  1. i think you are wrong, last time i checked it was almost impossible for someone to get hold of BASE gear as opposed to buying skydiving gear - I myself have refused to sell gear to someone I felt should not have it. No there are no rules or regulations in BASE, but there is a sense of self regulation and hopefully not stopping people doing what they want but also stopping people do things to hurt themselves or die............ the fact there is no regulations, is a reason why people get upset of this sort of advert, as we are all self policing and this goes against what alot of us beleive.............. I have recently had a discussion with a skydiver friend who said he thought BASE jumpers were more clique mentality than skydivers - but he agreed that we have to be like this sometimes as we have no rules or regs and the skydiver governing bodies carry out this function of restrictions by their rules............ unfortunaltly having no set rules, and just a "known and understood set of ethics" then when something like this goes against these "natural thinking" rules we all have, then we question it - and thats all is happening here, we are all questioning it and giving our own non regulated, self policing thoughts about it................. skydivers have a rule book to refer to to say "its wrong to do that" - we just have personal thought and ethics............... I see your a Birdman instructor - if i said I could teach someone to Birdman with 5 birdman jumps would you say i was wrong in doing so? Birdman coaching is still quite inconsistant in rules across DZ's and countries, but if i said i could take a 200 jump skydiver to my friend with a plane and the fact I have (which i dont) 5 birdman jumps and teach him birdman - would you perhaps think i was doing something wrong? fuck man - i have WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much time on my hands!! injury sucks!!!!
  2. Nothing, people have been opening DZs for a long time and will continue to do so just like people will hurl themselves off of low objects both legally and illegally in the dark of night. So again, what is this guy doing that is so wrong? my point is that I may skydive (or used too sorry) but I certainly dont have the experience to go and hurl some students out............ I also BASE jump, but again I dont have the experience (or the wish) to go hurl anyone off an object.......... (and i have been asked) The point i was making is that if i with 500 skydives decided to hurl some people out of a plane for a quick cheap way to skydive - how would you react? you would probably say "I was not qualified to do such a thing - whereas I could actually argue that I have to means and enough knowledge to actually do it..................
  3. I have quite a few skydives, I also have a friend with a plane. What would you say to me, if i started offering people to skydive? I mean I have some knowledge and also the equipment to do so, but if I had advertised this on the Skydive forums what do you think the response would be from skydivers? So why such a surprise when something like this causes BASE jumpers to react to it?

    Thanks

Hey dude! There I was sitting in my physio session trying to loosen up my ligaments and getting frustrated in the lack of movement and wastage I have with my leg, and I receive an SMS.......... after the session I look at the message and its Faber asking me to telephone GC. I get out and whilst waiting for my cab I ring Faber, he is now at the exit after sms'ing me at 180ft, we go through the procedure he needs and the location he is should anything go wrong.......... after all that he says "hold on, you wanna hear the jump" - yeah man why not! As clear as day on the cell phones I hear him sit on the exit, let out a deep breath and hear his count, fuck man I could even hear his push off! To hear the acceleration of the air put a smile on my face, I hear a "yeeeeehaa" in freefall then a "hard opening" - i hear some huffs and puffs and some straining, and after a reasonable canopy flight he tells me the huffs and puffs are him taking avoiding action!! heheheheh I get a cab home, and an hour or so later I get another call - Faber at the exit again! (this time its HIS phone bill!!!) I listen to another jump, much better this time as he says "hard on heading opening" after I again listen to the sweet sound of transition from the void to the air.............. Have to say Faber, thanks for the tandem jumps - was cool listening to a jump whislt I am laid up still pissed off knowing I aint gonna be jumping until sometime next year!! Thanks mate, you made me smile!
  5. hey Andrea! hope all is cool with you! sorry still have not got hold of that video - but T is still moving around various relations for his rehab and has not returned home yet - I still have not got hold of my rig from him after 3 months! He is doing ok, but I guess with both legs fucked up it must be driving him mad! Nice to see ya back writting up - if your on MSN drop me a line (sms / email) and give me something to do during the day too! remember I am still in rehab but at least with one good leg!! Be cool Bro! Michael PS) I hooked up that guy with some numbers of people who will be glad to take him around on his visit (sorry I could not), just in case you did not know!!
  6. sorry, but after all that has gone before it really does sound like arrogance - its the arrogance of doing something, getting caught and told off - making apologies and then thinking you get away with it going and doing something similar again. I wonder Tom, how you would have reacted should have this been say me doing this? or someone else not so "cool" - I know the rules, I know the problems recently occuring, but I go and do something like this - I would have been strung up by everyone including you I would expect. Time and time again I see that because of someones reputation and rating on the BASE cool list they get away with things and are given more slack then the rest of us "uncool" group. One of the reasons I hated the skydiving environment is the clique mentallity and the allowance of the "cool people" to get away with more than the rest of us............ This seems to happen in the field and on the boards. Everyone is so quick to blaze the Cat Felix for what he does as apparently is way down in the cool list - but I dont see Felix showing no respect to your legal span out there or in fact any thing like the disrespect that is happening out there at the moment.............Felix may have other short comings and issues which I dont agree with either - but what i feel is that the flaming is a little inconsistant.................. The reason this has annoyed me is that I am sat here recovering from an injury where I was on an object with a shattered leg and ankle and after having my foot on the wrong way round and replaced in the field, having my friends take out metal fencing and replace it to get me out of the landing area and then drive 70 miles to a hospital away from the object so not to draw attention to it and blaze it - all this time risking loosing my foot due to my injury......... and then I read about such a disregard to a legal object that puts in at risk............ so who exactly does have the most respect for the sport? but then again, being a member of the uncool BASE list my thoughts will always count for shit.........
  7. Hey, Good for you. I can appreciate a man who makes a decision and stands by it. Not taking this personally at all. I would not think twice about recommending Blinc it to BASE jumpers first. I thought I would point out however that after this post you logged in on the 15th, 19, 20, 23 and as recently as yesterday on the 26th... is posting and logging on not seen as different though? Although BLiNC is better suited to BASE discussion than DZ - (just look at the replies to threads - alot are from skydivers who dont even BASE), there is still posts from people respected in BASE here so its still worth logging on to read them............ I get your point he may have been a little unsure of his true intentions at the time of posting, but I have to admit his point makes sense............... why discuss things here that dont suit the forum focus (skydivers wanting to BASE) when there is a prime suited forum else where to do so? - do you want a bigger crowd to read what your saying?? (not you sangrio) - or do you want the relevant crowd to read what your saying? again, too much time on my hands!! Dont take BASE to the skydivers, let the skydivers come to BASE...................
  8. That's my thought as well! At 8 jumps its very doubtful that a jumper has the experience and skill to know truely whats going on and how to fly thier canopy. There are some rare execptions, obviously, like a very experienced pilot, hanglider, paraglider, etc. However, a FJC will give you the information you need to know how to fly your canopy safely to the ground. I'm wondering if the student had looked at the winds and actually figured out the landing pattern for the winds of the day. My students (and all the other students at my DZ) fill out a flight planner before each jump. There's a lot of good information done, such as figuring out the spot, etc, but the biggest key is the DZ photo on the back. With the winds the student actually draws out what the intended landing pattern will be. This gives the student a good idea of what their doing and what they can expect. This is done with the knowledge that on average the student canopies we use travel roughly 520ft across the ground for every 300ft in altitude in no wind/perfect conditions. The ground winds are figured into this (as well as the winds at 3k for their "holding pattern" before 1000ft) to achieve the correct distances and land marks for flying a good pattern to land them safely in the main landing area (and the peas). The instructor working the radio for the low jump number students has the flight planner in hand while working the radio. That way the instructor has a pretty good idea of what the student intends to do (obviously students can be very surprising sometimes in this regard). So far so good, the only problems we've had have been students brain locking and going the wrong way, turning left on right turn commands and a jump where the ground winds changed nearly 180deg while on jumprun (everyone was out of the plane right before the plane was reached on the radio to warn). Our students are learning their canopy control faster and how to spot more efficiently then I've seen before and/or any where else. that sounds like a pretty good way to get students to think about canopy control and patterns, i have never seen this type of thing before............ is this a common thing in the US? (getting students to plan approaches on DZ plans each day?) Thats pretty cool............
  9. you wanna try the film "nightwatch" - its a danish low budget flick - was cool and very creepy.... Also some of the new Asian movies have a nice scare to them..........

