  3. As early as Feb 03 once the US had decided that SH would not completely comply with UN regulations and inspections Mr. Bush said publically we will not stop short of "Regime Change in Iraq" ..... If you recall it was a common slogan for all the protestors.... The signs said stop regime change in Iraq and start it in the USA. No, the policy was to remove the ba'athis regime and disarm the country. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  4. Those comments are off the point Kev. No One said you can't like the man because he was in the KKK. What was said was by Dodd was that during the Civil War Byrd would have made the best dissions for the country. Implying (much like Lott was accused of) that slavery was OK and so was the repression of Blacks. All these republicans said about Byrd was they liked working with him.... Many democrats said the same about Thurman. I guess I am just wondering what your point IS? Dodd did say what he said, and It was more racially charged than what Lott said of Thurman. That is just the truth... Rationalize it all you want, but it doesn't change the facts of the story. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  5. My feeling is that what he said is right in 1991, however, a lot has changed since then. First of all we went to Iraq in 91 because SH had invaded Kuait. Our objective at the time was to liberate Kuait from Iraq. This speak was given by Chaney after the liberation had occured. Mission complete. Now so people at the time wanted to go to Bahdad, and the argument was that we had succeded in our mission and instead we would put sactions on Iraq and keep an eye on SH. So we did, and for 12 years he broke every rule we put in place to stop he from being a tyrant and a suppoprter of the palistinians and terrorist. The purpose in Iraq this time around was "Regime Change" quite different from the Kuaiti liberation. One must also look at the significance of what we are really doing in Iraq and what our ultimate goals are there. For a long time now the middleeast has been a producer of hate and violence. Countries like Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afganastan, and even Saudi Arabia haven't been real friendly to the US mainly for Ideological reason. Iraq is a great place to move in kick the bad boys out and set up a permanent military facility. Now the Iranians Jordanians, and Saudis have us right in their back yard. We will keep bases there just like we still have them in Germany from WWII. Stratigically in the long run this is an excellent move, but in the short term it is very dangerous and violent. Do you remember at the begining of this war how difficult it was to get permission to use Turkish bases and Pakastani bases???? Well, for the future if we ever have a problem with Syria, Jordan, Iran, or Saudi Arabia, we don't need permission.... We are always going to be there. Hopefully in 20 years we won't need those bases because hopefully our presence there will send the message. 6. This is why more and more I am starting to believe Kobe Bryant. At first I wanted to Kobe go to jail maybe just cuz he is a celeb an we all secretly like to see celebs brought down, but the more I thought about it and what I hear of this chick accusing him... She is a whack job too. Maybe she just wants attention, or to get a boyfriend jealous, or to get an exboyfriend back. You can blame this abducted girl for that..... Cry wolf and see what happens. Now everyone will be skeptical the next time someone really goes missing in WI. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

  8. Anyway here is just a snip of what he said, Dodd said of Byrd, "You would have been a great senator at any moment....you would have been right at the founding of this country, right during the Civil War....I can't think of a single moment in this nation's 220+ year history where you would not have been a valuable asset to this country." Compared to Lott, who was at a birthday party mind you who said of Thurman: If you had been elected, we would have all the problems we are having now. I can't even clearly see the connection to racism directly in Lotts case, but in Dodds case, He says during the Civil War Byrd would have made the right decisions for our nation. I guess that would be to force the south to win and to keep killing and enslaving blacks. I mean Byrd was a member of the KKK afterall. 9. It not only sux for the cops, but I think 100 people from her home town in MI drove out to WI to search in the woods for her. Don't they feel like assholes now. One thing I found interesting was the day they found her, the Mom was on tv and was saying how surprized her daughter was that such a bigdeal was made of this and how surprized she was so many people were looking for her. Right then I was thinking Bullshit! You were abducted for 4 days and all you could think of was the press turnout?????? That seems a bit strang ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  10. I think this is an open and shut case. To quote Mr. Trump "You're Fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The only real clout a union has is its ability to get an entire work force to strike. If only one or a few people stike it is pretty easy to replace them. With that said, even if a whole work force strikes they too can be replaced. Just ask the FAA guys what happened in the 80's..... Anyway, unions suck striking sux... If you or someone you know doesn't like the way they are being treated at a job, then find a new one. 11. I came in here looking to see if anyone had mentioned this one yet. I suspect you won't end up see too much on any of the "Elite News" stations..... Sad really. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  12. Not only is it falifying a police report, it is obstruction of Justice at the same time. I have no sympathy for this girl or her family. It is like the kid who cried wolf..... This girl obviously has NO credibility, and the "assault" on her which she reported in February is most likely false as well. As soon as I heard this story I knew something was a bit strange. The fact the in Feb she was allegedly hit over the head and knocked out... Dragged one block away behind a building, was not robbed or raped or touched in any way.... and she didn't see the person either. Seems like daddy didn't pay attention to her when she grew up :-( Society has no place for people like this other than the looney bin or Jail...... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  13. I too spent most of my time actually getting work done!!!! No seriously... I went through incidents mostly to catch up on some old threads I never finished reading... spent time lurking in Gear and Rig as well as Gen Skydiving :-) Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  14. I only have about 45 jumps... Got my own gear at #29 and have packed about half of those jumps. I have no problem paying a packer.... If I plan on doing several jumps that day sometimes it is worth it to pay someone to do all that physical work for me. Maybe it is because I smoke too much, but packing is a lot of work and it is very tiring if you aren't used to doing it everyday. So, I will usually pack my first jump of the day, then pay for the repack, then maybe pack the next one... I don't think it matters if someone pays for it or packs themselves. I think I am helping someone make an extra buck on the DZ by having them pack it. I have been told that packing chutes on the DZ is one of the most lucrative under the table jobs out there :-) $5/pack 30-40 packs on a big DZ a day, 5 days a week = a lot of free jumps or $750-$1000 per week in a perfect world. More realistically though it is real busy on the weekends and one can plan on making $250- $500 if they only work weekends .... Just what I have heard. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  15. Thanks, If you know of any sites or anything where I can find more info it would be verymuch appreciated
