  1. I meant to write, congrats and stuff too. Its late (2am almost) I'm tierd. Glad to see that you got back up there and went through the second aff. There is so much to learn about gear, but even a basic understanding of most of it can go a long ways in making for more trust that it will actually work. Hey if it means anything, the rig your jumping looks like it was in nicer shape than some of the ones that I jumped on student status. (Theres nothing wrong with them, just older) So are there pictures of you floating around when your on the ground? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. One other rating I would say is 'Skill Level' i.e. is this an expert canopy like a Xaos or a beginner canopy like a Navigator. Hmm, the other thing is something about recovery arc, but you could put that in with preformance I guess. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. In my not-so-expert opinion I think its the responsibility of more than just the jumper who is jumping the canopy. There has to be some degree of responsiblity put into the field of the others around the jumper. Someone underskilled jumping a canopy way to small or responsive for them is not only a danger to themselves, but also to all the people in the air around them, and the sport itself. If the experienced people let the newbies go out and kill themselves every weekend then there won't be many new jumpers around and the FAA/USPA/Media/General Population is going to take notice. The 30 a year average doesn't raise too many eyebrows but if it was 50? 100? More? I think people would start to think something is wrong. Bartenders have a responsibility in many areas to make a choice for a person (that they don't need more drinks) when that person is unable to make that choice for themselves. However much anyone says that you can explain to a new jumper (like me) what a Xaos/vengence/stilleto is like, or a whatever, all that you can do is that. I read that the HP canopys are more responsive etc. but I sure don't know what that equates to in reality. I jump a saber2, all I can tell you from what I read about stuff is its more responsive than that. Does that make me think there is a need for blacklisting. No I don't think so, there are to many intangibles in a system like that. I honestly can't think of a good way to deal with people who are making stupid sales. (One thing to consider is that if you knowingly and purpusfully were to put a person with limited experience up on like a VX-60 or some other pocket rocket canopy, waiver or not, it starts to brush into the realm of criminal negligence if the person kills themself, at least in my opinon, by my understanding.) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 8. I have always been a strong supporter of Nikons. My friend has a Canon D60 though, and they do make good cameras, but... If you have to have 4fps, the D1H Nikon can do 5 fps with max burst of 40 pictures. The down side is that they are really expensive. I follow digital photorgaphy a bit, and honestly anything that is decent at this point, and getting frame rates like that is going to be expensive. The prices are getting better and better, but 4fps is a lot for a digital camera. There are some cameras that are on the lower priced consumer end that can do mpeg mode but the quality gets pretty bad. Anything that you want reliable picture quality from is going to be more towards the profesional end. The other thing is, shopping around once you find what you want. Quite often enough camera shops will be the most expensive place to buy a camera. I have a used N80, that is awesome, and my friends D60 is used as well. We both paid well under retail. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. Our Otter? Its broke, engine is blown out. No one has fixed it, were just using a different plane. Too expensive to repair? Was it a Super Otter or a regular Otter? Is it for sale? Yves. I have no idea. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  10. I don't think that I would ever get used to just paying the extra five bucks. The more I pack the better I get and the faster I can do it. If I can get it down to like 10 min to pack, on avg... thats like 35$/hr I am earning on my own. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. Hmm, let me accomodate with some pictures! Ka1 is the king air we have now. So1 is the otter that we used to fly. and Yankee is our cessna, be it a really small picture from really far away, but thats it! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. I would think that by the time the bullets reached a speed at which they would start to fall back down, the momentum of the rifling would have stoped. The other thing is that there is probally some disfiguration due to firing, which the test bullets didn't have, which would make them more ball shaped and they wouldn't tumble as much. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 15. When I packed my first few rigs, I watched as one of our packers could pack 3-4 tandem rigs in the time it took me to fully pack one regular rig. I was slow, still am, but I can pack in the time one load goes up and comes down now. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Statistics

Most people who make a skydive make only one. Another danger comparison I like to use on my non-skydiving pilot friends is that the chances of dying from making one skydive is statistically similar to that of flying one hour in a small airplane. It's pretty close for a C-172. I don't know if I would call tandem students skydivers. I know I sure as shit didn't think I was a skydiver after one tandem. I would say the same thing about aff. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 18. Haha, this thread getting bumped up was great... What an interesting read. That said, I have forgot my alti, was like jump #30, I borrowed one from a coach on the plane, was more comfortable. I might just make a jump without one some day. There is a guy at my dz who can judge alt almost as good as an alti with just eyes. I don't think I have ever seen him jump one. It was even sugested that I make a hop n pop w/ no goggles cause there really is no need an then I will know what its like.
