the smaller they are, the more sensitive they are, and the small changes that have come from the new container have certainly improved the openings 100% on the Sam. thx. -A -
I don't know, but thought i'd post that I had version 2.025 (I think) and sometime between Saturday and Sunday ALL of my logs mysteriously erased themselves. I don't care too much because I use it as an altimeter because I have a protrack and like it better for logging, but, I hope that whatever caused that is not in the newest version. For an alti, get a neptune! It rocks! But, for logging, I much prefer the Protrack. Not only because it seems to be more accurate, but mostly because of ease of use. Yes, the Neptune menu is more intuitive, but it takes a lot longer to get all of the info you need for each jump (select jump 300, read info, page down, page back up, go back to jump screen, go back a jump, select jump 299, repeat). Protrack (mode, mode-hold, mode, you are now viewing on one screen your last jump, press set and you can see the jump before it, repeat for each.) I just think it is a lot easier for logging. jmo, I am not knocking alti-2, because I do LOVE the Neptune AS AN ALTIMETER! -A

Improved Openings!! But, why?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have a Samurai 105 that i've put about 100 jumps on. I have always had some issues with the openings (off heading, fast, sometimes end cell closure/turning.) I had chalked it up to shitty packing or body position until I got my new container. . . . I had been putting this in a Javelin TJN which is made for a 135 canopy. It had the d-bag made for that size canopy with side stows. The container has a BOC deployment system. It was a used container, not made for me (and a little big for me I think.) I just purchased a custom Voodoo V0 which is made for a 105, the bag is sized nicely for this canopy and I got the bag with center stows. I also got the pullout system instead of boc. I did 13 jumps this weekend and I had on-heading openings EVERY SINGLE TIME! Now understand that this never happened in the other container.. an on heading opening used to be a rarity. So, i'm wondering what is it that is causing this change. Is it a) The container (and therefore d-bag) being appropriately sized for the canopy? Maybe there was some partial deflation going on in the larger bag? b) The center stows on the d-bag not allowing it to jar itself around as much when opening? c) The pullout system, which takes a bit longer. Maybe with the boc I was tossing and it was opening so fast that I was getting back to normal position which deploying which was causing turns? With the pullout I am already back to normal position when the pilot chute is released (because you have to fully extend your arm before releasing the pud.) Any thoughts? I don't know what it is, and I can't really isolate each changed variable, but something has caused a DRASTIC improvement in my openings. Maybe someone here has some insight. Thanks! Angela. -
Prelim pix of my new Voodoo ...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is the most comfortable rig EVER! The only issue I have is that it does come off of my back a bit in a sitfly, so i'm not sure if the laterals need to be shortened. I will be sending it in for a mod that Sandy and I spoke about in a month or two, so i'll mention it to them at that time. Aside from that, I love the rig, it is the most comfortable thing ever, it looks great, and I love the pullout system, too (I am SO glad I went pullout!). Thanks to everyone for the compliments, and Mel, i'll shoot you a pm as well. Thanks to all who posted their pix, too. When I was considering a Voodoo, finding pictures was like picking a needle from a haystack. This will be a good thread for those considering the kickass Voodoo system! Angela.