  16. BACK TO THE ORIGIONAL POST: Is the jumper responsible to pay for a main he cuts away and looses even if he didn't pack it, the DZ did. OR should the DZ factor into the rental price the risk of loosing a chute once out of every 2000K jumps or so? Hypothetical situation-> DZ policy is the jumper pays for the repack and a new main if it is lost. Now let's say you are the packer and there is a newbie who has been a reall asshole around the DZ. He has been giving you a hard time ETC... Isn't there the risk that someone packing their main may intentionally shrow a small mal in there or maybe a major one. OBVIOUSLY this would be big time illegal and unethical, but don't you leave that option open (revenge) when you make the renter responsible for buying new equipment? 17. This was the only info I could find, but it has been like this with no update for over a year: http://www.skyventure.com/mapnorthamerica.htm Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  18. (I am assume this goes in Gen Skydiving) A while in talkback there was thread on this, but I can't search there right now.... Anyway. There was talk Skyventure had a tunnel opening in NJ in 2004. I haven't heard sh** about it in over 8 months. Does anyone here know anything about this tunnel? Are they still going to build it? What is its ETA. This would really be great for us up here in the Northeast, and I can't wait to have a tunnel around during these long winter layoffs. 19. Hey all thought I would throw my 2 cents in too... I love DZ, I think it is an awsome place to get a greatdeal of info... It is also a great place to meet people who share an appreciation for the same sport. DZ is great because it offers so many things. Swoop, Vid and Photo, Incidents, Gen Skydiving ETC.... I feel talkback too was a great place to vistit (Especially at work ) Now, I was one of the reasons Talkback closed down, and I am asshole for doing what I did. At the time I felt it needed to be done, but in retrospect I realized it wasn't cool and it was disrespectful. (BTW - SkyMonkeyONE - I am sorry if I offended you.) Well, anyway I talked with HH and I feel better about everything. My purpose wasn't to disrespect him or anyone else. I do hope we get talkback back... I think it was one of the places we just hung out and talked while we were waiting for responses in other more meaningful Forums. Sure there were hot debates, and arguments but hell that is real life. It did start to get out of hand and a bit old I agree and maybe it got away from its intended purpose a bit. Well my suggestion would be to WIPE OUT all the old threads in there and start over. Come up with more specific rules on what we want and don't want in Talkback. The forum was pretty vague as far as what was allowed... so maybe we just want to tighten it up a bit. HH and the Greenies - thanks for giving us a great place to come and share info and conversation Chris
  20. Your right... I swear on the ride to altitude I am saying to myself the whole time "What the Fuck are you doing???" Once on the ground I am ready to go again. Back up in the plane ... "What the fuck am I doing" ETC..... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  21. I always wondered what the policy was myself when I was renting... I guess I was too stupid to ask. Glad nothing happed to the gear. The way I see it though, Skydiving comes with risks of malfunctions...even if everything was checked and the gear was packed perfect. Shit Happens. I don't think it should be the jumpers responsability to pay for a canopy lost if he rented gear from a DZ and the DZ packed it. Eample: I just finished up skydiving school and got DZ approval to jump on my own, but don't yet have my licence. I rent gear, they pack it. Anyway, I have a mal and have to chop. Remember I only have about 14 jumps. I am scared shitless because I had my first chop at #14, my main concern is landing safely and not dying.... I am definately not going to follow my main and land off. Then I get on the ground and I am told I owe them 2K. No way..... I walk right there. I agree with some people here that if you pack it, you are responsible, but i disagree that everyone is responsible no matter what even if the DZ packs it. Unless you can show the jumper did something stupid. I can tell you I would neverr continued skydiving in the beginning if I thought I would have to pay for the overpriced used gear if something happened. Those costs need to be included in the price of the rental. My $0.02 Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  22. I get nervous if I haven't jumped in 4 hours nevermind 4 months. No, but seriously, I am uncurrent right now, just got a repack and I am waiting for the warmer weather. I went to my DZ this weekend to pick up my gear, and as we pulled in my stomach started to churn... and I knew I wasn't even going to be jumping. I worry a lot though ... I really must annoy those around me. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  23. Ahhhhhh SPIN Kalend SPIN..... Don't try to change the subject here. I am not here to discuss who said what who predicted what, I am here to show the facts.... The actual number. I know you people like to spin and change the subject, but here it is. Current unemployment levels in the USA are below the 30yr average...PERIOD. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

  25. If you really think that engineers are now working for minimum wage at walmart you are crazy..... No, the fact is that based on the Markets during the run up to the bubble burst people were simply over paid. Also in the mid 90 there were IT people making unbelievable money simply because the demand for IT jobs was so high, and there were not many skilled IT proffessionals. Again the salaries decreased because people and companies lost a shit load of money when the economy tanked.... Now, I find it more likely that the "Proffessionals" such as your engineers and doctors are the ones collecting the unemployment not the ones working at McDonalds.
