statistics-need help, my brain has crashed!
Lostinspace replied to lemonjelly's topic in The Bonfire
Permutations of where the 1 can sit: n_t=total slots=14 n_1=number of 1’s=6 # of permutaions= (n_t)!/[(n_1)!*(n_t-n_1)!] Number of why the the 2’s and 3;s can sit in their slots: 2^8 So you number of permutations is: (2^8)* (n_t)!/[(n_1)!*(n_t-n_1)!] (2^8)* (14)!/[(6)!*(8)!]=768,768 768,768 I may not be right. That would be my final answer. That will be a dollar please. Now if this were a game, and I had a 50 percent chance of being correct; but I had to pay you every time I tried to school you, but when I finally did school you, you would pay me 2^n, where n is the number of tries I have had and I quit the game when I succeed, how much should you charge me for this game to be fair? -
I think futurama is 1kk times funnier than family guy. only the cool kids agree

Dave, Did one of the swoopers near the end cut away, just before hitting the pond?

... I heard that job was already taken ... by you. Yea but I need some help. I am getting carpal tunnel syndrome and it’s not from typing. Um ... you work for an ergonomics company... bet you have a jelly wrist rest laying around. Maybe you have found an unfufilled need in the market place. Design something new, and push your company to the head of the market. I could be your ergo-robics Instructor.

I'd be nice if that list came with pictures and info on if they were sinlge or not .... Edited to add: Not that I was going to, but why can't you send "horror comics"? Edited a second time to add: When over in Iraq, the soldiers never get to have bacon or sausage for breakfast, do they?

Force to deploy reserve, Small girl
Lostinspace replied to Lostinspace's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think of it like that. If you’re going to jump out of a plane, I think it’s a fact of life, like losing you virginity. (WARNING, This is pretty dull ) it was a few days ago, so it is a little hazey now. I jumped with one other person, I am very new … so I was never close during the whole dive. Pull was at 3.5k. I tried once, hard pull. Let go and tried again, hard pull. On my 3rd (and last) attempt to get a main over head, I gave it my all; I grabbed the hackey, turned my arm a little and tried to get some leverage. As I did this, I started going over. Before I started, I knew it was my last attempt. Still going over, I looked at the horizon then silver. fuck. I cleared it with my left hand before my right one could reach, while upside down. I don’t remember anytime between that and when my reserve was over head. I was under canopy at 2k. My first jump with my own parachute, my first solo, the time in AFF when caught my pilot chute on a seat beat and pulled it out just before I was to exit, … those were scary (for me), this wasn’t. I had a good canopy and I watched the pilot chute drift to the ground...not to far from club house. :) Once I was under my reserve ... I couldn't think. I was relatively low, I didn't fly a pattern, I just went straight in. My pilot chute was about 30% out of the BOC pouch (I think, I may be so wrong). As I went into the clubhouse, I asked some people not to touch it. I wanted to pull the rig off and look to see what happened. Then the rigger told me not to touch it. The (STA) told me to keep the rig on. He made me lay on the floor, told me to deploy. The pilot chute came out no problem. I’m in new England, it was pretty cold out. The STA thinks it was me, that my fingers were numb. Talked with the STA, he said every/most experienced jumper he knows that had a hard pull, did the exact same thing. Pulled the reserve without releasing the main. He thought I did every thing right and was glad I didn’t fight it to the ground. It was a good day. I ordered a container, jumpsuit and helmet, jumped at a new place and had my first reserve ride. Everyone at the club was so very nice. I owe the rigger a bottle of what ever he wants, wish I knew what that was. Now I just need to work on the whole freefall thing, so when I jump with others I’m not the only one that having a great time. I’m still waiting to feel like a skydiver. Belinda (geez, that was alot of typing for a blur on 8 seconds) -
No, keep it. I think that guy's hot.

See, that's what I really should have titled this thread, then it would be more accurate to the joke and point I was making. What is FedEx.

Force to deploy reserve, Small girl
Lostinspace replied to Lostinspace's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It really is not that interesting. If you guys really want to hear, I will share. Wee, you’re probably better off hearing about malfunctions from your instructors. I only know enough to be reasonably safe and not hurt myself under a relatively large canopy. Thank you all for being so nice. -
Force to deploy reserve, Small girl
Lostinspace replied to Lostinspace's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
All fear has been removed. I got to use the metal handle the other day. One hand, and I don't remember feeling any resistance. I also don't remember seeing my reserve open. I pulled and the reserve was over my head. -

You can borrow my dream to go to the Galapagos Islands. You can swim with the penguins, watch the swimming iguanas, hike the volcanoes, and maybe eat the baby turtles if it is the right season and you’re into that. Here is one place, it is the link to the Econ class boats : http://www.galapagosislands.com/html/lowboats.html they also have SUPER econo, mid and high. The prices are pretty good, even on the high range. You sleep on a boat, with a naturialist, 1 english speaking translator, chef, ship captain, some sea men. I think it is BYOB. It so frickin’ cool….. Small boats… so there is very little hope in getting laid, if your looking for some of that. Also, I don't think there is any jumping. You can get a modern boat or one with old school sails. I tried so hard to get 16 people or even 12 … to charter out a boat. I would have taken my mom if needed. I just left my lame boyfriend who didn’t want to go. NO one was go. After the Galapagos, I want to go to Madagascar. edit to add: Oh: the beluga comes with a machinist and barman, maybe you can get laid. http://www.galapagosislands.com/html/beluga.html

Went to Mexico for 2 weeks without any luggage Played the violin in Prince Albert’s hall Gave several DNA samples for a study on the ability to differentiate terrible decompose siblings Drank beer out of a warm prosthetic leg. Rent numerous cars, tested components in them, and replace them out with “Suspect” components to see if my company need to voluntarily disclose any this to several large automotive manufactures, trying to prevent being charged for recalls. You get some funny looks when you are driving down the highway, and there are wires coming out from under the hood and into the car window. (and returned the car with new components, so there would be 1 less failure to wirry about) Got to watch a bird shoot test on a jet engine. Then had to have my boss watch the bathroom door as there were no women's restroom in the facility. Been in the clean rooms where satellites are built and shipped and the satellite launch control room. Got to sample a “flavoring” that was made just like pop rocks, but it was intended for dinner foods. “Corn with POPPING Mexican flavor.” Ate something else at the same place and … excreted “Cookie Monster” blue for 2 days (I am not kidding.). (Strang and intersting fact .. Bat man ceral was origrally going to be black, but the kids would not eat it after the milk turned grey from the ceral) Lived in Alaska for 8 years, got to stay home one day because there was a moose in the back yard and my parents let me watch it until the authorities came Was taught "How Jet Engine Work" by Pratt and Whiteny. Work with many engineers who worked on the engines for the SR-71, and got to talk with them about the machine. Got to watch (PWA F-119-100) engine's 4-8 be manufactured (and 1 test) for the F-22/JSF. Had a job where i was "hazed", by being forced to only use a slide rule ... I twice went 14 days with out eating. I went 2.5 year with out eating meat, and over a year with out eatin dairy either. Assembled most of one HPT for a PWA F-100-229 that went into a F-16. Drank instant coffee at a roadside stand "somewhere" in mexico, south of AguasCalientes ... to get the smell of the rotting pig we saw about 40km back to get the taste out of my mouth. Got to watch a test for one of the first composite Helicoptor rotor hubs.
