Thanks, Mark. I really want to thank LoudDan for being so convincing and getting me to compete (I was really on the fence, and after going through the competition, I had much reason to be.) I had a great time and I see so much room for improvement. I was getting very comfortable with doing the same turn over and over, not worrying about entry points, just chillin'. It is nice to have gained a bit of focus because you don't see how bad you are until you compete, lol! Thanks to Chris Hayes for setting up the 9-cell class! I can't wait to compete again (hopefully after improving some in the coming weeks.) And, thanks to Alti-2 for donating the prizes. My jacket is nice n warm, although I think the t-shirt Dan got was a bit more my size (but it was funny seeing him in it!) -A

Light weight, wanting opinions

Are you talking about the xfire or xfire2? Because i've heard from reputable sources that the xfire had some problems. It seems that the xfire2 is supposed to be really nice, but i've flown neither so this is all hearsay. -A -
Prelim pix of my new Voodoo ...

Thanks, Mar. I've got tips for some on this site on scotchgarding thanks to this post. Hook wasn't on at the time you posted that, but no doubt he'd have a good formula for doing it. It is being assembled and packed as we speak and we'll definitely get it scotchgarded (Sandy also suggested it). thx -A -
Cool! We already bought the original and need it for use tonight, but when it is due for repack it'll probably be due for a wash and maybe i'll pick up the new formula at that time. Wish me luck keeping it white! Thx!! -A

There's a new type of scotchgard with red caps, one is the old one, one is "new and improved" and has different ingredients. Anyone used the new one? -A

Prelim pix of my new Voodoo ...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, I was going to pick up scotchgard tonight, but I want to jump it tomorrow. Can I scotchgard it after it is packed? How long will it take to dry? Alternatively, if I do well with it this weekend, can I just scotchgard it after the weekend is over (assuming I don't slide in with it;))? Thanks guys. Btw, that was actually supposed to be PURPLE/WHITE, but it appears that it is a very deep blue batch of purple. But, even though it won't match my jumpsuit very well, it still looks great! My suit will match the purple webbing, ... yeah, I meant to do that;) -A -
Prelim pix of my new Voodoo ...
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, got my new Voodoo, here are pix of it (unpacked). We will pack it up later on and i'll be jumping it this weekend (YAY!!). So, here are some preliminary pix until I get some more. Specs : Voodoo V0 2.0 with pullout system, competition backpad (cut ins), SS hardware, genera bag (stows in center of bag). I'm so excited to fly it, YAY! There aren't a lot of voodoo pix on this site, so if you have one please post it! Oh, I also want to thank the awesome folks at Rigging Innovations and Paraconcepts that made this happen for me! Sandy and Brenda are just awesome! And, Sarah and Betsy at Paraconcepts gave me an excellent deal and great service. Everyone at both places put up with my never-ending questions and inquiries with a smile, and there is much to be said about that. THANKS EVERYONE! Angela. -

I'm with BikerBabe, get a Sam demo, I bet you'll be hooked. I weigh about what you weigh, the Sam 105 is a very nice wing, flies great, dives great, I have no complaints about its flight characteristics at all. Also, there is a lot to be had out of this wing at that w/l, after 100 jumps on it I feel like i'm barely scratching the surface with it and after spending all the $$ on a brand new canopy that is a really good thing! I haven't flown the Katana but I hear it is a really nice wing as well as the xfire2. Kickass Samurai -A -
It looks so clear and beautiful there! What a view, those are great pix!! The swoop pic was very cool, I wonder how those hard carves are pulled off, very cool! -A

Wasn't this the report of the intoxicated guy who hooked too low on a night jump? Even if one of the factors was a fast canopy, I think a much more pertinent factor would be intoxication. As far as night jumps, I haven't gotten up the guts to do them yet. I figure I still have quite a few jumps before I can apply for a D license, so why rush it? I do plan to get them done before downsizing anymore, tho. ... Also want to add that I would not feel terribly comfortable borrowing a larger canopy than i'm used to unless I have a good day of jumping it first. I, unlike many on here, don't get the chance to fly different canopies everyday and I have more confidence on a canopy i'm current on in a situation i'm not used to (night jumps). -A

