  1. Ding! Ding! Ding! "Know your gear seminar" eh? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  2. http://www.bls.gov Check here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  3. Go ahead and PM me. I have lots of posters from different manufacturers that no longer fit in my store. You may want to contacto other gear dealers as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  4. Can you PM me about that rig? Congrats! Now go up there and kick some boootay! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  5. Just this week, I've had a customer come to me and say that his rigger (at a neighboring dz) told him that his new rig could "kill him". The rigger does not like the reserve tray design. This was a brand new very popular rig. But it happened to be a rig that rigger does not distribute. Students and new jumpers are very impressionable. Sid, I have to admit that I have used and abused your web site for information about gear and gear maintenance. Please keep up the good work. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! 6. Does it still work? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  7. Edit: It may be difficult for a student at some smaller DZs to find a second opinion. But then again at large DZs there may too many conflicting opinions. Perhaps there is a instructional gap here that can be filled. Hmmmm. Off to the drafting board. Thanks all! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  8. .....qualified to give gear advise? The general consensus on DZ.com is for people to advise new jumpers to "Ask your instructors for gear advise." To an extent I agree with this. But not fully. I try really hard to be impartial, so I would like to hear feedback from others as well. As a gear deal AND an AFF-I, I hear a lot of stuff that makes me cringe. A 125lb girl who's instructor advised her to get a 135 main parachute. She was trained on 230s and has never jumped anything smaller than a 190. She has 25 jumps. This is quite common. Then there is the typical canopy or manufacturing bashing that instructors carry over from 10 years ago when they were a young jumper. There are many choices that are appropriate as a first canopy, but when an instructor is partial to one brand, they say things that limit the choices for a new jumper. Or they forget what it's like to be a new jumper and fail to realize the learning curve that needs to take place. Some instructors are very gear aware and give great advise. But not all of them. An instructor doesn't necessarily devote their time to staying informed on the service bulletins, jumper feedback on beginner canopies, new canopy choices, fair market value, etc. I think the instructor is key to indicate the size of parachutes that a jumper was trained on, and how they handled those canopies. I feel that information is extrememly valuable. So let me know what you all think. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  9. They have a customer service in Florida. www.101skydive.com Just be honest. Abuse of the old riser story is why they discontinued free replacements in the first place. Most repairs are about $35.00. In this case, I'm not sure what they will do. Besides laugh I mean. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  10. You're electric! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  11. Oh cool! A thread that I can vent in! I sell used gear in my store. I may be full of myself, but I consider Gravity Gear a well estabilshed gear store. I usually take a picture of the main or ask the seller for a photo. I always take a picture of the rig. But the uninflated canopy laid out on the floor does it no justice. Well, then I'll pack it all up and display it in the store. Online questions are so bizzare and varried that just when you think you've got them all covered someone comes up with something else. Can you take a picture of the line attachment points? Um okay. I've inspected them already. They still want a picture. And there is nothing more I love than unpacking and packing gear that I'm not going to jump. If it was just one customer with one question I wouldn't bitch, but..... Okay. I'm done. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  12. Turbo Tax is your friend. And you can PM me if you have any specific questions. What kind of records do you keep? Again. Just PM me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  13. I always wear flip flops too. But when I lived in Eloy and showered in the public shower every day, it seems like I kept getting funky feet. And, I shit you not, peeing saved my feet! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  14. _______________________________________ Madonna's weird! Chuck Madonna is also right! It kills fungus that can cause athletes foot. I always pee in public showers after hearing that from Dr. Dean O'Dell and it put an end to athletes foot for me. I'm a believer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  15. In my experience reselling gear, all black rigs are actually LESS desirable than those with some colors. But colors that clash, fade or are solid pink, tend to sit on the shelf quite a bit longer. Colors that fade are Neon Yellow, Neon Green, Neon Orange, Neon Pink....well, you get the idea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  16. Jason, The stiff bit goes into the "mud flap". If you have any questions, just call me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  17. First off... Thank you Bob. Second... John, if you can come out to Byron we have a selection of goggles and helmets, etc to try on . We are about an hour and fifteen from San Francisco. We can go over pros and cons and find out what best fits you. I'm here Wed - Sun 10am - Sunset. PM me if you want to meet somewhere in the city, we'll be there next tuesday... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  18. One of our local skydivers name their boy Harry Peter. Named after the two grandpas. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  19. Grue, I could work that design for you and possibly put some symbolic elements in there. An obvious one would be in the center and make that into a VERY SUBTLE closing pin. Not just a big "Hi, I'm another damned closing pin." Lemme know. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  20. Does anybody, at anytime, in any publication, remember anything about reaching back and grabbing bridle as part of the EP's for a PC in tow? No. But I have done it three times myself. I used to jump a bungee.... and once on borrowed gear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  21. I have ordered several Triathalons this month. They are quite a bit different than the old Triathalons. The openings are smooth. Very slow actually. Flare is good. Ends are tapered, so it doesn't feel like you have to over-steer like the old ones did. They are still a 7-cell, so the glide is not as good as a 9-cell. But that is good if you want to sink it into a tight landing area. You'll just have to learn to judge your glide ration. IMHO, it's a steel to get a brand new canopy for that price. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  22. Hmmm. There are as many different kind of parenting skills as there are parents. I think each child should be looked upon as an individual. My daughter is an only child. Her family responsibilites will likely be limited. We'll see what her decision making skills and maturity levels are like at 15 and base our decisions on that when the time comes. But I know that my sister (oldest of 6 kids) used to change our diapers, drive us to school, fix us dinner, etc, etc, etc. And to be honest, I prefered her driving as a 16 year old over my Mom. She grew up with a lot of family responsibility and she took it seriously. So did my brother.... #2. At 16 I used to take my nieces and nephews to church in my car all of the time. I am a very conservative Mom IMHO, but I really think you have to look at each child as an idividual before you make a blanket statement. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
  23. I just want to point out that the oldest child in a family of 7 has a much higher maturity level than the youngest child in a family of 7 or than a 15 year old only child. The oldest child in a big family lives with grown up responsibilities every day, morning to night. I'm not saying that I advocate her driving with just a permit and kids in the car. But six months later, she would have been driving legally with her siblings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
