I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but how is it known that they tried to hold on? Seriously. Because one is on video, and the other was being assisted by another skydiver. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

The best solution is prevention. With the B-12 snaps, make sure you give them a good test before you put your gear on. Snap it open and closed to ensure that they don't stick open. Prior to exiting the aircraft, ALWAYS check all three of your handles and all three of your straps. Main, Cut Away, Reserve. Chest strap routing, Right leg, Left leg. This should be a done prior to boarding and prior to exit on every single skydive. Because yes, if your leg strap comes on done, you can fall out of your harness on opening. Holding on with your hands is futile, even if it makes you feel better to do so. I know of one case of an undone chest strap resulting in the jumper falling out of her harness. I also know of undone leg straps resulting in the jumper falling out. In both cases, of course the jumpers tried to hold on. It is simply not possible. Gear maintenance. Gear checks. Don't get lazy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
GravityGirl replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
No worries. >>Do you wear perscription lenses? Wiley X is one of the few companies that can prescribe frames with 8 base curvatures. Now flat prescription frames are a thing of the past. Simply select the frame you want filled with your prescription and we will do the rest. Wiley X uses only shatterproof polycarbonate which is the most impact resistant lens material there is. With over 17 different lens options to choose from you can create the perfect frame for you and you alone. All Wiley X Eyewear will accept prescription lenses with the exception of the following models: B-2, CQC, FL-1, FL-2, JP-4, P-36, PT-1, Saber. Gravity Gear! -

Adidas goggles suitable for skydiving ?
GravityGirl replied to RandomLemming's topic in Gear and Rigging
The Wiley X are made of a plastic composite. They are very rugged. My nephew is special ops and wore them in Iraq. He said they were good. They have a good warranty also. From their web site: "Designed for jump missions, close-quarter combat, urban warfare or just looking good in your downtime." Our local ParaRescue Team also uses them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
In my opinion.... ....if it is standard to use the radio, we'll build up a dependancy on them. If the radio fails or is hard to hear, the student will just sit there waiting for a radio command. I would rather train them for the real world situtation. Most jumpers don't jump with them on fun jumps. So coming off student status will be awkward. The new skydiver will be used to verbal communication in freefall. They'll be hit with so many new variables at once. Maybe I'm just old school. We have an "In Air" system. My husband uses it for coach jumps. I like them for that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Nike also makes a pair of wrap around goggles/sunglases for perscription. Pretty spendy, but quite nice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
Jeffery, When you go to the dz or a boogie, do you like checkin' out the hotties? A little skydiving, a little beer at the end of the day, a little flirtation? Now imagine you are gay and jumping with all straight people. Who are you going to flirt with? Who are you going to check out. This boogie gives gay skydivers the opportunity to skydive, party and check out as many asses as their little hearts desire. They can meet other men and women who share not only one major thing in common, but two. What is not to understand? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Keep in mind that once you decide you are not going to make the LZ, your best landing area may be behind you. Look straight down and check for hazards. Look between your current position and the LZ for any potential hazards. If it's clear, fly that clear path as far back as possible. If it's littered with fences, powerlines, tree lines, buildings, etc, then look for a big clear landing area. Stay upwind of so you can use the wind to your advantage to put you in that desireable spot. If it's quite windy, don't put your back to the wind. Crab yourself into position. There are loads of variables, so this is a good conversation to have in person at the DZ. The biggest nugget I can offer is to remember that the cleanest landing spot may be behind you. Don't get fixated on "maybe" making it back. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

These seem to be working for our perscription customers so far: http://www.iseattlecommerce.com/merchant/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GG&Category_Code=Wiley+X Wiley X SG1. In my opinion, snowboard goggles are not low profile enough for skdiving. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -

We carry Wiley-X goggles for this purpose. THere are cheaper frames, but the tend to loose the foam or strap. If you are investing in a perscription lenses, it makes sense to get good solid frames. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

A bear walks into a bar in Billings, Montana and sits down. He bangs on the bar with his paw and demands a beer. The bartender approaches and says, "We don't serve beer to bears in bars in Billings " The bear, becoming angry, demands again that he be served a beer. The bartender tells him again, more forcefully, "We don't serve beer to belligerent bears in bars in Billings." The bear, very angry now, says, "If you don't serve me a beer, I'm going to eat that lady sitting at the end of the bar." The bartender says, "Sorry, we don'! t serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings" The bear goes to the end of the bar, and, as promised, eats the woman. He comes back to his seat and again demands a beer. The bartender states, "Sorry, but we especially don't serve beer to belligerent, bully bears in bars in Billings who are on drugs." The bear looks at him quizzically and says, "I'm not on drugs." The bartender says, "You are now. That was a barbitchyouate." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Deliberately inducing instability in an AFF student
GravityGirl replied to Andy9o8's topic in Instructors
Instability is what level 6 is all about. WTF would you burble a student on Level 4? That doesn't instill confidence that just freaks the student out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
