funny shit! i get back from my first visit to the chiropractor for my neck and what should be posted!! I had a whiplash injury about 2 years ago from a hard opening skydiving - ever since about once a month i turn my head and crack! it spasms and tightens up and i spend the next week with pain in my neck shoulder and back! i went to the chiropractor today for my first consultation and i have damaged the bones and joints in my neck - apparently with about 8 visits in the next month or so i should be back to 100% again! - why i have been putting up with this for 2 years i will never know! It cant hurt can it?

To me I dont think you can compare the two really. Its like comparing paragliding / BASE / Skydiving / or any other parachuting activity - some things you do in each that are not compatable / relevant to the others. Basics are they all use a parachute of one way or another but generally and to the core they are all different beasts. As people had previously stated I would never take a skydive rig off any BASE jump - 200ft - 20,000ft (I wish!) just because in some jumps the alititude you participate crosses both skydiving / BASE does not mean it becomes a skydive environment. Next time you play golf go use a hockey stick - same sort of ball sport - (hitting a small ball with a stick like thing) but in essence 2 completly different beasts............. My 0.02 whislt bored shitless at work hoping the wind will die down!! fucking UK!!! Be safe always PS) I feel safer jumping my BASE rig than my skydiving rig!!

I use a range of tools to find out heights and normally try and use several to confirm what the others are telling me. 1) Alti Watch – obviously only used on top of the object 2) Range Finder – just point and press and use Pythagoras theorem to calculate the height 3) Sectional maps (pilot maps) 4) Web sites – there are a few really decent websites for all man made structures and their heights (buildings, spans, dams, towers), also there are some skyscraper sites for world Buildings and also some communication companies have a list of all there A’s and the heights. 5) Other websites – doing a search for certain objects may find you information on that object from planning disputes, court cases, tourist info etc 6) Climbing guides – except they normally give the height of “the climb” rather the vertical height. There are so many resources out there for jumpers to find new objects / research known objects that generally you are very confident of your calculations / findings. 0-1 second delay hand held – I think that’s a personal thing some will say 200 (or sub200) some will say 300………….. nothing is safe!! Further to other threads - if I were to move my tailgate position more toward the line attachment point - are there an issues / problems / thoughts I should be aware about before asking my non-BASE jumper rigger to make the changes? What problems could be caused by moving the manufaturers postion........... I suppose I should actually ask the manufacturer as well! hehehe Laterzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Michael PS) Any UK jumpers got a rigger that would do work with a little more knowledge about BASE than my present rigger? Please email me if you can help! michael.mchale@berkeleygroup dot co dot uk thanks!

Funny you should say that - a friend of mine remarked only a couple of days ago that my tailgate looked like it was positioned quite low............ I have noticed an area that is having a growing amount of partial friction against it...... I do have a few holes caused by such rushed "get the fuck outta here oops I gotta a snag" but I have had 2 x riggers and 4 other people look at the damage and all are in agreement that they are line burns. I will try and get a photo before I next pack (I blew the pack job open last night on a rather nice 215ft freefall!!! ) I will check out other tailgate positions and compare with mine and perhaps talk with J & M @ Vertigo. Many Thanks for your VERY helpful thoughts Tom!

Dagger 266 and no Not that I have found but have not inspected THAT close. One fold Wizard Nope nothing else - just a standard dagger.

I have noticed on my canopy I have line burns on one stabiliser on one side only. If you look from the top of a laid out pack job before folding you have (lets call them) tail, small stabiliser, stabiliser1, stabiliser2, stabiliser3, nose. The line burns have appeared on the right hand side of the canopy on stabaliser1. It seems this area of the canopy is getting a bit of a whipping on opening and whilst packing I cant really make out what is causing this. Any views / experiences? I will try and get a picture done of them after I blow this current pack job open!! Thanks for any help............ Michael

DZ.commers - what a bunch of hypocrites! I just read a post from one of your "crew" and it says basically what I had said and got flamed for (and yes it was in the same thread!!) - did he get the pack dogs on him? nah! course not! He is one of you! - take a check of yourselves.

Thanks to a certain person PMing me with some constructive thoughts on the protocol of posting in these forums!!! its all a learning curve!!! Cheers M! CYA!!!

I recently posted a post with my general view of journalists. I seemed to have offended someone........... My apologies for offending this person - but I still stand by my view that generally journalists are more geared to selling a story than reporting the cold hard truth. Was I really that out of order in stating this??? - Would like the opinion of other people on journalists and whether my comments truely deserved the "backlash" from one person - So maybe I do have a negative view of journalists - but I think generally people do think this???? but maybe they dont??!?!?! Be safe always.....................
