Seems like they didn't pray hard enough. Not true. They just didn't understand the mind of God.

How long did it take at the polling place
headoverheels replied to headoverheels's topic in Speakers Corner
I changed my mailing address about 4 weeks ago, when I realized that election materials would not be forwarded to my temporary address. They changed me away from mail-in, and I didn't have time to change that. They also registered me at my temporary mailing address (big house remodel), so I didn't get to vote on measures in my own town. I'd had absentee ballots for years, but never filled any out in time to mail -- I dropped them at a polling place on election days. -
How long did it take at the polling place

From the time you arrive at whatever line, until you got to the voting booth, how long? For me, it was under a minute, no line. Here in CA, at least locally, we have a lot of polling places; over 500 in my county alone. I voted at a Muslim meeting hall. -
The article doesn't say that they are illegal, just not citizens. Obviously illegal to vote in that case too. In any case, that isn't "the real issue." Maybe another "real issue."

This American Life -- losing friends over politics.
headoverheels replied to headoverheels's topic in Speakers Corner
I went skiing with one of my best friends a couple of years ago, one of many trips to his house on the slopes in CO. Every evening he would be watching Hannity and Beck, and spewing rw vitriol. He was quite rabidly obsessed. The following year, we had him out to ski at my wife's place in Tahoe. Before he came, I had the cable company change us to basic only to eliminate those guys. Much more peaceful. -
I doubt that you'll get Romney to buy us all a beer.

That was only two things, not three.

I usually got one, until I had a reaction two years ago. Facial edema, lasted a few days.

This American Life -- losing friends over politics.

An interesting show this week on This American Life, about ill will between friends over politics. I'm listening to it while at work running some simulations (electronics). http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/478/red-state-blue-state -
You are correct, he will not.

Was that because they were running against other black folk?

Anvil does raise a valid point regarding fraudulent "donation" sites. I have wondered whether some political ads aren't really giving money to the other side.

Cost of entry is pretty low. I find this a curious item though. I wonder what Bush is speaking on. Maybe related to the seminar, or maybe just an interesting keynote speech. I was attending a technical meeting on semiconductor materials ~35 years ago, and Edward Teller was our lunchtime speaker. No mention was made of nuclear anything -- he talked about UFOs.

What makes you think that this was some kind of political art? Looks like plants/trees becoming coal then coming back around to be used as fuel (as it was).

Sounds good, but what about the Electoral and popular splitting?

I don't care for it, but the kids love Cat McNuggets. (somehow, pussy nuggets doesn't sound so appetizing)

Ignore that bit, focus on the 'blacks vote 90% democrat anyway' bit. How does that gel with your assertion that blacks are overwhelmingly voting for Obama primarily because he's black? Wasnt my assertion So what did you mean by this: "96 to 4 and you remain determined to argue the point - Gotta love it"? Did that not mean that you disagreed with DanG's argument? Let's give you a chance to clear up what you actually do think: Do you think that blacks are overwhelmingly voting for Obama primarily because he's black? All of them? NO for the most part? based on what I have heard and seen? yes So if it had come down to Obama vs. Hermain Cain, how many blacks would have voted for the half-white guy? My guess is that about 88-92% would.

If it were by the popular vote this time, then Sandy could flip the result because of lower turn out in those blue states (and lower mail-in for those that do that). Sandy isn't as likely to flip the Electoral votes for those states as it is to just decrease total votes.

Both of those guys are too obese to be considered fat. Neither is a fool. Limbaugh just knows how to exploit ditto heads. He's an entertainer, and he knows his audience very very well. I don't agree in total with Christie, but I do agree with how he handles people asking off-topic questions in his public meetings (slam!). He is a Red guy in a Blue state, and does well to be seen cooperating, especially when his constituents need help.

I have XP and 98 (got some software on that one that costs $20k to upgrade to the newer version).

You never jumped a tandem as a student, will you do it for free now?
headoverheels replied to Maksimsf's topic in The Bonfire
I did a tandem for a friend who was getting qualified on another brand of equipment. He already had quite a few on whatever other type. -
Don't worry, that retired colonel will more than make it up with Romney's middle class tax increase -- oops, I guess he gets screwed there too. How old is that retired colonel with a family (which usually implies dependent children)? Maybe he shouldn't be able to get retirement benefits at all until he hits 62, or full benefits until 66,67 whatever. If he has his years in, he should definitely get retirement benefits -- but only after the age that social security kicks in. He shouldn't have to work another 10 years, but he shouldn't collect in the meanwhile.