    Champagne!

    1) its fucking horrible and too expensive 2) I'd rather drink baby cham 3) I have only tried Bolly or M&C and they still taste like crap and give a stinking head ache! You cant beat a nice decent red wine or Belgium Beer............
  11. So which one was it? were you learning? or do you know?............ second, why not discuss what happened with the instructor to find out what happened? just a thought...............
  12. from what I could see the following people were involved in the skydiving aspect of the stunt: Swooper: Tim Carter (VX 69 - i think he flies - someone may like to correct this!!!) Camera: Andy Ford Pilot: Catherine Glinister (skydiver) Groundcrew: Mike Perra (sp?) (skydiver) EvilIvan would be able to build on anyone else involved as he shares a flat with Tim, and as far as I know Tim does not come on the forums.....
  13. i also have to say I was quite disturbed by the movie - i did not know if it was me getting old or not! watch it alone at night with the lights off............ made my imagination race!
  14. plane flown by Rich O's GF................ nice work tim

    Just curious

http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/index.php? Is the main resource (as mentioned before) - there are also lots of other boards and sites that are country specific..................
  16. what would you have felt if you got injured?
  17. its funny I was going to post something similar to this............ I have heard of people giving up for the following reasons: 1) Gained a BASE number 2) Achieved certain goals 3) Injury 4) Children 5) Work Commitments 6) Just calling it a day before getting hurt. Since my injury people have questioned whether I am going to jump again (especially work and family) and when I tell them that I plan to jump again they cant really understand it. I heard one jumper (who is close to this board) say once "if this injury makes me give up this sport then I did not really understand what I was getting into in the first place" - that to me says it all. I have never had goals except one, to BASE jump - I achieved that goal from my first jump, 2 years on I cant see any reason for me to give up - but I know this may change one day.......until then I will keep on going! (well when i recover that is!! hehe) I would be interested in why people have given up, as I know about half and half of people that one half I cant see give up and the other half that maybe one day they will move on................... Interesting post Neil..........
  18. MILF number? Midget Iranian Lesbian Fruitbat now I would love to see a Iranian Midget Lesbian Fruitbat............ ah..... i think my pain killers are kicking in now! off to bed i go!!

  20. not that I will be jumping, but there is a chance I may pop in to visit....................... sunshine tour coach trip for me to catch up with some people........ but that depends on my friend turning up and giving me a lift as i still cant drive! So if you see a guy on crutches hobbling around........ ..........
  21. I have a rotty, just wondered if anyone also with these soft dogs gets negative reactions from other people? I have been out walking my rotty and even though he was on a lead, someone with an alsation started saying how it was wrong I should have such a dog without a muzzle. I have also had people try and avoid me whilst walking him and my GF has also had people have a go at her and reduce her to tears with the way she has been treated by other dog walkers just because we have a rotty................ I have been on a rotty forum (i know sort of sad!!) but it seems this is quite a common thing................ its a shame they seem to have a bad rep - as every one I have met are soft as shit!!!