few questions on a canopy material for a beg.
SkydiveNFlorida replied to Nimitz88's topic in Gear and Rigging
I bought my first container so that I could squeeze the size main I was jumping at the time in it, but it was made for the next size down. I know that some people dissapprove, but I didn't know when i'd have the $$ to buy new gear, and how much i'd downsize by what point. Ends up that a little over a year later I have just purchased my first new rig (made for the size canopy I now jump, not the next size down). I think if the reserve is appropriately sized and you can squeeze your main into it, why not go for the next size down if it is your first container? I downsized considerably in my first year and most people probably do that within the first year or two I am guessing. Just my opinion. If you buy used it probably makes less difference since you generally lose much less $$ selling used gear off. jmo. -A -
LOL!! I know I would be! -A
-
Also might want to consider which pin protection you feel is best (some go up, others tuck under), pop top reserve (some don't like them). Of course, this in addition to looks, comfort, etc. My main concerns for my rig were I didn't like the look of pop tops, I wanted something comfy, and it had to look good. I didn't put safety first because I think that all of the newest stuff is pretty damn safe. Some really want the skyhook, so if you want one, get yourself a Vector. Also, since your a big guy, I will mention that if you get a Wings you might consider the Ext version as it is longer/narrower than the original version. A friend from my dz is a little taller than you and his Ext fits very well. I bought a Voodoo, it will be here tomorrow. :) -A

WIND??? When will you sit?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to MrJones's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If it is gusty, I will sit out a lot sooner. If the winds are steady, probably up to around 25mph. You need to take into account how much penetration you will get with your canopy, and if you have the confidence to be accurate in such high winds. Also, like I said, if it is gusty or shifty, I watch loads and make a decision depending on how bad the situation is. -A -
Awe, that sux!! Get well, damnit!! -A

I hear ya, babe, you go with what your comfortable with for sure. I am still considering entering. If I can get some practice noodle swoops in and feel comfy i'll probably go for it. I am hoping for no wind or a light crosswind, I don't want to lose speed;) We'll see, i'll probably be out Friday by 3pm-ish, hopefully I can get a few in before sunset and wake early enough to get some more before comp. -A

If your arm is feeling up to it, enter the 9-cell with the C2. If not, though, you could always enter intermediate with the velo in January at Lake Wales:D Man, I bet there's enough interest in Sebastian alone to do a monthly contest with small entry fees and prizes:D ... something to think about Like I said, i'm undecided on this weekend, but I hope that there's enough interest to get the 9cell class in anyhow. I haven't gotten to swoop the noodles at all because it was so damned crowded up there on Sunday (and too windy to justify h&p's for me). I wish I could make it out Friday... *sigh, school*. I think you should enter, Dee, it'll be a good chance to get some feedback! (Trying to listen to myself here). See you both soon! -A
-
Ok, DEAL!!! You rock, Wendy!! -A

Had a blast on Sunday! We'd have stayed later but had dinner obligations. I am hoping to make it out by Friday evening so that i'm there bright and early Saturday. Rory will likely be there Friday. Like Denise, i'm considering entering the comp on Saturday. Depends on the winds and the fees for me, and if I can get a couple of jumps in advance. I haven't had a chance to swoop the noodles at all, but I saw Dee hitting them this weekend (rock on babe!). See you guys next weekend, hopefully with my new (but incomplete) rig. -A

Kickass!! -Sam Adams (winter lager is really good, but any is good) -New Castle Brown Ale See you guys this weekend!! -A

I can see both sides. But, as someone who doesn't feel nearly ready to compete with the pro swoopers, I think it would be kinda nice to be initiated in a beginner class. If I were to compete, it would not be in expectations of winning, but more as an effort to get some feedback and maybe some tips. I absolutely understand about the safety aspect and I think that having some sort of qualifier may be a good idea to keep it a safe competition if that is whats usually done, although I have no idea what a qualifying round would involve.?? Will the 9-cell class be no fees / no prizes, or fees / prizes? Is this event Saturday only or Sat & Sun? What time does it start? Will there be time for some warm-up jumping before the actual competition? Has the order been determined? Obviously the course will have to be modified for the 30ft wide gates the beginner class will have with compare to the others, so will they be first or last? Just my thoughts, see you guys this weekend either way. Angela.
